I read that you had some Delrin that you were going to spin up and that you ordered some 1″ / .055 wire spring. Your idea to make it more robust and to modify it the least creating a more substantial and reliable valve stem is a great approach. But I wonder why Ed made the valve stems so thin. The only thing I came up with is that he was trying to reduce drag. I hope you find a solution.
I am at about 1100 but I would have thought that several of the other long 30 cal owners would have that topped by now. :suprisedn:
I ordered a couple feet of .500″ delrin so I can make the plactic parts that are failing until we knock out a more robust fix. I also got a different spring and materials coming to make a modified design to test. Save those metal stems cause they just pull out and press into the replacment plastic. That is what I am running on now … Ya I am thinking SeCoda is next highest shot count from memory but not sure, he will chime in and say here in a bit I think…
Ride, my .30 Long arrived shooting around 890 fps. Only thing needed changing was the breech probe o-rings because of the blow by. Other than that I have done nothing but shoot it. Counting my empty tins I guess I have around 750-800 rounds through my .30 cal Long. This is a pretty solid robust gun and when we buy the gun we know that the moving parts are going to be its weakest link. However the mileage that you and Fan got represent failure in 10% of the sample (20 imported) size as the rifles reach 700-1000 rounds. Wasn’t planning on it but next weekend I’ll put a couple of tins trough it and let you know. If all goes well that should give me around 1100 rounds. I’m curious to know how many rounds Coda have through his. He’s been a one man army keeping the sparrow population in check. 😀
Well I am not worried about much else other than the valve stems but a few of us already cleaned Tony out of spares by getting a few extras. I figure I am good for 2000 more shots with spares on the 30 cal and the valve I have in it is now over 1000 shots and is on borrowed time at this point. KalibrGun fixes and rights (i.e. free replacement parts) any problems in a really big hurry I have noticed given the volume of guns they are selling and numbers of customers they now have. Valve stems are not something that the customer should be expected to have to improve upon because they are deficient. They are the very basic operations for the gun to function at all. This may be part of the reason why KalibrGun has delayed the .357 caliber.
I’m with you Brant, I think 900 rounds is too soon to be replacing stuff on a brand new gun, I hope Ed do something about this and backup his products! I love my .30 but I’m a little worry about getting parts and not be able to find them or get them when I need them.
Well even a 10% failure rate in most products in such a short time and usage would trigger a recall. In PCPs I would think it would merit free and better replacement valves as KalibrGun has done. The service level is definitely below KalibrGuns.
Has anybody other than Fanman and myself lost a 30 cal stem already so far ?? The average is starting to look like 900 rounds thus far but only two data points, That is a bit early !! Who’s next ??

Coda: I was concerned about how to retain the delrin seal to the face of the aluminum. Are those made with a step where they go back into the aluminum ?? Ernest was working on one in a post I just saw from a couple of months ago. He will likely do something nice
Here are the Crickets valves when I switched from the combo valve to the all metal. There is only a delrin impact sealing washer on the metal one.
Fan, How many shots on your 30 when it went ??? I think is is starting to look like a bit repeatable now, were gonna have to make a more robust version.
How critical is the ” spring ” tuning on the stem, simplest is to spin up a new delrin stem with a larger outside diameter spring guide, and a bit larger spring to match it and then neck it down to orig. where the tip goes into the aluminum guide hole.
I just ordered the material to make one or a few and do a little beta testing.
The original spring is: .975″ or 24.76mm long and slightly ground on both ends so most likely started life at 1″
4.7mm I.D. or .185″ and needs to be larger on the replacment, maybe .250″ or 6.35mm I.D.
Wire dia. on the original is .055″ or 1.4mm
Got the new springs ordered, 1″ long, .055 wire, .340 O.D. , I.D. is .230 we’ll see….want to sneak up on it and still modify the design the least.

I think the valve stem was just such a rare issue in prior models that it was reused as is but the 30’s may be taxing it harder.
