.25 Daystate Air Ranger on Order
After much research and nail biting I have a .25 Daystate Air Ranger on order with a Huggett shroud upgrade and yes another Hawke Sidewinder Tactical 6.5-20x. This is a 50 fpe model that does 40 shots. It should arrive Monday or Tuesday.
I also ordered a box of the Daystate solid 36 grain pellets that supposedly shoot well out of a few Condors to try in the Condor.

Yes, I am hearing the same thing about the Royale, but I just might get me one in .22 cal and shoot heavier lead through and maybe cut down on sound level in that caliber.
AOA lists the Huggett at $375 but they cut that down a whole lot with an Air Ranger or Air Wolf purchase from them. I also got quite a discount on the scope because they give a free Hawke Airmax scope with a Daystate but I took that as a credit on a Sidewinder Tactical because I love the etched glass 1/2 mil dot 20x reticles.
Only the length of the FX made me hesitate. It is lighter than the AR and very well built but I seem to hear of more issues with FX on the YF. Not sure why. Maybe more are sold than Daystates. That said I would still like a 500 Royale in .25. They adjust them up to about 47 fpe in .25 so it has plenty of power.
Take a look at the Air Wolf for shot count. They are incredible.
Thank you for nice write up. I am wrestling right now between Air Ranger and FX Royale and so far it looks like Ranger is built more solidly. But it is just the feeling that I get looking at it. But on the other hand I like Royale’s high shot count.
BTW, I know it might not be appropriate question but, how much was that additional shroud for AR? If I buy one, I would have to probably get that too, as I heard that they are fairly loud even with the full barrel shroud.

I always measure CTC? How do you? That would be under 1/2″ overall hole – right? I get that question a lot for some reason. (I shot competitive bench rest in the 90s with a 22 PPC).

Well, in general, the overall quality, performance, and accuracy is just superb to anything else I have ever owned. I am still testing pellets but I have not tried a pellet yet that shot badly although the JSB Kings are at the top of the list. Predators shoot very well as do Benjamin domes and Cudas/Kodiaks. The Daystate 36 grain pellets I got with it from AOA shot the worst so far which is a 1/2″ group at 30 yards. When I do my part, the JSB Kings shoot under a 1/4″ at 30 yards. I only have clear area for targets out to 75 yards in my woods. My son and I shot about 20 5 shot groups and the best were under 3/4″ from our bench rest. With sorted pellets it shouldnt have a problem getting some 1″ groups at 100 yards in calm conditions. The best groups I have seen with the Marauder or Condor are at least double that. There is something to be said for a screened match grade, polished barrel.
I separated the stock from the action assembly and the machining, bluing, fit and finish is top notch. I equate it something like a high end Sako or Weatherby rifle in that same $2k price range. I asked for a special stock and they sent me one a little darker loaded with tiger stripping and I couldn’t be happier with that. I just added a Vortex scope level, Hawke 4″ side focus wheel, and Butler Creek flip caps. I went with a moderate power .25 (50 fpe) model. It is right at 50 fpe with Kings (940 fps) and it shot 54 fpe with Kodiaks. Daystate claims 40 full power shots at a full charge and these guns can take a 250 bar/3625 max fill although I am just filling it to 3000 psi. It should take care of any critters to 100+ yards.
I added the Huggett shroud and it is very effective and attractice. It is fabricated from thin stainless steel and makes the AR about as quiet as the .25 Marauder. They use SS mesh vents and fluting to snaze it up. For accuracy sake and long pellets I am only using the single shot tray at the moment but it also comes with a magazine. I am just starting to tweak on the trigger which is completely adjustable.
