.25 Caliber Surefire Slugs

I hear yah. We are not big vension fans but the turkeys are great. I got a Russian boar a few years ago (corn fed though) and he was real tasty too. I got a black bear about 10 years ago and he was the worst tasting wild game I have eaten and he was processed real fast and it was cool up in Canada but he was just bad.

With these Barnes slugs I think I am covered for any backyard vermin. I have taken everything in years past with a 22 CB and these have twice the weight and three times the energy and are a heck of a lot more accurate. The aimpoint from Predators didn’t change much to the slugs. Not enough to chancge the scope. Less than 1/2″ at 50 yards. I thought they might shoot low. I am opossum ready.

My kids have given the deer, a rabbit, and a red fox names. They would shoot me first if I harmed one of them. We have plenty of destructive vermin around trying to eat my house though. Our red fox will come out and sit down and eat sunflower seeds while we watch and when he hears an airgun shot he knows a squirrel, sparrow, or some other tasty snack is close by and appears within 15 minutes or so. We’ve trained him.

Worse – St. Louis 😛 Just kidding it goes through thick woods up and down two hills and then there are houses about 300 yards through the woods on the high ridge I can’t see (even in the winter). I shoot over a wet weather creek into a hillside. We have lots of critters (deer daily that are more like cattle in our yards since everyone wrongly feeds them like my kids) and are at the very top Missouri’s restablished black bear range but the closest one so far has been spotted only within 10 miles or so. Yet I am only 20 miles south of St. Louis. We have raccoons, opossums. skunks, cottontail rabbits, chipmunks, squirrels (greys are out of control), copper heads (yes poisonous), a few timber rattlers, armadillos (new to the area the last 5 years or so), turkeys, way too many deer, some coyotes and bobcats, red fox, feral cats, some river otters (from a too successful restocking program).

When I went to ckeck out the opossum Stubby had got this deer was eating. I feel like I live in a zoo sometimes.

You don’t know what your asking. My 50 yard target is through a path I cut in the spring through tick infested poison ivy and oak laden woods. Here is an old picture I had of the 30 and a 40 yard target behind the deer corn and salt block before I finished cutting for the 50 yard target. It’s a jungle (see the vines). I’ll send my son out. 😆

I did a first 5 shot group with the 6-ring from a rest but with me shaking at 50 yards. (I do my real accuracy testing using a CTK gun vise) and I got 7/8″ ctc. That’s about what I see with Kodiaks/Cudas. It has already met my criteria as a very good round. One slug buried itself in a stump behind the target and it was pretty flattened when I dug it out. I also already heard a mean ricochet on a log laying down behind the target where i skinned the trunk for about 6″.

That 855 avg from the last post was a 10 shot group from 3000 psi fill before.

Next I will set things up with the gun vise but I already see an easy 5/8″ group at 50 yds – maybe better based on the experience of switching from me to the gun vise. I have not seen any flyers or stringing either direction and all target holes appear perfectly round.
