Q:

airforce products= disappointment 4 me

Been seeing a lot of airforce guns for sale the last couple days, am I missing something? Is there a great new gun that everyone is getting rid of the talon/condor for? I have been disappointed in my condor from day one but with everyone selling I don’t think I will be able to sell for a price anywhere close to what I paid. To spend 600-700 on a gun that has to be worked on to shoot consistently is b/s in my opinion. To spend anymore on an expensive gun doesn’t make any points with the wife either. I guess I’m just not wealthy or patient enough for these guns. Sorry for the rant, I just had to get it out.

my Talon has been great “right out of the box”!

the only things i’ve done is to work with adjusting the tophat and installed a shroud. i also happen to be using the standard AF open sights, too.

accuracy, with open sights, is more than good enough to harvest small game at ranges out to 60 yards (at least that’s what i’ve done so far.)

“just for grins” i did a test of it and my RX beeman…both are “standard” as from the factory; each penetrated, completely, and CLEANLY, a sheet of 1/2″ plywood from a measured 36 yards using crosman and benjamin pellets. that tells me each is VERY capable to take up to fox sized critters (with CORRECT shot placment, of course)

the AF is NOT on it’s top PW setting, either…i’m certain it would do better should i increase the setting and find the correct pellet for the setting.

what’s my point? my point is that i agree with those who say: “isn’t a standard porsche, corvette, mustang, camero, maserati, honda, or ferrari good enough?” i found in the past, racing morocycles, that i couldn’t use the full potiential of a factory, standard machine, let alone a custom, hybrid, high performance, high dollar piece of machinery.

i think the best way to extract the maximum enjoyment from your AF is to explore it’s potiental…IMO, it’s one the the best air rifle platforms out there to use stone, stock, standard or, bucks up custom…

I love this site,You guys are the best.

I know something else that was very disappointed with AirForce Products.
This crow I shot today hates AirForce Products LOL!

SDMIKE,

PM me your address and I will send you some Kodiaks and EuJins

cabelas pellets= relabeled crosmans

You bought a Condor to shoot 14gr pellets 😕 …. so thats like 1300+ fps, no wonder your having problems.

Maybe you should try the heavier pellet thing you briefly mentioned before you write it off.
I’m going to order some heavier pellets, cabelas 14.5g are the heaviest available locally.

18 grain are the minimun for a Condor with Kodiaks or Eun Jins being the best. The chrony is the only way to confirm shot strings but once you get her sorted out you will just love it. 😀

Cabela’s pellets ??

I thank everyone for the encouragement they have given. The weather looks like it’ll be nice this weekend so I plan on spending some serious time just shooting this gun. I am thrilled to be a part of a forum that not only gives advice but offered to donate for the cause of making a fellow airgunner satisfied with his gun. I think the chrony will have to wait, a shroud will be more helpful at this time. Shooting in many areas causes unwanted attention because of the noise. I like to avoid law enforcement encounters if I can. I’m going to order some heavier pellets, cabelas 14.5g are the heaviest available locally. Layoff season is approaching quick again so $ or lack of may hinder gun stuff. I always make sure bills are paid, food on the table, and gas in the cars for my family before I think about play money. Thanks again everyone and feel free to keep passing info this way.

Sorry to hear that Mike, Mine was a shooter right out of the box , I mean deadly accurate.

Im getting about 1.5 inch groups at 100 yards , Useing 18 gr JSB’s. and a cheap scope .

still trying for that .75 mark. Just need a little more consistancy in the shot string I think.I never touched my tophat or had it tuned ,

I wonder if you got a lemon, that happens . someone may have returned it after messing it all up , no one checked it out and you bought it as new.

It sounds like something is wrong , most people are astounded by the accuracy and power .

I have my Condor over 4 years now and with a custom heavy hammer from Talon Tunes, a chrony, heavy pellets, and adjusting the tophat has provided a great powerful dependable shooter. But out the box they need to be tuned as they leave the factory all about power and and consistancy but tuning is cheap and fun.

Sent ya a pm SDmike, have learned alot from here, reading on this forum , Thanks to everyone

Hey This Gives Me an Idea! 💡

First let me say that this thread right here is where you see the true dynamic of what TALONAIRGUN.COM is, we have a shooter with a dilemma and many TAG’ers helping out to show this shooter the awesomeness of these airguns and how to shoot, tune and or setup his gun and I think that is something to be applauded.

Now this is my Idea, we all know this can be a costly hobby and its true that some of our members don’t have the cash to keep dumping into thier guns, and with synopsys offering $35 bucks to SDmike ( which is like the coolest shit in the world)I think we should start some sort of fund, sort of a petty cash for members to help others with little purchases like this one. we could all (who are willing) donate 5bucks or so to the pot and maybe once a week we could puchase a TAG.IFT for another member or two. I think this would be cool. I will start another thread ton get opinions.

These are good ideas, but charity can certainly get way the hell out of control quickly. At least consider creating some sort of Chrony rental program just like Home Depot does with power equipment. I for one, use mine for setting up new guns or adjusting to new pellets and/or optics. Other than those times, mine stays in a box in the closet.

For shit’s sake, if Pomona Airguns can have a raffle and give away VERY decent prizes to their customers, couldn’t we do that too on a smaller scale for shit like chronographs or parts or something?

I think it bears mentioning that many first time Airforce buyers, purchase used guns on bidding websites or classifieds – which I believe is a mistake for first time owners. I also see many people purchasing through vendors (most often Pyramyd) which do NOT test fire and prep their guns before they get shipped. All the more reason to purchase from Tony at Talon Tunes, Van at AirHog.

I’ll tell you what Mike, i’ll send you $35 towards a Chrony if you want to see what is up with your bird…?
