The 1/4 mile Soda can shot! (TD257 at 446 yards)
The Short story:
I came up with the idea of shooting a soda can at distance cause it’s something I’ve tried to do with my powder burners. But with my PB’s i try it at 500 yards which i thought to be too far for my Airgun. So, while out one weekend with the TD257, i decided to simply back the zoom down on my scope to 6x and then aim and shoot at a rock face some 402 yards away. I was shocked when just by guessing at the aim point in my scope, i was able to hit the rock the very first time. After getting a good aim point reference, i was dropping bullets in the same area shot after shot. So then it hit me, “I COULD HIT A SODA CAN AT THAT RANGE AND THAT WOULD MAKE A COOL VIDEO IF I DO HIT IT”! I then talked to Unrepenentsinner about his Hoch bullets and mentioned to him that i hit a rock face and that i want to try and hit a soda can at that distance. URS then sais, “WHY JUST 400 yards, WHY NOT DO IT AT 440 YARDS SO YOU CAN CLAIM A 1/4 MILE SHOT WITH A AIRGUN”. Then all the lights went on and someone WAS HOME…lol! I then told URS, I, WILL DO IT! I then contacted RJ Porter about using his FINE cast 102 gr Spitzer bullets for the task because they have a much higher BC than my Lyman 257420 bullets. Long story short, the TASK was accomplished!

I never did answer your question from top O the page. The one good thing about California compared to Texas (I’m from there) is the LACK OF BUGS. Yes we have ants and some mosquitoes but dude, i can’t seriously remember the last time i’ve seen one or have been bit by one. Here, we can eat ouside in a Cafe on a sidewalk like they do in France and a pigeon or 2 is all you have to worry about. And yes, we have flies but, it’s nothing like TEXAS. So, i can lay on the ground out here and have nothing to worry about. I do it quite often and its a comfort to know that i’m not laying on a bed of bugs of some sort…lol! BTW! THOSE ARE DAMNED GREAT GROUPS SIR

U hit the nail on the head. I’m fortunate to live close to Doug and lucky that good machinist like Adam, Doug and Ernie are willing to create great products that i’m fortunate to shoot. many moons ago while searching through the old Sears and Beeman catalogues, things that i do today weren’t even a concept or a gleem or thought in anyones minds let alone mine. Let alone, the guns of then having the ability to do what they do today. I mean, 100-446 yard shots, 100-1000 FPE guns (air), 1/2″ 100 yard groups, 50-72 cal guns (air), scopes with mildots and 100 MOA adjustment, casting bullets for airguns, killing yotes, hogs and deer and such were unfathomable and was nowhere near a concept. So yes sir, i agree, we live in a great AIRGUN time right now!

Tof, unreal man! We live in the “Golden Age” of airguns and shooters. The mod guys, the casters, and a bunch of skilled folks are communicating, experimenting and going so far beyond old boundaries, it’s a new world.

After you nail a few hundred cans @ 1/4 mile, maybe the excitement will calm down so you can hit some at 1/2 mile! 😛

Doug, the LBT bullets that I sent Mike dropped .253” using pure lead. I cast around 100 of each weight, resized them to .251” and sent them to Mike to try. I then sent the molds back to Veral for him to open the driving bands up to .258”. The 55 grain bullets look very good out of Mike’s chocked Condor barrel. I can’t wait to try them out of the Hart barrels. I am going to order a round nose, 2 driving band low drag .258” 35 and 45 grain molds from Veral this week to try out in my Matadors with my Hart .257” barrels.
Hart shipped my 28” long, .560” OD, 1 in 14” twist .257” barrel this morning. My Andros regulator shipped yesterday. I still need to get my Hart barrels threaded, a .257” transfer port bushing made and a .257” bolt made. I hope to have my .257” Boss/Teddgun project up and going in a month or so. If the .257” Boss can easily handle a 55 grain .257” bullet, I will try heavier slugs in it.
All of my LBT molds are 4 cavity and I want to send them out and have 2 of the cavities made into hollow points.
This cast bullets in air guns bull shit is quickly getting out of hand! 😯 😆

Yes RC I have 2 molds from LBT. Copied the Lyman bullet but made it as pointed as he could. 76 gr.
I can send you some to try in your Haley if you want.
Then I have the same bullet with only 2 bands on it. It’s his airgun version. It is 75 gr.
I just talked to him and I’m going to have him make me 2 .253″ molds for my .25. One will be 75 gr with 4 small lube groves and spritzer type.
The other will be same but with a nice flat point.
Old Goat has the mold. He sent me some to try out. They are sized to .251 . Very easy to load into the breach, but my breach has be relieved some.

Thank God for Black lights! The little fuckers show up like little green light bulbs when hit by UV light. I am using a Sure Fire C-2 with a UV assembly installed. Best money I ever spent on a replacement LED assembly! 😉
Found the problem with the lighter bullets. Not enough velocity. (I Think), as they are cork screwing. Odd thing is, the heavier 56gr. fly true.
More test when the ShoeBox arrives. 😉
