EdGun .30 Accuracy
Guys, how are the .30 Ed’s working out. Lots of reports on the .30 ED but nothing on the accuracy folks are getting. Is there something to be read into this?

This is a Pic of the 257420 Before milliong it down to a 54 grainer. It was accurate. I jsut can’t leave things alone! LOL!!! 🙄
Yes Doug, be glad to. So far, the 257420 Lyman 74 grain is doing very well for several of us. As is the 80 grain NOE Flat Point.
I milled down my molds, the 257420 now comes in at 54 grains, and ateh NOE at 60 grains. I just milled down Tufastfou’s mold, (NOE) to cast at 70 grains. He had already sent it out to Hollow-point service to have it converted to cast two of the 4 cavaties in nice looking hollow pointed bullets.
Cedric, (Tofas) has had super results with another profile as well. A spire point bullet.

I am looking forward to his results. My best group to date with the NOE was 3@ 80 yards measureing .090″. center to center. Basically a one hole’r.
I shot the gun the day before yesterday in fairly heavy wind, 20-25 MPH and it was still shooting nice little cloverleafs. Gotta Love-It! 😉
The photo is of a more realistic,and more typical group. Just after a barrel cleaning with a bronze brush wrapped with a patch.

Please note if you measure the metal stem to the plastic and not to the brass as I am in the photo that dim is 44.75 mm.

Can you share the specs of the ammo you are having the most success with in the .257 barrel, I talked with TJ’s yesterday and am ordering one of his barrels to do some testing.

People couldn’t wait to tell every one who would listen about the accuracy of both The FC Boss, and now The Bobcat. But the EDGun .30 ZIP!!! The .30 Wolverine is kinda a bust as to great accuracy.
I was really hopeing the ED would be the stellar front runner. 🙁

I can’t speak for others, but I thought you wanted 100yd accuracy reports and I haven’t had time to do that. I have taken exactly 8 shots at 100 yards with the .30, on a windy day, shooting off a backpack. 4 hit within 2 inches, the other 4 were off more, for maybe a 6 inch group overall for the 8 shots. Not great, but not bad, probably about the same or little better than my Wolverine under similar conditions. But (a) I haven’t had time to tune the gun, (b) it only has a few hundred peelets through it, and (c) I don’t shoot pellet guns at 100yds very much and the conditions were not very good. There just aren’t that many opportunities to shoot at 100 yards.
At 50 yards, the .30 is as good as my .22 and my .25 Matadors, and more consistant than my Wolverine.
I can add some light to why they break after 35 years of molding plastic. The recess made in the delrin for pressing the stainless pin with the crimped brass collar, takes too much meat away where the pocket gets close to the 4.45 mm stem/guide in the area that breaks. Just that simple.
If the middle section of it was 6 or 7 mm thick instead of 5 mm it could accommodate the pressed in brass portion without getting too thin and becoming frail.
I think another way of fixing this would be a new version of the stainless rod that extended down into the 4.45 mm area of the delrin beyond the brass portion and would give some additional torsional support and solve the problem by supporting the thin area.
I like options that allow the stem to remain lite weight. It seems to me that when working with valves that lite weight allows for higher performance thru better response to inputs. Might be a contributing factor to lower FPS shot spread, ?? Just like a high winding race engine likes light weight valves, they change direction more easily.

I also noticed the black area at the end of the delrin/plastic piece. Looked like it is rubbing against the spring or housing. Looked like nothing there to keep the spring from moving/vibration. Not the same design as the .22 or .25 for sure. I think the springs vibration killed the already weak valve stem.

John, unless I am wrong, you can see a dark ring towards the of the rear of the derlin end piece. That ring is where the rear of the derlin guide rests on the rear of the guide hole of the regulator plenum chamber housing guide.
Or whatever the hole in the housing guide should be called.
My 30 cal air valve rod spring doesn’t have a cup or a washer behind the spring.
Either Doug had a very early and pre mature air valve rod breakage or; this is something that Ed and or us 30 cal owners need to address and find a solution!
I drink a couple of glasses of Edgun Kool Aid daily but: 1,000 shots per 30 cal air valve rod is not acceptable!
PS: I hear you can get to the valve in other guns in 15 minutes, what could be easier, I had this out and measuring my stem in 5 minutes.

You said you it took you two shots and found out that you had a broken Valve stem?
When I had my .30 Matador apart, I notice a couples of things that are different than the .22 or the .25. The ..30 always going to have the extention chamber and the stem from the Matador is about the same or slightly longer than the .25. The .30 did not have the spring guide bucket. That piece guides the plastic rod though the hole in the next chamber. I think the plastic delrin is too short and may hit the housing instead of going through the hole.
If you had the regulator housing disassembled for some reason, when you reinstall the valve, make sure to push the metal valve stem against a hard surface to open the valve. That way you can assure that the plastic delrin is cleared of the hole.
Can you inspect the end of the plastic delrin to see if there is any impact marking? Look at the chamber to see if there are any plastic /metal marking?
We want to know why it broke?.more investigation please.

Believe me; I really want to have the opportunity to shoot some 100 yard groups!
You were crying because your temps got down in to the 20s and you had some ice and snow. We have had a LOT of snow and the wind chill factors are supposed to be in the minus 20s until late Tuesday afternoon. Be patient; Grasshopper! 😆
The stock air valves are not a problem to get from Tony. He has always had them in stock when I ordered them. I currently have 5 here, just in case.
Bebtm, I like the looks of your valve! Especially the way that you have the area in front of the derlin sealing part turned down for more air flow! I am wondering if your rod might be a little heavy compared to the stock rod. More info please!
Doug, I would like to buy some air valves that had a stepped stainless steel rod that went all of the way thru the derlin parts. What I have in mind has the rear of the SS rod turned down some, the stock brass part in front of the derlin sealing piece then slides onto the turned down part and bumps up against the larger front part of the rod.
Doing that would keep the derlin sealing part from moving forward and the full length SS rod should stop the breakage. The rear of the rod would still have the sealing surface and spring guide made out of derlin and would just be slid over the turned down rear of the SS rod.
If the front part of the SS rod needs to have a larger OD than the stock rod, there is room to have the front brass screw air valve rod guiding part opened up some for the larger OD of the new rod.
I talked to my machinist about making what I had in mind. We were going to use a SS drill rod for the air valve rod. I didn’t have any made as I thought that 7,500-10,000 shots on a 25 cal rod before breakage was acceptable to me.
On the other hand, 1,000 shots before breakage on the 30 cals is something that needs to be addressed. I still plan on going to the AOA Extreme Bench Rest this year. I will take my 30 cal R3 long and my modified .257 cal R3 ex 25 long to the event. The .257 is going to be at least as hard on the air valve rod as the 30 cal is and I would hate to break a rod in the middle of a 30 minute 25 shot card!
The AOA shoot is 9 months away and I am sure that we will have something figured out way before then!

Are you jGuy’s telling me that this little piece of plastic and tiny rod are standard fair in the EdGun? Is this The part people are telling me breaks and cost 30 bucks “IF you can even get one??? WTF, looks like an all of 2.00 usd part. WTF???
