Hello,
Last week, I became the proud owner on an Altaros Booster. And I am extremely pleased with it!
Altaros’ Customer Care/After Sales is also very pleasesant, direct and efficient.
Upon request they created an “alternative” set-up for only Euro 15,- extra. Let me explain…
As most PCP air rifle users, I like to keep my tanks topped up to 300 BARs (4500 psi). But after a while I always end up with a few airtanks with pressures of around 150 – 180 BARs. I asked if I could use the Altaros Booster to use this “leftover” air in certain tanks to increase pressure other tanks back to 300 BAR. Altaros did some expiriments and replied that with a simple rearrangement of some existing tubes and one extra tube, this could be done. The low pressure compressor is, in this constellation, only used to drive the Altaros Booster Unit. The air supplied comes from of a tank with medium pressure, externally regulated down to 80-90 BAR and inserted directly in the highpressure side of the Altaros Booster.
The efficiency is remarkable… Inevitable losses are only 10% to 15%!!! I was able to top up three smaller bottles back to 300 BARS, using the 190 BAR left in a large bottle. The pressure in this bottle is now lowered to 100 BARs, while all my other air reservoirs now back at 300 BARs.
The low pressure compressor does not need to be large and can even be relatively quiet.
I then rewired the Altaros Booster Unit to its original configuration and filled the large bottle back up from 100 to 300 BARs. This took a bit longer, given the fact that my low pressure compressor does not possesses a large capacity. But I got there in the end using the recommended 60/40 runtime of the LC.
Needless to say, I am extremely happy with the Altaros Booster Unit, the knowledge of the Altaros engineers, their superb service and can only highly recommend this product!

I just got my Altaros. It has a built in water/oil filter but I personally would not trust just that. The Altaros guys say it fine but I live in a humid climate so I want to be extra safe. I have a Sharpe F88 filter for general water and oil removal on my main air system in my shop but also ordered a DeVilbiss QC3 filter from Ebay for $150 delivered. I’m in the body shop business and my paint rep really bragged on the DeVilbiss. I’ll be using the DeVilbiss exclusively on the Altaros. With that being said, I filled both my SCBA tanks today with only the F88 filter and there was not a single drop of water in the Altaros filter. The Altaros runs so cold, mine actually gets colder the longer it runs, that I don’t see any need for a high side filter. My shop was 75 degrees today and the Altaros was 68 degrees after filling both my SCBA cylinders. It took 1 hour and 40 minutes to go from 3400 to 4500. I have a 2 stage, 240 volt, 5 hp, 50 gallon compressor that is hard plumbed into my work shop.
Did you decide on a compressor? The HF is definitely the best choice on the list you had. The bigger tank is going to work much better as the compressor will run much less.
Other than the compressor and an auxiliary filter if you choose to get one, you should be good to go as Altaros supplies everything else with the booster.
After I order the Altaros compressor booster are there othe accessories I need to purchase to get going I would be using it to fill my Tiger Shark Tank .
This is what I currently see as my locally available choices in compressors that are less than $400.
1- Harbor Freight 29 gal tank 5.9 cfm at 90 psi $359.00
2- Makita. 6.6gal tank 6.5 cfm at 90 psi $349.00
3- Husky. 4.0 gal tank 5.1 cfm at 90 psi $279.00
4- DeWalt. 4.5 gal tank 5.0 cfm at 90 psi $299.00
The nice ones at Lowes were around $450 that’s more than I want to spend
On numbers 2-4 I get a veterans 10% discount at Home Depot
From the 4 and if I understood Papa Shultz correctly the Harbor Freight unit will cycle the least as the storage tank is the largest. I know I would then adjust the output of the compressor to keep it running 60% of the time to maximize the power to the booster and the 40% rest to allow the compressor to cool down.Would the larger output of Makita make it as good a choice as the Harbor Freight? The other 3,have a similar sized tank I could get a 6 gallon supplemental tank and use it to boost capacity of the smaller units that would cost another $50.00. As far as quality of the units go even though some of these may be assembled in the USA the parts can be from anywhere.
Is the dryer that’s built into the Altaros adequate for supplying dry air to my tank? I will have one of the glass/ plastic water/ oil separators petween the new compressor and the Booster. I like to see if I could save on not getting one of those $200 to $400 high pressure air dryers as the people at Altaros told me that it wasn’t needed. But I see on other post people are still using them.
Hello Brian,
Tank size determines duration of the on-off cycles of your compressor. As you might know, the compressor fills the tank up to a certain pressure, then shuts off. Air is now delivered from the pressurized tank until the pressure falls below a certain level. The compressor then starts again topping up the tank, and so on…
The bigger the tank the longer the running periods but also the pauses, leading to 3 advantages
1) allowing your compressor to cool down a bit and preventing overheating
2) saving electric power, as a running motor consumes less than a starting motor
3) having longer periods without noise.
I see Harbor Freight has a 29 gal 2 hp for $359.00 I think is rated 5.9 at 90#. I’ll be watching some YouTube to see what others say about it. One idea if I made a manifold and used 2 compressors together my old little one plus new one . Would something like that be worthwhile the main downside is the noise. I guess I can always put the old one on Craig’s list. Considering I’m a one man user and I only have one 71 cf tank maybe the regulator 4500# compressor is overkill for my needs and the Altaros functionally is my best choice. I’ll get back to more research and then decide what to do I’m not in a great rush since I have the paint ball store for fill ups. I went there yesterday and his system was only able to give me 4000#. Not the greatest but it will do till I get my setup. As far as the drier goes I will probably get that high pressure cartridge unit similar to what air tank for sale has I just don’t have the $400 that they get for it, and I’ve read mixed reviews if that gold colored component is even needed, I think a simple valve on the output side will have the same affect.
Some recent news, I went to home depot and saw the following compressors that are in my budget to go along with getting the Altaros booster for $349 they have 1-Mikita mac5200 it’s 3 hp 6.5 cfm at 90psi with a 6.6 gallon air tank 2- $279 a Husky 4 gallon 225 psi 5.1 scfm @90psi 3- Dewalt 200 psi4.5 gallon 5 cfm @90 psi I understand the need for a higher cfm rating for the Altaros to perform at a better level but I don’t know the importance of the size of the tank on the compressor.
Brian, I did not add the high pressure dryer on the back side. I’m relying on my equipment (drying tower and 3 stage filter) on the front side to remove the moisture. Maybe overkill but the drying tower was abandoned at work so I put it to good use and the 3 stage filter was from ebay. There is also a inline moisture indicator for about $100 that could be added for additional monitoring on the high pressure side.
As far as shop compressors, the bigger the better on both flow volume and storage size. Ideally, you need the larger storage tank for longer off times on your shop compressor. Imagine that your tank was only 1gal. Your compressor would have very short on cycles but very short off cycles as well, constantly kicking on and off. I had been needing a better shop compressor anyway so that made my decision a little easier. When you have only one or two tanks to just top off I didn’t see the need for a full blown 4500# compressor that would fill my tanks in five minutes. If it takes my Alaros a couple of hours I’m good with that.

You confirmed what I thought . So if I add a new compressor to the cost it will be another 300 to 400’dollars vs 1500 for a regular entry level compressor. The Altaros will then be around $1000 for a system. I got to make up my mind and make a decision. I just don’t know what is best. The most important thing will be to get a unit that is the most dependable and one that will last I can’t repeat this kind of expense yearly.
A few more questions with the Altaros you don’t need an oiless compressor is that correct, the air drier water remover at the compressor output is it adequate or do you need to add a Oil removal filter. Have you also added one of those high pressure cartridge driers between the Altaros and you tank. I know the Altaros team doesn’t seem to think it’s needed but I would feel better I think if I had one. I guess I’ll be compressor shopping
I just checked at Home Depot web site for $349 – 6.5 @90 5.3 gal tank, $379- 5.0 @90’4.5 gal tank, $395 5.5@ 90 15 gal tank . I understand CFM number @90 but is the tank capacity important.
Brian, I don’t think yours has enough volume or storage capacity. Mine is a 30gal Husky from Home Depot and it does the 60/40 on/off cycle pretty easily even at 125-155 output pressure. It’s rated at 6.2scfm @ 40psi and 5.3@ 90psi, 1.6hp. It’s a little louder than I thought it would be but easily bearable.

I thinking about purchasing this Altaros booster. The question I have is can my compressor handle it. I have a Husky 4 gallon model H1504ST it goes up to 155 lb. 3.5 scam at 40psi or 2.8 scam at 90 psi. If I should go for a new compressor what is the best one for the money and if there is a quieter unit I don’t mind spending a bit more. I have the 71 ft Tiger Shark Tank.
Because we continually strive to improve as the booster compressor and also user awareness about Compressor function , we partnered with Mekanizmalar and let him create this animation video, which should further clarify the principle and function of our booster compressor. I want to thank Mr. Seyhan Ersoy for very good handling on this animation video.

Happy new year

At 250. usd, it is much cheaper than it alternatives. As in 175 usd less, and comes with fittings and a fill whip. Which could be very useful if wanting to fill a separate bottle while using the other for shooting. (Nothing like filling one bottle while using the other on the bench!)
The Walls of the unit are very thick and the machining of threads are very nice indeed. I’m impressed with the quality.
It uses the same cartridge as the Joe B. unit so it is well known. Nothing else needs saying about it. If you have good water separators, and desiccant filters on the Low side, it should last a a very good while using The Altaros or Shoe Box. 8)
I’m really liking this filter with is super heavy duty construction. It is rated at 6000 psi and is fully tested with UK certification.
This is really worth checking out as it truly is a fine piece of workmanship.
A very Good Buy in my opinion! 😉

There was few customers which asked us how to rebuild our Altaros compressor booster so they could boost pressure with different inert gas from one bottle to other. So we made video how to do it .
