Q:

Recieved a M-ROD22 / Returning M-ROD22

So I shot my new M-ROD22 today and will be returning it tomorrow… Here’s my notes:

Pros
* Nice looking
* Great trigger
* Semi-smooth action
* Quiet quiet quiet – Neighbor’s dog didn’t bark at 10 yards from my bench rest!
* Power curve is very stable from 2800psi to 2000psi, kudos to Crosman.
* 35 yards – Predator grouped the best at 1.0-1.5″
* Stock 25fpe with Predators but I can get 23fpe with a 177 Big Boy Seniors on a TSS.
* Single shot tray is great; but why on a multi? see below.

Cons
* Can feed 1-2-3-4 pellets into the barrel!!!! the magazine doesn’t prevent multiple feeds. Used the push rod 3 times over 4 hours to prevent a train wreak.
* Accuracy improved with single shot tray vs magazine… maybe pellet damage on feed?
* Barrel band was touching shroud – adjusted.
* 35 yards every 21gn Barracudas was a flier!!!!!!
* Barrel droop, had to shim the scope.
* Heavy.
* Floating barrel connected to shroud is overrated moves when you touch it. I own a floated bull on PB and they don’t flex when you touch them… Did I say crap? crap crap crap.

I picked up my 177 Talon SS and realized how lucky we are after handling that overweight “show boat” of a gun.

If I’ve offended anyone… I don’t care… please share your good experiences on this thread.

Packrat,

Just your opinion?

As much as you have worked on and customised, and written about Crosmans, your opinion to me is GOLD! I look up your posts and study them quite often on the Crosman pistol owners forum.

There are some Crosmans out there that are stunnig performers, but they should pretty much all be that way.

Some say I write too much about a gun I have not shot, and that is a very good point I admit, but I have not shot a Air Wolf, or a Rainstorm, or a FX Royale or a host of others, but from what I read, they are terrerifc performers, I do not need to shoot them to know that, and if those companies come out with a new product, I trust their research and development teams and their quality control process, so I don’t need to shoot a gun to criticize the overall quality as a whole as it comes from a producer.

Shaggy I am happy you have had good experiences along with Steve and many others here, but for every good one how many bad experiences do we hear about, how many Crosmans that were bad, how many Fx’s and Daystates, word gets out, it has with Crosman and in a lessor degree with Daystate, that is why the internet is such a good thing.

My short list is FX and Evanix because of what I have read, posts may change my mind before I buy , or reinforce my descision.

We share information and it does us all, including the industry a good service.

Thanks for the comment.
When I get a gun I go through it. My 25 had the alignment bushing holding the barrel off, I noticed it off the bat and aligned it.
I clean the gun from rear to front, till it is spotless, these things I don’t short change on and I think you are up to date as well on this. Accuracy depends on it.
I have bought 4 Marauders and can knock the top off of a water bottle with either one at 40 yards almost constant from a Bi pod on a Bench.
The ups on the Air Force is the weight, and the short gun, and the Downs on my Condor is the noise, but thanks to Tony the TT I bought from Johncondor25 has a shroud and I also have a shroud I purchased.
I don’t get in a hurry to see if the gun will shoot and I don’t fill to the max the first shot,.
I have multi pumps that hasn’t been pumped to the max(10) times 50 times in 17 years.
It looks like I would have gotten at least one Bad Marauder out of the 4. I also bought the Discoveries 22 and 177 and they shoot good.
Just like automobiles, I recon a Lemon can be had, I have seen these threads a lot and every body who buys any air rifle is needing help somewhere, but it all has IMHO boiled down too, the prep and the Lube or not lube, or what kind of pellets to use.
My marauders are not even pellet picky, I might have to realign my scope for the group to hit where I aim, but the groups are all in an acceptable range, I have killed Bumble Bee’s on my targets at 40 Yards and closer.
Being that we are talking about Air rifles and that 40 to 45 yards is about the best range, I can’t complain .
Well Lemon is as lemon is, I recon,. Mine is 100% spectacular.
If I was in a hard spot I would sell one or 2 or if I ran upon an unsuspected Bill to pay, but right now I can’t pick one from the other. 😀
Ive also noticed on these forums you guys like to timker, and have seen Marauders messed up on this very site, Seller explained it in his sell.
And have seen people write messages on how do I make it do this or that, Mine is out of the box no screws touched accpet the little air open adjustment where you take the stock off and turn it out 4 turns, and that openes it wide open according to the specs,. Well! They already had it open 3 and 1/4 turns so I Only had to open it 3/4 turn, to put it on max, and thats the only scrw to this day that has been touched on mine.
So I leave the maintnanace on the guns to the people who made them, with the acception of My Tallondor TT, I bought it tuned and it is like it was when I got it. It does what Tony showed on the Paper he shot at and sent with it. That’s the way I bought it and that’s the wy it will be till it Plum quits LOLOL. So to all you tinkerers, I’m living proof that you all need to leave that part of the Gun alone LOLOL.

Before I die, I want a 4″ dick, a Schmidt and Bender scope, a semi-auto Edgun, a Corvette, and a small pontoon boat.

With a $12.00 retail barrel, Crosman did what they could and offered a $350 pcp repeating rifle for the ignorant masses, of whom I am one.

Further, a fruit fly is a dangerous threat to our ecology. Being “Green”, I don’t believe in killing anything, but an effective means of birth control is to shoot their dicks off, at the base, and release them to lament their fate.

I also advocate this method for welfare breeders, social parasites, pedophiles, young “gansta’s”, rapists, all gang members, attorneys, constantly whining minorities, illegal aliens, and Liberals.

Let them live, but don’t let them propogate.

This allows the rest of us to go about our day, busily screwing each other in a myriad of manners. World peace will result, athelete’s foot will be eliminated in the Third World!

Meanwhile….form a circle!

Kindest regards,

Kindly ‘Ol Uncle Hoot :3:

Thanks for the Input. I have all 4 marauders and I won’t sell either of them. I also have the Talon 17, talon ss, talondor TT, and condor with a 25 caliber Barrel, and the ss in 22 cal. None are for sale.
I have the Corseair 308, Not for sale.
I have older guns that Has been reliable for over 20 years, None is for sale.
I also have 3 gunvalts full of Powder burners in every caliber, I done sold all the culls in them 😀 but as I said I have 3 valts full left, including 1911 45’s to 22 gold triger browning buck mark.
And from 22 to 4570, None for sale 😀 I am really sorry to hear that you have had the trouble with the Showboat, but maybe it is because I lift weights but, all mine are easy to carry, I must admit the Talon with the 22 barell is better for tight places. It’s about the size of the new Talon Pistol they are going to sell minus the tank, I have the High flow on mine and Tagdaggers hamer weight pushing it at a whooping 1600+ FPS with Raptors and that’s from a 12 inch barell it is a screamer, Don’t let the FPS get you excited, the regular 7.9 grains will fly almost as fast and penetrate further. So Speed isn’t everything , weight has a little to do with it 😀 I won’t give out the Sizes or weight on the Airarcher weight, if Tagdagger want’s people to know he can tell it, But It wouldn’t be respectfull of me to reveal his creation, it is really a unique striker and the weight matches the tank and I don’t think I will ever have to worry about it messing up my valve. Thanks again Tag,.

WHile very cool looking , HOOTS PROD is SOOOOO FAR from a stock Crosman model…My TSS shoots 5 shot groups at 47 yards , that are LESS than 3/8 ” THAT is plentyy accurate for me–All the BLING on Hoots gunis exactly that…just bling..anyone with the money can buy all that bolt-on stuff…I’ve done it myself…But it has ZEROto do with the fact that you probably will have to buy a Prod, then send it back, and get another and HOPE it shoots right..Ya do not have that trouble with Air Force or Air Arms, or a host of other guns…That’s my point, and just my opinion…

Well said. My M-Rod grouped great at 7 yards off hand… but at 35 yards bench rested I had pellets missing 2″ left, then 2″ right, then up, then down.

I’m saving up for a Evanix Rainstorm in 2012 and a high quality scope.

PB,

Read the posts on the Yellow. There are knowledgable shooters who are on their 3 rd Rod of whatever length, they are trying all pellets and they do not group.

They send them back and the next one does the same thing. Crosman is splendid about taking them back, but still they do not shoot well.

It is not just the 22’s it is also the 25’s.

Smith and Wesson did this same thing business wise in the 70’s, they sold revolvers that had the barrels set crooked in the frame, they were visable with the naked eye. S&W figured most shooters would not care, because most would not shoot them.

PD’s had fits with them in the training Departments, past 15 yards they were feet off the target.

The PRods seem to be worse than the MRods. Now Someone will ump in and say,”but I got a good one.” Sorry, the fact someone wins the lottery does not induce me to buy a ticket.

Having said all this seeing Hoots gun, makes me want one very badly, but I just will not pull the trigger on something I have a great chance of having to send back.

Thing is, most shooters will by one at a big outlet store, shoot it off hand in the yard and never know they have a problem.

Regards,

Roachcreek

I ha vent been keeping up, so is the 25 Mrod working and has a different barrel , and the 22 Mrod having problems or what.

I remember a post quite a while back seems like that a guy was comparing the m rod to the condor and said something about like that. 22 would not shoot with his 25 .

I just think Crosman made a barrel that suits their pellets and few others. If they used a LW heavy barrel the design would likely work perfectly.

Hoot,

That 20 meters is the problem with me.

I mean with Viagra your tired old dick will take a fruit fly off the wall at 20 meters, so what does 20 meters prove?.

Crosman quality control is shit, pure shit. Why do you think all these true shooters are pissed off about their Mrod and Prods? It is because they don’t shoot for shit, and most buyers will not be able to tell the difference, and Crosman knows that and could care fucking less, because most shooters will not take issue at their bad shooting guns, why? They will never bench them is why. And Crosman keeps pumping more and more into the system, because they are making money and they really don’t give a rats ass if they shoot accurately or not as long as some smuck reads the hype and lays down the cash, they will take the chance that he never returns it.

Now to complete the true reach around we have a gun that nobody anticipated, why, nobody wanted one and no one asked for one.

And we call it the Rouge, which is just a bad marketing descision with spendid technolodgy that should have been put into a 22 or a 25, great science in the form of poor captalistic execution. Talk about letting the future slip thru your fingers.

Sure it is a great idea for a select few, but the hype they are selling it with is such Crosman bullshit, I repeat it is the answer to a question not asked, nobody asked for a shrouded mulitshot 357, not the big bore guys or want a be’s or the small caliber fans, nobody asked for that abortion.

So now we will have to watch this unfold like we have with the poor shooting Mrods, and the poor shooting Prods.

And what do we get out of it? What do we learn? We get led towards FX and Evanix and AA and a host of other gun manufactures that make better marketing descisions.

I don’t want Crosman to step on their dicks, I want them to make great products, I want to buy a Mrod and I want to buy a Prod, but not until they get their act together and I know I can buy with confidence.

And some on these forums have said how can you say these things about the Rogue when you have not shot it? It is still an answer to that unasked question, it is touted as a coyote gun, and few living peple have killed as many coyotes as I have unless they are a US Goverment gunner doing predator control, and I have to tell you, the Rogue is not a coyote gun, pure and simple. And again it comes from a company that does not seen to care if your gun shoots straight or not.

What I want to see next Shotshow is Crosman coming out with nothing new, just an announcement that they are going to fix what they have put out so far.

The AA 4 and 510’s are wonderful guns, but I want 35 to 40 FPE with 18 grain Exacts, damn few rifles will do that. The FX Royal is right at the edge, the Evanix rifles will do it, and Condor or even a 24 inch barreled Talon will do it.

So will a MRod, problem is you can’t hit your ass with it. Put your computer in that Mrod with a stock that looks like an adult designed it and shoots 1/2 inch with any Mrod in the store, and I will buy one.

Kind regards old friend,

Roachcreek

that’s strange- it doesn’t look like a pistol. then again, i have never seen a fruit fly dick , so i probably wouldn’t know a pistol from a carbine anyway.

Gentlemen…

Kindly form a neat circle, and fuck yourselves. End man does a “reacharound”.

My P-rod will shoot the dick off a fruit fly at 20 meters with a 4X scope…at night! AND… no one will hear it happen.

Kindest regards, and best wishes to your families.

Unassuming, kindly, ‘Ol Uncle Hoot 😯

and to think, Crossman wants to sell a new technology $1500 PCP when they can’t work out the QC issues in a gun that has been around for over a year. makes me get a warm fuzzy feeling and want to rush out and put my name on the waiting list! it’s not like these issues are new and have appeared out of nowhere. same bullshit- different day. BUY AMERICAN-YOU WILL BE GLAD YOU DID(AS LONG AS IT’S NOT CROSSMAN).

I hear ya… I still want a quiet(ish) wood stock 22 with significant power. My TSS is a 177 and great for back yard work.

So… What should I look at for my Christmas present an AA S410? what’s the difference etc. Maybe PM me with some insights so I can get my short list together.

PS. I kept the DIN->Foster hose, figuring another gun is on my horizon 😉

ssshooter- It all turned out for the best…Two weeks (or less) after I had sold (gave away) my TSS I realized what a HUGE mistake I had made..I bought several other guns after that. looking, looking, looking. The S410 was a stroke of PURE LUCK, you can’t believe the good deal I got on it….Anyhow, I FINALLY got my “feces consolidated” and got me another TSS, .177 instead of .22…and you’ve seen the groups it shoots 😀 Couldn’t be happier..however, I still maintain that buying even a used Air Arms S410 or S510, would be s good move. AA guns are WORLD-WIDE known for being one of the very best all around airguns out there..Reliable, dependable, beautiful wood stocks, and are as easy to work on as any Crosman 22XX series gun….they last forever, don’t break, hold their value and offer years of airgun pleasure…BUT..having a KICK-ASS CONDOR would be righteous as all hell, too 😆
