.22 Marauder barrel
Pulled the barrel on my MRDR for a bit of clean up.
First thing I noticed was there was a “dent” on the breach end that cause some metal to protrude into the inleade area, a little work work a file took care of that.
the lands where rough and filthy, polished them up a bit with metal polish, will probably do a bit more polishing as it is still a bit rough.
Crown wasn’t too bad, polished it up – well see….
smoothed out the transfer port area in the bore.
the scary one is the inleade isn’t concentric to the bore, there is a small lip on one side, maybe a couple thou….
going to try the earplug and sand paper trick to see if I can smooth it out a bit
hopefully this will tighten up the groups a bit and make it less pellet picky

My wife came in running and shouting, all 4’11” of her, brown eyes flashing, while I was pmg’ing RJ Porter about my latest errant vendor contact. She told me the other night there had been two of them at the bird feeder.
I grabbed the Airarcher, which was badly in need of more air, maybe down to about 1900 PSI, which is only equal to around 275 FPS and nailed this bandiito at 21 yards.
This thing is about as much fun as you can have with your clothes on!

I own all 3 of the Marauder Guns 17,22, and 25.
I also have 22 rim fire with the green mountain barrels that shoot one hole groups consistent at 25 yards.
I was wandering why the new 25 caliber shoots so good. The other two guns will shoot the lids off of plastic pop bottles at 25 yards and hit the one inch shoot and see consistent, but the 25, isn’t one bit pellet picky, and will slam those 43 grain eun Jinns or 24 gram kodiak with precision accuracy. They might shoot high or low considering the weight, but they hit the spot consistently. Has to be the barell. Green Mountain? Golly my first one came from Cabela’s. long time ago. Still like new and my guns are not for sale or trade.
I also have the Air Force Condor, which is a power house,, I thought for a while I was just an air rifle nut, but then I found all these forums and now I know I’m not the only one 🙂
For the money the MRDR is still quite good, with Kodiaks mine would easily put 5 under a .25 C-T-C at 25 yards, most of the time.
It makes a good Hunting rifle right out of the Box.
Just wanted a bit more, the barrel is the weak link, the wood on my stock is pretty nice, its just shaped wrong.
A blank from Mac1 is only $60 and since I got my riffle for $399 it would still be a sub $500 rifel 😀
So I’ll just keep shooting until I can get my lathe setup and then I’ll try a re-crown, if it still doesn’t do what I want I’ll get a Mac 1 barrel.
Had to order a new cable for my chrony, original one is either lost or in a box somewhere (same diff at this point)
So I should be able to star tweaking the performance next weekend – weather permitting

The stock was made by David Sosa. He did a fine job on it. I too saw it on PA. I think they put it their to show how “modifiable” these rifles are…sort of like the allure of many other guns in their stabels….

Yes I having been following your progress on those little carbines from afar.
I suppose that my first 25 will be in the form of a condor barrel. I want to buy an addional frame next month and will probably pick up a complete gun on the forum, then sell what I don’t need, if it has a 25 barrel so much the better for I will keep the barrel.
I have read that the stocks on those Maurders have already been down graded from what they were when they first came out, out sourceing again. That stock converion that you did is really an improvement, hope it all works out for you. I even saw a picture of that stock you have on PA’s website this last week. I don’t know if that means they are pedaling them now.
I have heard a lot of good things about the green mountain barrels over the years on black powder rifles.

Thanks for your sympathy…but to be honest, I never expected this rifle to rank with higher end pcp’s at double to quadruple the price….The barrel is—hands down—the weekest link on this rifle…the stock is a close second. I will get a new barrel soon for it…
Luckily when one rifle gets frustrating, I put it down and begin working on another. I have plenty that need my attention. I am currently building five 22xx pistols and carbines and these are fun and “distracting” from the accuracy woes of my MROD.

How frustrating this must be for the two of you. I have waited forever for project guns to come around, a custom Mauser in 6 mm 20 years ago comes to mind, I waited two years for it, then have it not shoot worth a shit. And many more thru the years.
My condolances to both of you, we consumers are all in this together.
My plastic breech block has a stripped cocking knob hole this evening, no surprise it has been working loose for 5 months on a 8 month old gun, easy fix but this stuff should not happen. Sounds like you and Dogwood are in the same boat.
