Bullet designs for 452 bores

So what do you think would happen by leaving the middle band out of the Accurate molds 458/452 425 B? Is bore friction on a big bore airgun that much of an issue?
BTW I keep looking for his lettering code ie., a, b, d, some are self explanatory but what is the B for?

GESSSH man…….4500 psi fills is crazy. Nothing to do with danger but with how much friggin air thats gonna chew up. I seriously cant in my own mind go over 3600 psi as my 2 3600 psi guns eat up my air and it makes my Carbon fiber seem like a 3000 psi aluminum.

That is what I did, I have not used it yet because my gun ships out tomorrow, but there is no way you can get over 1 full fill per scba tank with a 4500 to 4600 PSI fill, if you cascade the scba that will help but only for a few fills. It would be like being back to 3000 PSI fills with a 3000 PSI scuba tank.

Dan, it sounds to me you would be well served with a booster as shown somewhere on TAG.
All those tanks one could be power for the booster and the others could be source air.
A rifle that wants 4600psi fills is gonna eat air like crazy 🙂

Looks like my ranger 45 caliber with 36inch barrel will be sent out next week ! ya ! can’t wait to get it , i almost have the stock done , i am going to use a my 16ft by 10ft shooting back stop with a bullet trap in the middle to catch everything ,
i am going to start off with some 454 round ball and 230-250 cast lead bullets , i have all my cylinders up to 4500 psi except topping off the the over 500 cf DOT cylinder that i have just started to charge up it’s at 3400 psi right now .
i have ran the shoebox compressor like crazy ! well over the 100 hour mark charging all these cylinders up , i have rebuilt the cylinders once and replaced a o-ring that goes in the plug on the bottom of the billet block , you have to have a small artist brush with a cup of soapy water to keep checking all the fittings on the whole set up for leaks , a small leak can really slow things down on a slow charging set up like the shoebox compressor .

Well ok, the easy then,
5 gal bucket full of sand from home depot, or free from a painter friend. buy extra lids or just duck tape the top when you get holes worn into the bucket , or a piece of the rubber mat under the lid in the top to self heal somewhat to keep the sand from pouring out thru the big holes.
piece of steel in the bottom for the close buckets, and reclaim all lead. 😀

Actually what I am considering is putting down at my 100 yard line, because it is not going to be very portable, a 18x18x24″ box filled with sand, 18×18″ something of that size I am sure to connect with at 100 yards, yeah I know, I should use the side of a barn, but anyway a box maybe two feet long, with a 18×18″ front should work. I can just move my shooting position in and out to what ever range I need
I am thinking of using a rubber front, something like a weight lifters mat or a horse stall mat, cut to size and doubled or tripled if needed, which the target is pasted on and holds the sand in, and a flange that holds the mat in place by pressure of the sand pushing out, a hinged top to salvage lead thru, and all of it sitting on two or three stout homemade sawhorses, or even just on two large firewood rounds.
However I will use the trunk of a Doug Fir to get scope settings for 25, 50, 75, 100, 125, 150 yards. Using a piece of plywood, cut 2×6 feet and a target a foot down from the top. But I will only shoot a few times, or I may just go out into the National Forest and set the plywood up in a clear cut hillside.

I use the rubber mulch too, it does work great, 22 long rifle goes about 6″ into it.
I have a metal box that is 3′ deep and 18″ x 18″ on the ends. It has a 1″ angle iron frame and 1/8″ sheet metal sides with a 1/4″ steel backside. I put 2 layers of phone books in the back and filled it with rubber mulch, then taped the end up with 1/4″ plywood. I’ve recovered about 40 lbs of lead out of it, but I don’t look for specific bullets.
The rubber mulch is amazing at stopping lead. I’ve shot 9mm and .45 pistols into it along with every air rifle I own.
So far nothing has penetrated deeper than 10-12″. Rubber mulch is great at dispersing the energy without deflection. The worst part is remelting the lead, no matter how I try, some rubber is embedded in the lead and it stinks…..bad.

I am waiting to see what the hell RC is going to use as a back stop for the accuracy reports and reviews , when he gets the big bore.
Actually i saw a back stop with like a 6 ‘ long box that someone built with 2×12 ‘s , with a 1/2″ hinged top , with dividers like every foot or so made of card board , filled with the rubber mulch to retain all the lead shot into it , to recast , would be a nice set up, and you could reuse the lead .
this would be a nice quite set up for the slugs, otherwise a steel snail trap if you have welders and such to retain the lead. i would dang sure use something to retain with that much going down range each shot . 🙂

I watched my dad shoot a forked horn buck from out the window of a 49 Chev Pu when I was 5 years old. We were on a road behind the house going to turn on the headgate for our irrigation water.
I was hooked.
I got my first bow, 30 lb bow when I was 6, to my parents chargine, they did not realize they were ordering that powerful of a bow, but it delighted me. I got a 50 LB Indian Archer recurve bow when I was 15 years old, that was 46 years ago, it sits beside me as I write this.
We have to draw Rocky Mountain tags here, unless you own over 40 acres within the hunt area, then if you do not draw, you can have a Land Owners preference tag to hunt on your property for cows, if you have 160 acres you can have a bull tag.
Since I sold my land there, I have to draw, if I do not draw a rifle tag, I will hunt with a bow, so I will perhaps buy a compound bow.
I do not like the bow season as much, the bulls are easier to get then during rut, but I prefer to eat yearling cows, and I feel herds of cows are harder to hunt, most would disagree, but the bulls are loners where I hunt, and cows are in herds, it is far easier to hunt two sets of eyes than it is 30 sets of eyes.
And yes I do know what you mean.

Man we need to get you a gun camera to film this epic elk airgun hunt , heck i will volunteer to film it for ya , i know it would make good TV hunting show ! 605 on directv would take it in a heart beat . it would make a good show for Dan’s xp airguns also .
How loud are these things guys , what powder gun do you think they are close to.
NO not for a pipe bomb JH gun !
they make a pretty good pop ! but it is not the distance carrying boom that a powder burner makes , if you have a moderator they can be quieted down quite a bit .
The xp ranger can shoot with a 36inch barrel a 250 g bullet on medium power 4500 psi over 1200fps or a 540 grain hollow point at over 900 fps on high power 4500 psi , so you can judge by those numbers .

that is why i have so many cylinders ready to go , so i can keep high 4000-4500 for a lot of shooting , i figure i run a bottle down to 4000 then grab another , then top them back off ,
the 500 cf DOT will help out, it holds the pressure up quite well i toped my scuba 3000 psi large tanks from 2000 to 3000 5-6 times , and the pressure was down to 3400 psi on the 500 cf dot tank at that point .
the ranger will still shoot really good with 3000-3500 psi , 454 round ball shoots around 1100 fps on low power with this lower pressure ,
a booster would be a good addition to the shoebox ,
right now i am adding air to the 500 cf DOT tank it looks like it takes just over 1 hour of shoebox run time to add 100psi to it ,
