Raptor On Order….
I am on the waiting list for the next shipment of Raptors (Omega is identical but different label). After much research I was surprised by the numbers that have been purchased or ordered since early last year (near 50). 😯 In the last few days I have pinged a few folks that have anywhere from 80-120 hours on them and they have been performing admirably. The main issues been shipping or weather (freezing in the warehouse before antifreeze was added) related on several. I will probably run it for a month or so before I consider selling the original Shoebox I have. The Shoebox has performed very well for about 2.5 years and I only replaced the orings once. 😉
The actual speed folks are reporting has been more like 3-4x an F8 but not near a small Bauer or Airtex where the models are near 10x faster. About 45 minutes to top off a 88 cu ft tank from 3000 to 4500 for the Raptor and 25 minutes for my 44 cu ft SCBA tanks which take about 3 hours with the original Shoebox. I also researched used Bauer’s and Airtex (also Chinese) but they start around the $2500 mark if available and most I found were pretty heavily used for paintball and had other issues.

Prior to getting Dyotat’s build, pumping w/ a Hill hand pump was not a problem, easy for me. But Dyotat’s using larger tanks which are slower to fill, so the testing process is slowed, mostly on the slug .25, which uses more air. A Ranger is on the horizon, and that’s an air glutton.
The Omega looks like a better choice for a really small house. Not keen on the pile of spaghetti associated w/ a shoebox/regular compressor combo.
It’s crazy humid out here, so the adjustable water bleed timer sounds great.
Too bad I don’t have a cat; I’d love to see what would happen when the water bleed goes off .

Just got a UPS notification that a package is enroute for Monday delivery. Doesn’t say who it’s from but it does say that it weighs 78 lbs. Unless Hemn packed himself in a box and shipped himself to me, I think it’s the Omega compressor. Thank god it didn’t say 200 lbs, we all know that’s Hoot’s one legged mistress.
I noticed that yours is missing the air/water separation control. How does it do that function?

The raptor is more beautiful with the carbon color, but it’s the same fonctions.
My GUANGXING COMPRESSOR is verry nice to feel 300 bars.

They have you check the coolant level but it had been topped off and the unit tested before it arrived. It has not leaked anything and has stay filled so far. There is very little vibration when the compressor is running. Noise wise it sounds like an old time washing machine. I was on the phone about five feet away when it was running w/o a problem. I use a headset, on the other hand, for my Shoebox original. It is loud. I ended up putting the Omega in the laundry room since it has a very small footprint with the cover on it when not in use.
Have you added any coolant since it’s been in operation and is there much vibration ? This might be a good replacement for my FX electric compressor if it ever stops working.
Parts are readily available from AOA and most components look very easy to replace. The moisture collection is on the high pressure side (exit) and you adjust a timer as to how often it will discharge the moisture and the duration from a port on the side. I have mine set to discharge moisture every 25 minutes for 1/2 second. In a more humid climate you can increase that but there is a very small loss of pressure when it happens. The discharge is a blast of air/moisture. Filling inside my house I didn’t really notice any moisture coming out when it opens but it did scare the crap out of me the first time when I wasn’t ready for it. It’s kind of like opening the bleed valve but automatic.
it is relatively compact and portable. It has a large folding handle on top for carrying even though it is about 80 lbs. I can see taking this on a trip since it is 110v. Everything you need comes with it to start filling immediately and inside the box including the hose with female Foster. It’s relatively fast compared to the Shoebox but sill slow enough to fill a gun directly. It’s really enough compressor for 3-4 folks to share IMO.
Is there a moisture trap on the exit side, or just on the air intake?
Any idea how easy the Raptor would be to fix, get parts?

I noticed Álvaro’s Raptor’s gauge had the glycerin in it. It’s not really needed on these units – the needle is pretty steady.
Got my Raptor/Omega from AOA at the end of April. Ran it for about 10 hours then had a problem with the pressure gauge. Gauge started reading increasingly high when bled down.
Called AOA and they had a replacement gauge out the same day. Unfortunately, there seem to be two variants of the the gauge, one that is dry and has about a 9mm air fitting and an oil filled one the has a larger one. I had the dry one and they shipped the oil filled one. Not a big problem (the compressor guru wasn’t there that day and I had a Shoebox). I called them about the incorrect gauge and they had the correct gauge out the same day. AOA called and emailed me about the shipment, sent me a return shipping tag and did a followup call to make sure that the problem was fixed. I have 10 more hours on it now and everything seems to be good. Things do break, but AOA’s customer service to me, at least, has been outstanding. Note that there also seem to be two shutoff switch variants, one with both shutoff switches enabled and the one I got with one switch wired.

I just read that Jim Chapman took a Raptor compressor to South Africa to use for their Safari and then left it for future trips with the outfitter. That sounds like a fun trip.
