breech improvement?
im sure it has popped up a couple of times, but in our never ending quest for efficiency, has anybody considered cutting an extra o ring slot in both ends of the breech slide, doubling the sealing potential of the breech(theoretically), at the compromise of a perhaps slightly stickier action? this to me seems to be a weak spot in the AF design. if it has been done, somebody please chime in with their findings.

someone above said this .a good oring will seal it . but i did two on the barrle side kinda for like what someone above said kinda like a fail safe. but i alos cut a tiny grove in between those o rings for a place to put lube and it would keep those rings good . and evey thing lube for a wile
o rings in the 1800s? sure, why not… 😆
I believe the Girandoni breech, if that’s what they call it, is tapered slightly and wedges in place. I didn’t check to see if o-rings are used.

How about a sideways steel breech like the Girandoni used. I’d love to have a modernized replica. I keep re-viewing the videos on u-tube.

that is really cool, i also think the loading mechanism design could be adapted to the AF rifles with a little ingenuity…

Experimented with aluminium but that gives a lot of wear/friction during cocking. I’ll stick with delrin. When going big bore you could sleeve is for extra strength!

Take care with some transparent stuff it can be very brittle, when you shoot heavy “bullets”you get a big pressure build up in the breech,
it’s no fun when parts smashed in your face. 😥
Need some time and health, to make a two part breech.
ya know, since i named this topic “breech improvement”, how bout this? anybody experiment with different materials for a custom breech, such as metal of some sort which might facilitate more efficient energy transfer, or maybe polycarbonate or lucite(how cool would a transparent breech be?) 😎

I have a 90 on my AAA condor from Tony…as Adam says he offers this upgrade if you don’t want to do it yourself. One thing I don’t understand (and I have owned four different AF rifles) is that in all of them I never experienced any “lost air” from the breech o-ring/top hat in question. Not once did I ever feel any air escape there. Has anyone actually experienced leaking air at that position????

yea, i was thinking that too. the silicone(or whatever you use) would stay in the pocket formed between the two barrel side rings, perhaps extending the time between lubings…
