I dropped off my wife at Goodwill this afternoon because she wanted to see if she could save money on finding scrubs (work clothes). In preparation for my NC shroud arrival tomorrow, I decided to work on my pellet trap again. I went to Lowes and bought a $40 electric steel box. I then headed back to pickup my wife but she asked me to come in because she wasn’t done browsing. I was swearing up and down blaming her being a woman. Walking around trying to find my wife, I found this:
Brand spanking new steel medicine cabinet.
The box was nailed together pretty good but I wanted to make sure it was deep enough to put duct seal. Opened it and it was so it came home with me for $14.99. Before heading home, I stopped by Lowes and returned the electric box. I am very excited about it, perfect size. What I don’t get is why are there two mirrors on the side of the box if it is going to be inside the wall?
Question for those who use duct seal. Do I need to do multiple layers of the putty, or can one bar deep stop the pellet over and over?

I had an extra bar of duct seal from my last purchased so I decided to test it out by hanging it to my pellet trap. Shot it 5x from 20yds. It is currently 75 degrees in Orlando, FL. 😯 I hope the mulch slows it down a bit before hitting the duct seal in my trap.

Yes, we should always consider that, however I live between almost 90 neighbors but my Edgun is enough quite to me, I never heard anything or complain from my neighbors, even most of them still don’t know that what I have or I am doing,?
The only sound that can be heard is the sound of impacting pellets ….
My Edgun is more quieter than my marauder,

You’re crazy Hoot crazy! But I like you. I didn’t like the location after I ranged it either. Will be moving it towards the left side of the fence. Behind the fence is a wooded area. Thanks for the heads up on the duct seal, sounds like a good plan to put the chicken wire on the other side of the mulch to hold the seal together. Then place the mulch back on top then put another layer of chicken wire.

Donny, Donny, Donny….do you have any fear of that pellet going through some innocent person’s nut-sack as they innocently round that corner of the house looking for you? Was it absolutely necessary for you to put the target groin-high???
I know you put a lot of effort and time into this project,but that thought aside, it is the responsibility of the adults on this thread to advise you that at any temperature over 95+ F, that duct seal gets very very soft, which is to say it will seek the lowest point in that box you built. It doesn’t melt, but it will not hold it’s shape, or place, in Florida Summer heat.
I suggest you remove the mulch, put the screen directly over the duct seal, solidly staple it into place to hold the duct seal in place as Summer approaches, then put the mulch back in, and more screen on top of the mulch to hold it in place.
You will then have a fighting chance of it holding together for awhile…instead of it looking like a redneck cat litter box, with Owl shit oozing out the bottom…

(Because…been there, done that!)
Worked on my Pellet trap today. I emptied out my old trap and placed the medicine cabinet inside of it.
I placed a total of 19 duct seal inside. $2.45 x 19 = $46.55 Definitely not cheap but this stuff is great. For those that never used it, it’s a lot more dense than play dough, or any type of putty I’ve used. also sticky too. I had to use rubber gloves to hand them.
With 3 inches to spare, I topped it off with rubber mulch. almost used up the whole bag. I then cut chicken wire about 3 inches over the edges and pressed them down on the backside of the cabinet.
With room on both sides, I stuffed them with my son’s foam mats to prevent the cabinet from moving.
I then cut 2 2×4 to go up and down pushing the cabinet back and keeping it firmly in place. the 2×4 were cut very snuggly. Finished it off with screws on the outside to secure the 2x4s
Again, I tied a metal wire going across the box with a clip to hold the targets.
I used my rangefinder today and clocked it at 34 yds.
Overall I am very happy with it. No more fear of the pellet going through the box like what happened last time. I shot at it 5x at around 20 yds and you can hardly hear the pellet hit the mulch. However, I could definitely hear a loud smack when I used my dad’s used 24 pack bud light paper case.
The fact of the matter is this….duck seal is not cheap!!! However, if your ducks are sinking, you need to take immediate action! Lead is cheap compared to a top grade duck. We’ve got to prioritize our tasks!!! Get the leaking ducks fixed first…then do what is needed to reclaim lead scraps.
That’s all I’ve got to say in regards to this matter. They’re your ducks…do what you want!

“Never stare at a duck…”
You know, every lowes and Home Depot has a bad cut and useless wood cart towards the back. I get hard 2×10 or whatever for $1 and just swap them out as needed. After anfew hundred rounds, it becomes filled with lead and then the old lead becomes the stop. I put 3-4k barracudas through the first one at 50 yards and its still functioning. That was at 850 fps so it wasn’t hitting as hard as your edgun, but close. Also, Berliner material and rubber undercoating are surprisingly tuff when the surface is preped properly. One of the few things that show I can’t think of proved was true was Bedliner material works as a blast proofing material. If you got the bucks, the rubber mulch sounds like the ultimate.
I bought a real bullet trap (actually two side-by-side – the second was a gift from the company when my 17 HMR penetrated the original 1/4″ steel back) and had 1/2″ AR400 steel plating welded in inexpensively so it can handle my high powered varmint rifles for a sight-in shot or two. Pellets are near silent on the heavy steel at 45 degrees. 😛 The lead is captured in the bottom. I paid $25 each for the armor steel and the plating to be plasma cut and welded in place each. We do some informal 22LR competition in the winters and needed something a bit more substantial. (and no there is no danger from lead dust in the air) If there is a negative it would be that the traps are a good 25 lbs each.
F.O.E. = Fraternal Order of Eagles (Beer drinking club for veterans in the ’50’s and ’60’s, where the guys could get away from their wives and do nothing in a small do nothing town on a hot Summer night.)
All of the above will work. Everyone has their favorite. My neighbor used to have ‘designer’ chickens…all red, fluffy, and pretty. I used their heads as a backstop for my Talon SS with a GTBJ shroud. All she could figure out was her chicken’s heads were exploding. I told her those chickens came from China, and the Arkansas heat was the problem…building up pressure in their tiny heads till they couldn’t hold it in anymore.

The important thing is those pellets don’t make it through that vinyl fence. Neighbors have very little sense of humor about bullet holes in their vinyl fence.
