Q:

New RAW .357…Pics and some data….

Just the basics to fill the recent void of the NEW RAW 357…..

The gun is built on the New HM1000x action…. The action is “DEDICATED” for the JSB .35 Pellets and Magazine… the receiver is NOT Interchangeable with other RAW Magazines. Additionally it has a “HIGH POWER” spring set in it…. the Side cocking leaver makes it a joy to operate.

Additionally the HM1000x .357 sports a Aluminum LDC

The newer .35 JSB pellets are actually listed as 81 grain pellets… and have a much cleaner look to them. When I shot the original prototype gun earlier in the year the pellets were not a crisp looking. What I can say is…. they Shoot as good as they look!!

The magazine holds a wopping seven 81 grain pellets…. for a total of 567 grains of lead !!!!!

As mentioned in a previous thread… the HM1000x .357 will be offered in 2 configurations…..
REGULATED …. which seems I deal for the 81 grain Pellets…. and UNREGULATED for the Heavier cast pellet / Bullets.

As mentioned in the thread title….. SOME DATA….
Over the weekend I got the opportunity of a lifetime to shoot with Martin Rutterford and his NEW HM1000x .357.. AND I put it through its paces!!!!
We started approx 9:30am and ended at 4:00 ish… I did manage to pry the gun out of may hands for a few minutes to eat lunch!!!!!

OK… here are a few numbers… as mentioned before… I am not a hunter… but I have been shooting
Benchrest for about 3 years… I will say I wouldn’t rule it for being able to win a competition…(in the right hands)…..

If you are a Pig or Coyote or any thing smaller….HIDE NOW!!!!!!

now the data..

Regulated Version:

Muzzle velocity 81gr – 740 fps……. Velocity @75 yrds – 630 fps…..Velocity @100yrds – 596 fps

UN-Regulated Version (127gr Cast .356 dia)

Muzzle velocity 127gr – 670 fps…… Velocity @75 yrds – 618 fps …. Velocity @ 100 yards – 600 fps

…and before you do the Math… 127gr cast have 100 FPE of Energy at 100 YARDS….and the batch I
tested Fly as Straight as an ARROW !!!!!! (actually 101.55fpe….but who is counting)

…… Now for those that are interested…. here is a Photo of the Current Batch of RAW HM1000X currently being processed…..

Still working on a complete review…. with ALL the data !!!!!

As I offered before…. I will have the gun out for anyone to try it at this weekend Phoenix Airgun Benchrest Match….

I hope you enjoyed the Pics……

Dear Rossall,

The 750 FPS does not bother me in regards to “lobbing” the pellets toward the target/game. I have restricted all my PCPs to 700 fps (25.4 grain pellets) (for consistency and shot count.) Making head shots on a variety of game out to 50 yards is no problem.

What does bother me is the Decibel Reading of over 100 DBs with a silencer attached. == that is too loud in my book of stealth hunting and too loud to shoot in my back yard. I have ordered the RAW .357 and I am on the 8 weeks waiting list at RAW. Now I am worried the rifle will be too loud for me, even with the long silencer (if your DB readings are the same as my sound meter at 103 DBs)

@ Rossall,, Was the rifle you tested “back yard friendly” in regards to how loud you felt it was with the silencer?

What a PITA! Like you don’t have enough to do already! Grrrrrr!!! 👿

It varies from tin to tin also. I have seen some in the 47 gr area.
I did some some from one tin when Cedric was here and I had 3 piles. Low was 44.2 and high was 45.8. Then I shot them and there is the reason for the 15 fps spread I see. Light ones shoot 900-904 fps and heavy ones are down to 890 fps.

I have 20 tins or so so I will check a few more tins and see if it’s worth separating them in .3 gr differences.

I have a few tins of JSB and FX labelled .30s (same pellet) and have weighed of a few tins also.. the red JSBs labelled 44.75gr range from 44.60gr to 45.10gr so not too bad the FX tins are labelled 46.30gr and range from 44.17gr and 44.62gr.. strange how they label the FX with a heavier weight, I’m guessing its due to the fact Sweden is a metric country and the just rounded the labels weight up to an even 3 grams.

I hope this is a case of “we need to put out as much product as possible, right now… we can fix the problems later”… and the pellets will get better. Seeing as how no one other than JSB makes a .30.

2 to 3 grains differences??? Not tenths of grains, but GRAINS??? WTF, How in hell can they be that far off with swaged pellets? Heck, our Cast bullet we make are “NO WHERE NEAR” that far off. 2-3 tenths at worst once you learn how to cast properly.

How could JSB be putting out such a product? Un-real!!!

Maybe if they weren’t putting a Korean barrel on a gun that is made in the USA. Sad that instead of finding a barrel made here they choose to go over seas.

My .30 is good and I’m hoping the .357 will be the same or better. It will be shooting around 900 fps though.

That is pretty sad… They could have just used the TJ barrel- the work is done, and I think (other than the bad pellets) the .30 would be a bit better performing in a Rapid/RAW receiver… I think the .30 is possibly the limit, unless of course you’re using a SUMO2 receiver 😈

2 grains is a lot!

And lets not forget the name of the JSB pellets!

EXACT’s my ASS……….lol!

With the way these pellets vary, they could sell 25 – 26 – and 27 gr pellets without ever switching tooling.

Aren’t pellets SWAGGED anyways?

I have weighted out over 5 tins of the JSB 30 cal pellets. I was getting over 2gr difference in them from the low to high weight. I sorted them into .3gr tins. I haven’t had a chance to shoot for accuracy to see if sorting them helps. I can’t see how 2gr difference would not throw off accuracy.

Bummer! You would think with all the years of making them they could make a decent accurate pellet on a consistent basis! Grrrrr!!!

Knife,

Doug is “ANTI” LW….lol! Its a TJ’s 30. Also, with ST twist barrels, AVAILABILITY?! WHERE ARE THEY?! Do they exist beside on and FX gun? 220 bucks for a smooth barrel with rifling STAMPED/PRESSED on the last couple a inches?! AOA monopolizing them? NO THANKS! :angrymob:

Also, many moons ago, i sorted and weighed 2 tins of Kodiak “MATCH” pellets vs the Kodiak standard pellet. I can for sure tell you, the MATCH pellets were all over the place and the Kodiak standards were all within a few tenths of a grain of one another. I was piss cause of all the “HYPE” from others swearing on the MATCH versions. Oh yeah, and my Rapid DID NOT and still WILL NOT shoo the Match Kodiaks better than the Standard one. So, it doesn’t surprise me about pellet to pellet inconsistencies. Seems like its not every tin. It more like a luck of the draw sorta thing. When i had DAVE G’s 30 cal TAC gun, i had the same issue with inconsistent 30 pellets

quote Tofazfou:

I wonder what the extreme spread in weight of those pellets are? I just went to Dougs yesterday and he has 30’s and 35 cal JSB’s. The 30’s were ALL OVER THE PLACE and pushed past 1 grain difference between any 2 pellets. The 35 cal JSB were actually damn consistent and Doug were in awe (slightly) at the under 7/10th’s of a grain between like 10 different pellets. They went from like 80.2 up to 80.9 and a few more hit right in the center of this measurement. Non were OVER 81 grs or even 81 grs.

WOW!!! Thats a “LOT”. With such wide variances in weight, and the problems with the barrels available, it’s discouraging to say the least!

So far, the Smooth Twist, and the L/W’s in the
wolverine are the only ones giving a good showing.

Cedric, was that a standard LW barrel, or a TJ forged bbl.? I kinda had hopes for them.

Makes me wonder why the .30’s aren’t as consistent?
