Long Range Testing of BSA .25 Barrel.
Finally got to strech the legs on my new .25 BSA 24″ barrel.
Range was 97.5 yards.
Wind about 5-10 mph in gusts.
31 grain H&N Baraccudas at 980 down to 930 fps.

VERY pleased with the barrels performance.
As with any unregulated air rifle, its vital you know how the poi changes as you shoot through. For me, every 4th shot you have to adjust up a little. Keeping count in the field is more easily done by using a pellet holder.
Crown was lovingly done by Lang, very nice it is too 8)
Anyhoo, I know the barrel now and how she shoots. Into the fields today and see how the bunnies like it !!!

ok ok ok, I looked it up. It was “Fear and Trembling,” and was authored around 1843, a publication on the nature of faith. My mistake on the title… my memory playing tricks on me in my old age. Interesting paper.

3 in 1 oil? I seem to recall my mom having something similar next to her sewing machine, which I would rob and use in all sorts of arcane late night experiments. Don’t have anything similar here, though. A couple million scuba divers can’t be wrong, silicone grease is expensive but the only thing they will use when rebuilding high pressure applications when oxygen is around, like scuba first stages. I suspect the petroleum distillates which contain volatile components are in such close quarters with the nitrile components that they cannot sustain a flame front; much like how a flame arrestor works; the screen mesh is too cool so the flame front cannot propagate through the openings and get past it, the fire extinguishes due to a drop in temperature as it hits the screen. Still, I never like to take chances; I’ve always used silicon grease in my over unders and other shotguns and rifles as well, whenever a high pressure or very hot jet of air is close to moving parts.
With O rings, I’ve been more worried about the petroleum being able to break down the rings, I read up on some of the manuals to see if exposure to oil or petroleum products was ok for the nitrile. Don’t remember what it said, only that I came away concluding that even though it was ok in the short term, there was a limit to the exposure which meant going with silicon was still the best bet in the long run. But that’s just me.
