Q:

odd regulating on this Short, whats your Es looking like?

I finally got around to putting some time in with the Short and my chronograph. Right off the bat I the first three shots were up around 870 fps. I didn’t want it that hot, so I loosened the set screw and used the steel pins to lower the HS tension.This turned out to be a frustrating exercise. Lots of air and several magazines later, I decided to refill the gun to 200 bar, and see what it gave me. I only shot two magazines before I quit.
high = 831
low = 794.9
Es = 36.36
Sd = 9.05

This result in 24 shots is certainly far off what Keyser’s sample got. Anyone else tested their new TGAG Mutant Short with different or better results? So much for tiny holes at 9 yards.

From your pictures and from what you told us darryl.

You have a genuine CZub barrel was originally machined to fit an AAS200 or a cz200

the indent between the scope rail and action at 7 o’clock and the fact that it has what you call a tight choke pretty much seals it.

Not sure who’s telling u different ….

And just so you know and everyone else. The barrels made in the Czech for peter are not choked.

So darryl my friend someone is playing you.

Totally Agree +100%

That is very odd. They should cut it to factory spec, doesn’t matter what kind of barrel they put in, because you purchase a shorty and it should be a shorty. Everything should be identical except “Cz” made vs. “CZUB” made. I am sending my German/Korea barrel and cocking lever back to Petr on Monday, and wondered if I will receive the Cz made barrel like yours.

Endo

Dman,
thanks for the info about the hammer spring. I hope the gun gets sorted out. It seems to be a no-go on the barrel being cut to spec. I can’t recall all of why that is, so I can’t tell you accurately what was told to me. The length is not as much a game-killer for me as the odd performance. Still, one day maybe Listone barrel, and be done with it.
Darryl

Tell them to stuff that dam barrel up there ass.

I’d make them pay someone to fix it. That is straight bullshit you bought a shorty …. that would take All of maybe 45 mins to cut that shoulder back drill new t port and a dimple for the alignment. … then cut the inlead .

And to think you paid extra for that. You would be better off with the korean barrel. Cause the manufacture is gonna be sending new CZ barrels to replace them here shortly

Darryl …..

The Mutant standard and the shorty both take the same spring. And yes it is a heavy duty spring… The mutant has no preload at all.

more than likely something is going on with the regulator.

did you tell them to cut your barrel to factory specs ? ….

Endo, I removed the hammer spring, and I have to say it is a very stiff one, one of the stiffest I’ve ever seen in a PCP. I wonder if the spring is even the right one for the gun. I have no clue, of course, but my FPS test at full spring compression was interesting. I have to back the HST off until the sear would engage again, and when it did, the gun produced over 1000fps. I think Dman said the gun should not be shooting that hard. I’ve tuned PCPs that had springs which overpowered the air valve, and presented a real ski-slope of a shot string. These were unregulated airguns. In two cases I cut coils to reduce all pre-loading, then began adjusting the HST until I had relatively flat shot strings. Anyway, I wonder if that spring came from a Mutant Standard. It would explain a lot to me if it did.

It’s all moot now because tomorrow at the earliest the gun gets shipped back to Petr’s place. I’ve been in contact with his assistant who will take personal ownership of the correction. I’d called Joe earlier about the issue, and he had assured me someone would call me. I have to say I’m impressed with this level of customer service. These guys are all really trying hard to do right by the community. I can do no less than to give them a fair shot at it.Stay tuned. 🙂

Darryl,
Keep us posted on how it goes.

Dman, and Endo thanks for the replies. Endo thanks for taking the time to post your analysis of my results. I’ll do as you suggest and test the gun for maximum FPS, and work back from there. BTW, can I assume that taking off the HS adjuster gives me access to the hammer spring for removal?
Darryl

Yes darryl… loosen the Allen key .. stick.the 2 pins in and unscrew..

The hammer spring should drop out… if you tip the gun up.

So find out where the gun is shooting best and then work from there…

Will do. thank you again for the supporting tips.

Darryl, I finally got a time to analyze your data. The SD is about two times higher than normal. The max spread is also 2 times higher. The strings do look a bit strange, but consistent. The gradual fall in speed may indicate the HST is too high. I don’t know what is the max speed you can get with your current regulator setting. Can you find out the max speed by gradually increasing HST until the speed can’t increase more? You need to balance the reg and HST. I don’t know what pressure was set in your regulator. Find out the max speed and it may give you some idea what HST should be set. Shot the gun at 96-98% max speed is believe to be the most stable performance. You said the reg is off (speed drops significantly) after 30 shots… is this correct? My gun can reach at least 45 shots from 220 to 130 bars, and is about 1.8 to 2.0 bar per shot. But you got 30 shots from 210 to 160 bar, which is 1.67 bar per shot and a very good air efficiency, but you only have 30 shots. Since Joe has reserved a barrel for you, I would suggest to replace the barrel with correct TP alignment. If the issue is not solved, then you will need to check on the function of the regulator and its setting. I would suggest send the gun to Dman, he will make your gun right. Good luck.

Endo

Darryl with the Extra barrel length Your gun should be slinging the 18.1s at around 830 fps… ( they say 10 fps for every inch)

I would expect 30 – 32 shots at that speed from a 220 bar fill. Your gun really needs to go to someone that knows what they are doing and has the proper tools.
