Q:

You guys making it tuff.

I have had my heart set on a .22 Talon SS for a month now. I am saving some cash for it and plan on buying a hand pump & scope for it too. My main reason for buying it was because it was quiet and still a hard hitting rifle. I want to take it squirrel hunting this fall. My current Ruger 10/22 works just fine but I really like the aspect of a quiet rifle in the woods as well as plinking in the back yard.

Now this is what you guys did to me since I found this website. I have discovered that you can buy an aftermarket shroud for the Condor to quite it down considerably. Will it make a standard .22 Condor as quiet as a .22 Talon SS? If so, I might be better off buying the Condor for the added power and range with heavy pellets. I have read that the stock condor is as loud as any rimfire .22 which pushed me to the Talon SS. Thanks for any input.

This is a great website by the way and I can’t stop reading all the posts.

If you go for .25 and want to shoot really heavy slugs for maximum power, DO NOT go with a short barrel. The heavier the slug, the longer the barrel it needs to get up to speed.

quote knifemaker:

True That! One alternative is to contact Tony at Talon Tunes and order a Condor with a, say 18″to 21″ barrel. This will keep the oal down when shrouded! I’m using a 18″ in .22 and Love-it!

Does the shorter barrel decrease the velocity a bit? Do you just correct for this by adjusting the power dial on the side of the gun?

Hey Fishin Rod, what the hell are you doing up at 1 in the morning? I just got home from the local pub.

Saw your post in the shroud section asking for a video. Got my Condor apart right now and can’t post a vid of it. I have a 22 Condor, Talon valve, home made moderator. It shoots 22 Kodiaks at 950 fps. All I hear is the trigger/hammer and tank ping. Standing about 10 feet away, I don’t hear it fireing.

I have been working alot of overtime at work. I worked from Tuesday morning at 0800hrs to Saturday morning at 0800hrs = 96 hours. Then I had one day off (Saturday) with my family before going back to work for 72 more hours. I wanted to spend time with my family all day. So after they went to bed, I went out in the shop and made a customer the shroud.

I bought a Condor about a month ago. I bought the GTBJ shroud.
I bought a Talon SS this week and shot them side by side sunday. I think the condor is quieter. I did get one of those 1145 fps shots trying a lighter pellet in the basement. I was on the border of a rifle crack I guess , it was loud the wife heard it outside. LOL get the Condor and the shroud and do not look back. I got the Talon SS because I wanted somethiong shorter to back pack in. I really like the condor alot.

Thanks guys. I do have a 80cuft scuba tank in the basement from my days of diving years ago. My local dive shop is over an hour away so I will check out the local fire house for refills. I did not know they filled air tanks.

Thanks.
Mike

Our fire house will fill air bottles for free also (your tax dollars at work).

Another option, if you are lazy like me, is to get a used SCBA tank and hose assembly from Joe’s air tanks. The used SCBA tank and fittings cost about the same as a hand pump. I get about 30 fills before I need a refill on the SCBA.

My local fire house will fill it for free to 4500 psi. The chief says that it is good public relations.

Before you buy the tank, check to see if your local fire house will fill it for ya.

excellent choices mike, and yes the A/F pumps wouldn’t even make a good anchor, get your self a hill or an fx and you’ll be set.
just send me a p/m when your ready, and we’ll get you started on your accessorizing of that sweet thing 😉

You’re right, Air Force Hand Pumps are no good.

I am defiantly getting the .22 Condor now after all the reading. The WOK butt plate and the Blue Jay shroud will be the first accessories I will buy at the same time. I’ll put one of my extra Swift 3×9 rifle scopes on it for now and buy a nice scope later this year after I get a chance to shoot it.

I have read that the Air Force Hand Pumps are no good. Is this still true? I have no problem buying the Hill pump that you guys seem to recommend.

Hopefully in about a month I’ll place the order for everything. Since I am in Michigan and the economy the way it is, I force myself to save up the cash first and avoid the credit card at all costs.

WELCOME TO THE FORUMS!

What I’m relizing is that a talon .22 leads to a .22 condor. A .22 condor leads to a .25 condor. A .25 condor leads to a big/large bore cal.

Save money and go big from the start. Converting costs more money.

Trouble is, once you pick it up—-You never want to put it down again! 😀

Thanks for all the info. I can see there seems to be unlimited mods and addons for the Air Force rifles. I think I will get the .22 condor and add a shroud to quiet it down a bit. I sure can’t wait to get one.

Now that iI think about it, You could always donate it to your buddy Knivemaker! 😯 😉 😀
