FYI JSB comparison of 14.3gr, 15.9gr, and 18.1gr
I tested some JSB’s today.
Same gun, same POA, 10 shots each group, 65yds with BSA Super
Ten bull barrel.
Top row from left to right was
15.9gr — 14.3gr — 18.1gr — 15.9gr

Second row
15.9gr — 18.1gr
14.3gr @ 875FPS
15.9gr @ 850FPS
18.1gr @ 815FPS
In my opinion, you can’t go wrong with any of them…The only obvious
difference is price and availability IMO….14.3gr is $20.00 per 500, 15.9’s
are $15.00 per 500 and the 18.1’s are $17.00 per 500. The 18.1gr
seems to be the hardest to get but I would advise that you place orders
a month before you are going to run out no matter which you use….
The more tins you order the cheaper they are…I think I ordered 16
tins of 15.9gr From Pyramydair and got them for about $12.00 per
tin shipped….

Wow Jeff I knew buy the looks of your backstop you posted a while back you shot a bunch but you really do shoot a bunch that is cool maybe you should get into making pellets if you do let me know I think we could do good I need a job for extra money how about you! You do have an air compressor set up don’t you I thought I saw some pictures a while back not sure if it was you or not but it was a nice set up, if I had some money to burn which I don’t I would own a compressor scuba tank getting filled is not bad but sure would be nice just to fill it up in my garage. I was wondering how long it took to fill a tank with a compressor? thanks Eddie

Good results Jeff from the targets looks like it was a calm night in Texas! Speaking of Texas how far away are you from Airforce Ville! What we need to do is run an air hose from Texas to Indiana so I can fill my scuba tank up any time I want to I would love to have a compressor but probably should make a couple house payments instead keep us posted on the targets and don’t run out of pellets! Got some groups at all power levels and with both pellets….
Looks like the 18.1gr is grouping better again except on low power..
It doesn seem to like going slow….Where as the 15.9 seemed to be
a little tighter at a slower speed….So that is now 3 completely
different guns that are shooting the 18.1gr the best…I think it might
be safe to say that the 18.1gr is the most accurate overall..
At the last minute I remembered that I had more 14.3gr so I shot
those on High, Med, Low Power and I have to say they were not as
good going fast but were right there with the 15.9gr groups when I
shot them on Low power…I had a 5 shot one holer with 3 flyers
that weren’t far off…

So did you get to shoot the FX Cyclon seen some chrony’s just curious don’t tell me you ran out of pellets and passed out and the good looking neighbor girl had to give you mouth to mouth and now you are confused!

Well the FX Cyclone just got here and it looks impressive….As soon
as the wind cooperates I am going to see what this thing will do….
I will be able to shoot at 3 different velocities with the flick of a lever to see how
the JSB’s group..Should be some interesting info….The BSA Sportsman HV may be
looking for a new home when I am done…….
Ya I had a chance to get one off yellow for $750.00 and was conferring with the wifey and just let it get sold.
maw, the best thing I did was spring for a AA rifle… it tightened up my shooting big time across the board. It’s a pleasure to shoot, right out of the box, no dicking around, and very handsome rifle to boot.
gun and the pellets you have a combination that’s a keeper.
Very consistant and not one flyer…..That says a lot about the gun
and the shooter… Now stretch that thing out and bring us back some more targets…..Great post….

Will do mam, it’s just that all I have is 30 yrds max on my property, and that’s shooting thru the house, and out the back yard just to get 30. One of these days I’ll get myself to the local shooting range to stretch it out. I find your research and testing interesting. Good work.
Great stuff eddie….Groups look really good….Especially like seeing
the long range 80yd groups….I had similar results this morning at 92yds…
The groups don’t flair out at yardage like I thought they would
which is great…keep an eye out for that crow..he’s out there somewhere…
FYI try changing the pic download to a smaller size in Photo Bucket before downloading…
It will keep the screen from becoming so wide
when you post the pics….

Jeff here are a couple targets fps were low 9880 high 1074 Average 1044 the black Diamond shaped targets are JSB 18.1 @ 50yds number 3 lower left would have been a keeper for sure but one went out still ended up just under .500 as is number 1 number 2 is is .375 so I am very happy with those results for sure! poa on those targets I moved my scope for number 3 had it set for kodiaks, the JSB’s shot so well I decided to sight it in a little closer for that crow that might just land “You know what I mean” The Red and Green circle target is Beeman Kodiaks I have shot better and posted better groups at 50 yds usually at .500 but this one I shot at after the 80 yd one it is .750 on the red one and the green circle was shot at 80yds POA was at the red circle but the groups were great There is one clear at the top that was my first shot at 80 yds just to see what the drop was going to be aimed at top of target with second mill dot if I remember right. But like I said POA was at the Red circle and it hit the green one which is just at a 3 inch drop for the heavier kodiaks 21gr that is not bad at all, at that time fps was running right at 1050 to 1044 for all 10 shots on the circles. I am going to get so
me of the lighter pellets just to try to in JSB 15.9 I believe they are. Well next I am going to post the targets takes me a while to figure that out hope things are good in Texas today nice here in Indiana
Interesting what you can find when you pay attention…maw, I shot
more today with the same results in my S10 and could definately tell
the difference loading the 18.1gr…..The was a small amount
of resistance and a click when the pellet tail went into the
transfer port with the S10….Good call…That could make all the difference in the world.
However, there was no disearnable difference loading the 18.1’s in
the Sportsman HV…..
I also stretched it out to 77 & 92yds (as per my laser range finder)
and the groups were impressive…I could not climb the pine tree I shot
to measure them but I would say somewhere in the range of 1-1.5″.
The 18.1gr is definately a keeper….I just bought an FX Cyclone..It will
be here tomorrow so I will post more tests when I get it up
and running….We will see if it shoots them as well as the BSA
rifles….
Just to throw more information into the mix. I chronied both rifles
with the 15.9gr & 18.1gr and this is what I found.
BSA Super Ten
15.9gr=850 FPS
18.1gr=815 FPS
BSA Sportsman HV
15.9gr=1025 FPS
18.1gr=970 FPS
Looks like speed alone is not a factor but I think it would be safe to say
that the 18.1 is very accurate in the 800-1,000FPS range. At least with these 2 rifles.
Are the 18.1’s a better quality pellet? Better fit in the barrel? I
have tested the BC of both and the numbers said the 15.9 had the
better BC. There is nothing like physical evidence….
I have a puzzled look on my face right now….. 😕

Thanks eddie…From 3,000psi to 4,600psi on an 88cu ft tank it takes 15-20 min…
