Q:

Possible scratch in barrel?

Hey guys,

I have been trying to figure out why my gun has been grouping poorly. I figured it was in the valve, because I was having the problem after I messed with it. I crushed the stem and I think the the screws are stripped. Even with that I was getting descent numbers, good enough to not affect accuracy, I think.

I have checked everything I can think of, screws, shroud, mounts and found nothing there that should be doing it. I than looked down the barrel and saw a faint line moving with the rifling, but not at the rate. How much could this be affecting the accuracy, short of buying a new barrel is their anyway to test this? Can they be honed or polished or would that make the bore to big?

At this rate I think my gun may be heading back to Florida for the winter, or sooner if Tony will take it again. If so, the valve will never be touched by me again.

Thanks

I missed the last couple of replies, I don’t know why it didn’t inform me of them. Anyhow my gun has been boxed up and is heading back to Tony. I have a month of out of state work and a law suit over my house will be getting finished up (hopefully) so ill have to get back to work on my remodel. I wouldn’t have had much time and should get some money now, so I figured I’d send it in since I wouldn’t be using it anyways. I’ll let you know what Tony comes up with when he gets some time to work on it. I do appreciate all the help you guys have given me.
Thanks

Hey Assman,

Try seating your pellets a little deeper in the barrel. Use a ball point pen or the like.

Just try it.

Jim

ps: if that doesn’t work, time to move to Wisconsin. LOL

try filling to 2100, and just keep shooting groups, the velocity will drop off ,that way you can see if the gun is wanting less velocity for best groups.

when the groups tighten or if they tighten check velocity and see what your tank pressure is, then you will know where the gun need to be for the pellets you are shooting.

Now what I hope you figured out something if so let us know

Here is my latest result with no luck.

How big is the bore hole in your shroud? just curious take it off and shoot it I had a problem with mine when I first put it on and just assumed it wasn’t the problem but it was, It was clipping inside someplace so I opened up the hole a bit. Also this is something you probably allready know but without a shroud poi will be a bit different than with one on sometimes not much and sometimes more I learned if you turn it and play around with it you can get it pretty close! This I think happens with air turbulance inside the shroud 😆

Going to try shroud on/off with my Nikko. After that I will need to get some bore paste and try that. I think I have to find a way to strap the gun so I can eliminate it being me, but I really don’t think it’s me. If that doesn’t help I’ll see if Tony would be willing to work on it again.

Any progess AM on your problems?

Dam , you don’t have this figured out yet, maybe time for a beer and think about it.

ej;s were tighter than kodiak`s for me. for sure.

You know i was disappointed in my condor when i first bought it.

the groups sucked. until i figured out what it wanted.

Do Kodiak’s feel real loose compared to EJ’s for everyone else?

EJs are tightish, the kodiaks just snug.

Do Kodiak’s feel real loose compared to EJ’s for everyone else?

looks like one, because I can count 9 others, its not the best paper.

I did not adjust, thats 10 shots aimed at the circle I had drawn.

My brother scored pretty good on the range in Marines so I was going to have him try when he comes home in a month. I can shoot better than this, at 20yds I’ve done a rough one hole group.

What are the baffles on the barrel?

The barrel seems to be centered on end cap, I don’t think I could have bent the barrel.

thanks for the help

Wow, guess I was wrong to say it’s the shroud.

Did you adjust the ACOG on this group?

Is the topmost hole one or two shots? If it’s one, that looks like a tumble to me.

I’m a bit stumped.

Are you certain your baffles are tight on the barrel etc?. Horizontal stringing in powderburners is often a bedding problem.

Don’t take this the wrong way, but have you let anyone else shoot it? Same result?

You haven’t bent the barrel by any chance have you? Do you have the Condor endcap to put on it? Is the barrel centered in the frame? Seems to me like there is some sort of side-force pushing them left and right.

Again, I’m grasping at straws here.

Regards,
Jim

This was today with no shroud and ACOG on. I think I need to go back to my scope and try again, this optic wasn’t made for this. It’s very hard to see dot if im moving around in the dot/target . I never moved outside of the dot I had drawn, but could have moved around inside of it and not have known. So I guess I’m saying the group should be absolutely no bigger than twice the size of the inside circle, assuming I may have moved from one edge to the other and its about twice that.

You see the tighter spots, thats what was happening with the scope. I would get a few tight ones adjust, than gone.

I have always adjusted to a 3 shot group should I be doing a bigger group before adjusting.

koidaks 2800 psi, 31 yds

I tried Wok’s idea and couldn’t see any marks on the end cap. I still will try without the shroud for 5-10 shots depending on the neighbors.

Wont necessarily show on the exit hole. I had a silencer that was clipping inside slightly, but was leaving no trace on the exit hole.

That is can be correct if the exit hole is larger then the baffle hole, or the baffle is off center
