Q:

You will either love this or hate it, 5 min. 10 yrd. trap

The pellet trap in behind was purchased for $45.00 and is just not possible to use indoors with out making a terrible mess and it ricochets lead fragments everywhere. I am just chronying in the shop so here is my 5 minute solution that works fabulous, no mess, no lead spraying, no targets to change, quiet, easy lead recovery, I just cannot find an issue with it other than the obvious. It even sounds cool, kind of a woooop instead of a bang clang and then lead hitting the walls, I am seriously over the old one. I am throwing the old one out side for 50 yard targert and just putting a wood safety behind this totally tubular tube job. ๐Ÿ˜€ How does the saying go…..All that is complicated is not good,….and all that is good need not be complicated….

Ok, now everyone can give me hell over safety issues !! ๐Ÿ˜€

Haha I love it! The KISS method!

Connect some rubber hose to the end with a curve and run it into the top of a five gallon plastic bucket with a hole in the lid. Dust issue solved. ๐Ÿ˜‰

My thoughts exactly. D รณh … ๐Ÿ˜ฏ

How do you keep the mulch in the boxes after you shoot the front out. ???

Using the 5 gal. buckets that Lowes and Hl Depot sells, and filled with the mulch, I just buy the lids and change them out when they get too bad. I stuff the empty mulch bag under the lid, against the mulch and put the lid in place. They have replacement lids CHEAP!!!
It will stop the .257 Talon/Dor just fine. And the bullets look almost like they could be shot again. I simply reclaim the lead, and cast more bullets! ๐Ÿ˜‰ ๐Ÿ˜€
The Mulch is in the garden supply area.

Nice setup Ride but: instead of the big red lips, I really thought that you would use one of HOOTs soiled red latex Depends shorts and use the brown spot for an aim point!

Ride, You are REALLY slipping! ๐Ÿ˜†

Interesting…

I’ll bet after a while the back of that sucker starts to pooch out from the impacts.

I think you may have something there Ride. Just one or two recommendations, will make it a perfect lunch time break. Rotate the Labia 45 degrees, and get yourself a milk crate, perhaps a Berry White CD. Sorry you teed it up.

Too funny, I love the Berry White CD line !!!!! , ya I was trying to draw comments, pertty cheap fun ….

All you guys and your rubber mulch targets, let me ask you this, if you put your ear up to your trap real close, can YOU ! hear a faint voice saying……..get ready for it……….30 pellets me love you long time !!! I rest my case on pellet trap design. And you all thought it was only good for chrony testing in the same hole every shot …Ha ! multipurpose I say. Where is Hoot and Serville tonight with such low hanging fruit !!

Hopefully I’m going to finish the final drawings on my new silent trap with rubber mulch this week. I want to make this very maintenance free. The only thing one would need to do is put some new mulch in when it gets too heavy with pellets. I’m wondering if 10 inches of packed mulch is enough to stop 70fpe.

My five gallon bucket isn’t much more then 12″-14″ deep and it stopped a .40 S&W.

my 25 yrd target got made as well with removable panel to place targets on

I have tried many times and with a similar setup and you will shoot right through that !!!! my .22 occasionally shoot through 3/4″ plywood in one shot, every time when hit more than once in the same place.

.25’s will shoot through on the first shot.. A few weeks ago I was hanging targets on a 3/4″ plywood and shooting through it every time and through a 1/2″ OSB board behind it some times too. The second shot in the same hole will go through that target and Pierce your fence unless you have steel laminated in there It may very well be all clear behind your range but just incase, I wanted to share experiences with shooting into layers of wood. !!!

ride ive got sheet of 3/8 polymer on the backside of the doubled up 2 by tens ive already been down that road with my 2 year old back stop that i built a couple years ago, there are some holes in that fence where i drove too many in one spot and ate right thru 3 inches of wood,if i think im getting close ill take some steel plate and screw it on,hell when my 30 cal gets here i might better go ahead and mod it now.

Here is a short video watching the tube job absorb 3 shots of .30 cal. pellets. @ 22 seconds 34 seconds 44 seconds, this is just for fun cause I needed a break tonight, not a long term deal cause it is obviously small but the concept shape is my favorite for upscaling. There is no missing dead center at this distance either.

Very creative idea. Just little bit louder than mulch tray. I believe it’s too hard to bend the ss tube. ๐Ÿ˜€

quote 22Whisper:

Where can one get this rubber mulch you guys are talking about? does home depot or lowes carry it? what section of the store is it normally in?

Lowes carries it but our store was without today… easy to check stock online.
