Is THIS what you call good Whiskey ?
A friend from US just came over for a Vacation. He knows i like Whiskey ( Scotch, Irish and Japanese ) so he bought me “one of the finest from US”. Oh Boy … I’ve been over there countless of times and during many of those visits i’ve come to this final conclusion :
A : You guys don’t know the difference between Whiskey and Terpentine.
B : You just TRY to fool the Tourists to think that you do. You just name it ” Kentucky “.
C : You’re all too drunk to know the difference between Whiskey and …. I don’t know what.
Now – i urge you all to go to your local, friendly dealer of alcohol and tell them that THIS 
Is NOT accepted for Human consumption.
While OK for …. Desinfection ( if it isn’t the reason for many ) it sure as hell isn’t Whiskey.
Now: i haven’t trued this magical elixire for barrel cleaning yet but i’m pretty sure the good old German snake oil called Ballistol beats it at that too …

Yeah, that’s also why you don’t see as much 15+ year aged bourbon as you do scotch. Since bourbon is aged in new oak barrels, the longer aged bourbons often pick up too much of the strong oak flavors, so most of the time folks consider the best age for bourbon to be in the 10-12 year range. The downside is that it often has more burn than an older scotch.

Well, the “lower end” part is definitely accurate. I think it’s the “best” in the same way that McDonald’s is the best hamburger. Cheap, fast and you know exactly what it is. I’m guessing that’s not Sir Ville’s criteria.
Well, i have mostly heard of jack daniels described as the best of the lower end of whisky,
maker’s mark of course as already said being much better, and pricey of course.

Yeah, my navy SEAL bud gave me a bottle last time I got married 11 years ago. I remember it being a pretty good whiskey!
Good stuff indeed. Has that Vanilla-ish aftertaste too , usually found on good Single Malts.

I didn’t go all the way through this thread but I can add something some here may or not be unaware of…
ever wonder when you read “Blended” on a bottle of Canuck Whiskey just what that means ?
it refers to Charcoal filtered extra hard Spirits in the 150+ proof range blended with filtered…wait for it, GRAPE JUICE !
It’s very easy to set up a vertical filled with activated Charcoal, let it sit over night than slowly drain and blend/mix with filtered grape juice. let steep a few days and your worst rot gut is as smooth as the best the Canucks offer
Shit I used to do a similar process with nasty 190 proof Everclear diluting it on down with highly filtered Grape juice and sweet clover honey that when drop tested at 120 proof was a serious panty remover when I was in the University.
Back when I was really big into it I was buying cases of Generic Everclear…came in a Liter bottle marked “Alcohol”…LOL
Girlfriend salvaged bottles from the club she managed to repackage the devils spirit in
mind you I still keep a well stocked liquor cabinet for company but even they would rather sample my home brew liqour and blends
almost everyone seems to prefer my kitchen counter blends and diffusions
