Q:

Fish Bone Frame insert

I wanted something that could give me more spaces than drilling circles so I’m trying slots instead – Once one side is done, will turn it over and do the otherside. Hopefully my reasoning for the fishbone name is obvious.

I cant decide between just continuing with the current pattern or making a few larger slots or somewhere inbetween – Suggestions on what you guys think would be more effective are welcome !

If I had a 9 axis mill…… which is basically a robotically controlled arm that can move anywhere and at any angle then assuming I could get it moving I’d probably break it in no time because I cant even take control of my 3 axis, LOL. Blod and especially buba_b with his gun projects are putting out work on manual machines that makes me real jealous.

Here are the last two (need another coat of paint and top coat).

I have been experimenting with different length inserts because I am considering cutting my frame – eventually I’ll insert a spacer that’s solid other than a hole for a pellet to take up some shroud space and see how well the insert works and based on that result perhaps cut down my gun an inch or 2 and make it even shorter while keeping some noise reduction.

Ok, in other words, I would just like to see what thier minds could create if there were no restrictions….

With all the set up, and the expense of the machinery, a $5000.00 Shroud is what they could do. Better to go into buisness making the whole gun with that kind of equipment!! 😀

It would be interesting to see what you guys could do
with an automated 3D CNC setup…I can’t comprehend the thought
process it takes to turn out this kind of work…..

I did not notice a difference between my original 4″ version and when I tested this one.

Which one was quieter the 3″ or the 4″?

Man, I need a Lathe. I have a few Ideas I would like to try!

And it would be nice to be able to use somthing besides PVC!

What I have on the SS right now works very well. Just not the longevity I’m looking for! I would love to have one of yours or Sean’s. Especially for the .25 21″ bbl I have ordered!

I just started linning with steel tubing the inside of the part that slips into the frame is is pressed into the shroud. this should help the longivity a lot!

I crashed my mill – Had to wait for a replacement.

For the sake of mass production I went to a 3″ length insert because then I can put it in my vice length ways between the jaws so it requires less set up.

I did not notice a difference between my original 4″ version and when I tested this one.

Got one milled yesterday, painted it today and going off to critter’s friend on Monday.

There’s another in mill right now being milled for mamcrackin and then I’m making one for Rob3dr and then I have to repair my lathe

Bearings shot so its quite hard drilling the hole in the center. Going to have to strip that down and get it fixed.

Need a big mill and lathe to make these with any expediency. Right now it takes about an hour total in the CNC, not including manual work like set up, drilling the hole through middle, finishing and painting – Not worth my time to make them once I’m done with the remaining two.

Any News? Enquiring minds want to know! 😀

I’m working on the G-Code for the insert so I can make them a lot faster….

Here it is so far, just the smaller slots, will move onto the larger baffles soon..

Thats just the front half and their through holes. I need to finish the rear half and then after that the peice is rotated and the program run from the start (minus through holes)…. so I’m a little over 1/2″ as far as programming goes and that picture represents just under 1/4 of the work required.

Those that I promised these to… I “should” have at least one made by this evening, which is Rob’s. Other’s will follow shortly after depending on the number of glitches I come across.

well speaker builders have for years utilized the knowledge that you need to size the chambers so they will not resonate with each other….

i forgot the formular, but a guy in denmark did the tests, and concluded follwing the fomulas of speaker building gave him the most quiet silencers

he also figured out that 3 chambers where enough for most applications…. i posted the formula on the old TOG, in hope it would never be forgotten….i cant remember it now….but hopefully someone can !

Sounds like it aught to be true.
Al make one with differant size chambers or even adjustable chambers.
Al do some thinking.

I keep hearing that it is good to have different size chambers to kill different frequencies. What say you? I notice that these all look the same.
