In the mood for a new pistol… suggestions?
I want an accurate pistol plinker that’s also a repeater. Here’s the twist… I’m considering either HPA/CO2 177 Pellet Gun (not BB) or a 22 S/LR Revolver.
So.. what would your top pick be for an accurate gas or powder repeater? If you can link to the gun’s product page – all the better.
Price range approx $300 for HPA/CO2 and $500 for a firearm. Scope or laser is a separate budget.

That’s cool. they don’t make the M. 6 g any more, but it is recoilless , it has opposing pistons that cancel out recoil, pretty cool actually.

The rws 6 was on my list but I’ve had enough with spring technology… I don’t want the confusion of recoil or vibration to be a factor – hence pneumatic.
I am now a huge fan of peep sights… they are incredibly accurate compared to a rear notch.

Been looking at PCP pistols, I like the looks of the crosman silhouette pistol. Then there is the Maurador pistle when it comes out.

I picked up a pre-owned Beretta PX4 Storm to see how an action pistol stacks up – and there’s no comparison… While the idea of an air repeater sounds cool – the reality doesn’t live up… Accurate, good trigger, and consistent is where it’s at for me.
Now, that darn Ruger MKIII stainless target edition – is calling my name – roll on 2011 😉

Shot count
Velocity
Rifled barrel
Ergonomics
Reliability
Thats the main points the other points are not so critical.
They will be available soon and basically the first I have seen to go over 500 fps.
I’m swinging towards the Colt 1911 because the Smith 586 has a review about it’s trigger and hammer wearing down as it breaks in – creating play where none existed before.
The Colt 1911 looks great and the trigger may just be an acquired taste – so long as it’s CO2 accurate out to about 15 yards. We don’t have temperature problems here in Austin TX… most of the year we’re above 50, and mostly above 80.
I like the all metal finish of the Colt and option for wood grips. A quality plinker which doesn’t look like a toy.
I’ll look at the 2nd hand MKIIs… but the new MKIII is within my budget for early 2011.
If i were after a 22 auto, i would find a good used Mark II ruger. don’t get caught up with spending a bunch of money when you dont need to. unless you have it to burn, i would rather get the best deal so i could spend the rest on something else. 😉
I don’t care for the mark III but i am used to the mark II . if you have never shot the mark II the mark III would probably be great. 🙂
Oh and that colt co2 pistol can be cocked and shot by cocking the hammer which makes the trigger better than pulling it double action, but i think that it still rotated the cylinder when pulling the trigger.

Forgot about those , a Hy-standard is suppose to be the best damn 22 ever made.
A repeater + CO2 = low power now matter what you do.
Add in colder weather a slingshot will be more fun.

Okay, to recap the AGs… I appreciate the reference to the Diana LP and Beeman P1 but I’m looking for a repeater so that non-AG buddies have fun shooting it.
The Colt 1911 is great, accurate, and realistic with the exception the trigger is double action (one pull cycles and fires) with the additional creep/weight that entails. Looks great too.
The Smith 586 is accurate with a fantastic double/single action trigger (manual cock and then fire). A good compromise for accuracy and performance. Looks like the firearm.
The Crosman 22xx while not a repeater is easy to mod and enhance (similar to my 1377).
Can I put a Crimson Trace laser on either the Smith or Colt? i.e. can I replace the grip with a laser grip?
I really appreciate everyone’s feedback so far. The Ruger MKIII is tempting me like a cold beer on a warm Sunday afternoon.

Single pump, spec is 500fps. It shoot reliably out to 15 yards with R10 Match Pistol pellets.
The action of pumping the gun opens the breech automatically… load the pellet, close the breech, no safety, and shoot. It’s about as efficient as you can get. The trigger is simply breathtaking.
I have the same accuracy shooting this as a scoped springer bench rested. 🙂
BUT… to get this level of accuracy you need a pistol scope with parallax to 10m or a Merit 3LS peep sight with mounting kit and front sight. The factory notch is good but not for rifle level performance.
