12" Talon SS baffles
I’ve gotten a couple of PM’s asking how to and does jaybirdo’s baffle scheme really work in the 12” SS.
First off, the baffles knock down the stock SS report to where you can hear tank ping if your PW is set around 4-5 or lower. Is this method as quite as the $120 solutions? Due to reduced expansion volumes, I think not. I would go the $120 solution, in a heart beat, for the 18 or 24” barrels for urban warfare or if quieter 12” needed.
For the 12” shrouded frame, jaybirdo’s $8 solution brings an evil grin on my face, it’s “almost” as quite as my spring FWB-124. My 124 does not have the report of a PPC, unless dieseling, more mechanical at different frequencies for a better term.
As to sequence, you would remove end cap. Insert o-ring-spacer o-ring – washer, this clears the barrel. Then o-ring, washer-o-ring-spacer for next “module”. I ended the front section with stacked washer and o-ring combos, some with 4 o-rings stacked to vary the chamber and add rubber “squish” to end cap and to keep things tight inside shroud. There is lots of room for tinkering with the volume sequences here so have fun.
I got the ¾” copper pipe unions, near 1” OD, 1” (-214) o-rings, and 1” OD with ¼” hole washers at my local Lowes. The copper unions can be cut length wise if a tight fit required, I used 1 wrap of electrical tape to avoid metal to metal and help center but probably not needed. Nice of AF to have shroud ID near 1”, no? 😛
After assembly I made sure no tube shadows or cocked baffles were detected by looking down the bore. No pellet clipping or change in POI, 20 yards, has occurred. If given the room I would have tested before and after at 40 yards to check POI.

I have tried it on various air rifles, from high end to low end, but you’d need to READ and COMPREHEND to see that, although it’s been spelled out plainly.

I’ve owned a few high end airguns through the years (HW77, ProSport) and tried to dampen the report various ways, the most effective being felt washers. Never had an issue with them fraying, distorting, or otherwise, because I had them stacked against eachother (instead of baffles). I lost the airgun bug and sold/traded those two rifles to continue in my primary hobby of shooting/reloading firearms. Recently I’ve been shooting house sparrows around my property to get bluebirds nesting with a Daisy 880 and and old Crosman 2200 Mag I picked up years ago when I was in the Army, and resurrected my shroud ideas, to the point I have almost no report at all when I shoot. With my growing frustration when I go to the firearms range with the people who show up with no thought of range safety and the limited range available (100 yards when you’re shooting a 6mm Rem at 4,000 fps), and the fact I’ve been getting more satisfaction shooting in my backyard, I’m taking the plunge back into airgunning with a renewed interest and appreciation for what if offers.
If you consider my 880 “grandmas red rider”, well, it’s getting me a consistent CTC 5 shot goupings of .35″ to .205″ with Beeman H&N Match HS 7.55 grain pellets at 15 yards, and consistent kills, as well as semi-consistent head shots, on sparrows out to 25 yards. Call bullshit if you’d like, but it’s the truth, and I know how to measure group sizes and ranges. Is the 880 as powerful as the Talon? No way. But the Talon’s power is also adjustable, so I can tune it for the backyard, or even take it squirrel hunting at the local state park that has shotgun only restrictions for small game. That’s why I’m interested in it and why I joined this site.
So was that enough to answer your question and convince some of you I’m not a troll? I’m a long time member of about 10 real firearm sites, and know my way around these forums, as well as knowing what a troll is. If it wasn’t for GTBJ’s post count, he’d qualify as the troll here. I’m not lurking to start shit, but I will finish it without compunction.
And to the individual who took issue with my login name, it’s paratrooper (former occupation) in German. Google it next time, you won’t look so stupid trying to be clever.
Now if you want to continue to act like some ass-hat, that’s obviously your self-given right, and to be honest you seem to have a lot of experience at it.
