Q:

New Slugs – 52 gr – whatever happened

SECoda wrote…
I have some new (different vendor) 52 grain solid slugs coming to try that are supposed to be extremely accurate out past 100 yards from a choked LW barrel. They are regular pistol slugs sized down to .2495 diameter from a cast of .2535 and are only 12 bhn. The do about 97 fpe but have a higher velocity. I will be testing them shortly.

Whatever happend wiht that ?

I should also add at power setting 0, im getting 990 to 1027 fps with jsb 25.39’s when filling to about 2200 psi..The 97 fpe with the eun jin 43’s was with a 2900 psi fill..

So I just used a friends chrony, because I thought mine must be wrong..My stock condor .25, just with an o ring, polished tophat( opened up, but I forget what I settled on as far as gap) and Im getting 1005 fps with eun jin 43.2 gr for 97 fpe? Holy crap! I get about 88 fpe with jsb 33.95 grain…How can this be?

From past testing I expect to see just under 1000 fps.

That is a good average with a 18″ barrel, let me know your results when you try the 24″. These 50 gr. look like fun, lol.

quote YamahaR1:

Sounds like they are working just fine for you. What is your Muzzle velocity with your set up SECoda?

They are avg just over 900 fps as well but that is with an 18″ barrel. I will try the 24″ barrel too.

that would work to

Using nail clippers I think I got very close weights. I’m going to mod a pair of horizontal dikes then swipe them over a plain. I think the 10 I did farmer style came out close enough and very fast. But I must say jigged in a mill would be fastest and more precise.

Has anyone made a collet out of plastic for a lathe so u can just put them in and turn them down so there all the same size and close to the same waight.? Seam like it migjt work and it would be faster id think no idea just throw out my thought because im instred in this 50 grain thing

I shot my 10 modified slugs a few minutes ogo and the grouped about the same as the 6 rings did,but there is a hurricane that is blowing in my neck of the woods. About one inch in 35 yrds because of the convieniece of that target station. Start fill was 3000 psi and it took me 5 shots with the 6 rings to get everything lined up. I did not refill for the 5 ring mods. Here’s the #’s I got.

5th 6 ring. 867.9

5 ring. 924.9
918.4
916.3
906.4
902.1
897.5
890.2
885.5
875.5
868.4
End pressure 2200 psi

At 15 shots leaves me with 53 1/3 psi per shot and the 5 rings started around 2750 psi.

Sounds like they are working just fine for you. What is your Muzzle velocity with your set up SECoda?

I am testing them right now of off the benchrest on my second level deck. The 50’s are grouping sbout an inch at 50 yards (similar to the 62s) and velocity is up about 65 fps over the 62 grains.

Those purposely made 5 rings are pretty cool looking thenoid and SECoda. The applications for Jerrys slugs are unlimited, but I will have to stay with the 6, 7, 9, ring slugs.

Here are a couple of the Surefires I machined down next to a 6-ring.

OK, so hear you go, 5 rings for 50 gr average. All tools needed are in this pic.

The toe nail clippers leave a small bur on the base. The oober sharp knife shaves it off pretty clean.

No special jigs or machine needed to do this. It took me about ten minutes to do the entire procedure. Being the first attempt, I was taking my sweet ass time.

These were all cut from 9 ring Timmy slugs (I would like to give credit where credit is due for the fine job the young lad is doing). I’m planning on making some swagging die’s for the fun of experimentation, so the scraps will go in a pile with my recovered lead or go back to Jerry when I’m ready for more.

With the hurricane heading strait for us in CT, I will not be able to test them until sometime next week. When I do it, it will be vised, chronied and accuracy tested. If I can swing it I may make a bash plate for my chrony and BC test also for all the slugs.

I believe Airgunner1 was planning on doing something like that.
