Putting together a shoot
I read the P.A. report almost daily. I was wondering if there was any interest in putting together a A.F. guns or any airguns shoot? I know were all scattered all over, so i’m just throwing this out there to see who’s where. I know Adam is down south somewhere (where are you Adam? L.A.?) I’m in Merced,CA. which is in the central valley, two hours south of Sac., one hour north of Fresno, two hours east of (Heaven aka Monterey) the coast. Two hours west of Y.N.P. I’d be more than willing to drive two hours in any direction if we could put something together. Is there any interest?

You know, that’s a GOOD idea. I’m gonna call the local game warden too.
Seems like those guys who want to walk along and look for GS can have at it, those who want to target shoot could go to that spot and not interfere with the hunters?
FWIW, when I am going to be pest shooting on a farm in view of the highway I call the Sheriff’s dispatcher and tell ’em I’m going to be out hunting *with airguns*. It can save some scary times later on and a useless expense of LEO resources responding to yuppies with cell phones. I have a friend who got confronted by several cops with drawn guns one time, he didn’t like it much.

Well Doug the place i go for squirrels isn’t real conducive to target shooting. That being said i have set up targets many times out there too. We’re talking about a country road out in the middle of BFE that has a fairly decent amount of squirrels. BUT it’s also a fairly long road, what we usually do is stop every couple miles, get out and walk the road for opportunities. I do know of a nice spot to set out some targets but there are no squirrels at that particular spot. The other thing is depending on how many of us were to show up, could cause some ranchers to shit themselves (lol would almost be funny) and call the county mounty in. Like i said i’ve spoken to them and they’re good guys they just want to make sure you’re careful and know what you’re doing. Most still consider pellet guns toys.
Why can’t we do both?
I don’t know about you, but I take targets into the field with me. Not only do I usually check zeros before expecting exacting shots on small game, but when it gets real slow (sometimes even when it’s not) I’ve been known to set a few out to amuse myslef.
If game is possibly available I suggest maybe that’s a good start? For sure it’s likely to draw folks that wouldn’t come out for targets alone.

The last time I went out there it was slim pickens. We saw a few but not much. Now, I have a spot (more like a stretch of road) in Mariposa county about 20 miles east of Merced, that has some decent opportunities. My buddy and I are planning to go there today. I’ve spoken with the local sheriff deputies out there and as long as you stay off private property, your ok. Off topic but Mickey Fowler lives out there. (any body know who he is?) Off the top of your head. After Google gets you half the points. Are we more interested in shooting live squirrels or targets?
Go for SS. If you got a place in Merced with live targets{grugees aka ground squirrels} lets do it.
There! Now that i’ve cleaned the F’n pepsi off my keyboard from Wok and Nuglors love fest. Back to business. When and where are we going to put this together? Livermore? Los Banos? Where? Like i’ve said before, i’m in BFE but willing to drive two hours in any direction. Also, IF there was enough interest, I could ask my boss if he’d be willing to host a shoot here in Merced.
Double post…..must make up for at least one of those others I screwed up that never made it…..

Of course Berkeley still has People’s Park. They might not fill the potholes, but a national monument is another matter…… Seems to me like the folks that live there have changed some over time, more hopeless than before?
Ah, Banana Slugs! University of California at Santa Cruz is in a lovely coastal redwood forrest….complete with huge Banana Slugs……it’s their mascot too.

Ah yes, Beserkely, I remember it well, I think. Last time I was there, they had just bricked up the windows in the Bank of America. As I remember, nice little college town, with a real cute little park. Do they still have “Peoples Park”? No matter, here in Prunetucky, we have two colleges close by to visit. Got to love those fighting Otters and my favorite” the Fighting Banana Slugs”. Hey has any ever been charged by a “bull” Banana Slug, nasty ordeal.
Yup, great place indeed, some of the folks that live there need a little work IMO. Lots of strange and self serving ideas about what others should say and do. Demands that others change their values, life styles and give their money up ‘for the better good’ and all. Birthplace of PC thinking, you know. Being a liberal from anywhere else doesn’t mean you’ll fit in. Being a socialist isn’t enough for most of them…….
The weather is just as good a few miles out and people much easier to get along with. I worked there for 18 years, but only managed to live there six months (as an adult).
They can have Berkeley, you can hardly drive through town with all the blocked off streets (they no longer have solid barricades, they have pipes sticking up out of the street so you can’t drive down them, but the garbage trucks can still get down, seems the ‘neighborhood’ didn’t like paying extra for garbage removal). Nor can you find a place to park in many areas, only the locals are allowed to park on the streets (they get permits for their cars…..). ‘Visitors’ (that’s citizens from other areas) get tickets…..hey, they shouldn’t be driving cars anyway, right? “Worker’s paradise” indeed. ‘cept most of ’em don’t want to work….they just want you to and send them the money. Oh, yeah, your job has to be ‘eco friendly’, give full benefits and not ask for Green Cards…….
Yup, that’s the place all right.
Good food, though.
Let’s go shooting….someplace else.

Well actually in Berkeley……different issues there you know.
Sorry to disappoint, I’m just not that kind of sailor……I just found the hat.

I’ve been in Berkeley. It sure is a nice little town, I miss it alot. I remember going swimming in the Claremont’s pool. Berkely is a very nice area.
Oh isn’t that sweet. You are hand picking them yourself 😛
How about this…. “You wanna go to the dance? You can crawl up my leg and have a ball”….LOL
WOK & Harry having a ball! 😆 😆 😆

Never done that part, but it seems like a good idea as well. Remeber when you call, all the potential hunters have their Hunting Licenses…….
You might ask him if he has any suggestions for you as well. I recall somewhere hearing about a Warden giving a referral to a shooter looking for a place to hun, seems the owner had called the Warden as the property was too close to houses (150 yards) and roads and the Warden still had the contact info on his desk.
For sure I get a big ‘Thank you’ from the dispatchers when I call and warn them.
Good luck. And thanks for trying to set this up.
