Q:

177 Vulcan 2 update

Still getting used to to front lever cocking, Is it better than the rear lever cocking No just different, Now if you shoot a Mutant/Veteran , Cricket Your spoiled on the magazine loading , The Vulcan you have to spin and load it one at a time. Sucks when you been spoiled, I been shooting the 177 JSB 13.43gr pellets and shot count is way up there, I never let the gun go below 150 bar and never fill above 220 bar , I call this gun shoot a lot fill every once in a while ,  Sparrows just aim and shoot, Euro doves you better place your shot to the head or a good heart/lung shot or the bird is taking off,
Still have not taken it past 48 yards , It will stack pellets easy,
Makes me wonder why the 177 lost favor with the US market, bigger is not always better,
Mike

Thanks for the info ……..

hum …. sounds like you zeroed 10.34g at 50 and 13.43g at 30, strange both at 30 the 13g should drop an inch or so ?

Greg
I have been shooting the 13gr pellets , I just did a few shots over the chrony to test, It was shooting 840 FPS and the 10gr were shooting 960, I did make a note that at 30 yards I had to go two clicks down on the Athlon scope with the 13 gr pellet, I thought that strange, But just fluffed it off to new rifle breaking in,
So 10gr at 960 FPS
13 gr at 840 FPS
Mike

My Cricket Compact 177 likes JSB 10.34g the best at 920 fps, for a 177 cal it’s like comparing JSB 22 cal 16g to the 18g.

I need to try them redesign heavies Mike, BC must be great !
What speed u getting with them, 920 fps ?

How do you get the sparrows to hold still,
Back in the Marauder days when my sparrows were not so nervess and jumpy I could do a lot my head shots,
Now I just got seconds to take my shot, They have gotten smarter,

quote kris:

It does not make any sense to me, why don’t you go for lighter pellets and do headshots.

Kris, I’ve tried several lighter pellets and the only one that shoots good is the JSB 18.1 gr, and yes I can do head shots all day long.

You can shoot the cylinder down to 90 and I don’t fill over 200bar at all.
if you are keeping it 150-250 bar you are not conserving any air because you depleting the high pressure section of your diving cylinder you have got. So ultimately you will still need early to refill the big tank soon again with a compressor. Shoot the gun down to 100 at least to have the full benefits :8: no worries

I tried bisley magnums which seem like h&n barracudas I migh be wrong over 10grain, they dropped more than the jsb 10 grain, probably that’s the best pellet not too small to handle… the bisley magnums don’t group that well, but still OK.

Then I can get cheap h&n hunters and hunter extremes here so they work well, both better than bislyeys. yes polymags are very very light for your tune I tested them 870fps and they were holding still tight. The H&M’s are heavier a bit and have thicker skirts so not that easy to deform/damage that’s a plus.

With my current output setting the lightest 7.9grain jsb s print the tightest groups. Around 800fps. Can’t be achieved without reg adjustment so this is just theory for you. If you only adjusted the hst, you would end up very slowly climbing FPS shot after shot after a cylinder refill, over the full cylinder the POI would be moving climbing…

Well it is pellet on pellet with my best pellet so not really a group. I can kill wasps to get you the idea with quite high hit/miss ratio.

Actually that’s a pretty goood test for a pcp, if you can’t hit shit you know you have a problem with your gun.
But those pellets are too small, probBly you can’t even see them
The nice thing about small light pellets is there is usually 500 of them in jsb tins, many dead birds in a tin.
If you are happy just enjoy, shooting the beasts but I would use the ‘full cylinder’

LOL Kris,
My sparrow shots are super fast, No time to set up a shot or the bird will be gone, Just aim and shoot fast,
Now the euro doves do hang around , But there bobing there heads up and down on the grain, So its a heart/lung shot.
If i am shooting the 10gr JSBs at 960 FPS , I think my 8 gr pellets might be a little fast, I do have a few tins of 8.23 gr JSB match wad cutters , May shoot a few over the chrony just to see what they are doing.
That’s why I have not ordered any Polymags , I have not even tried to adjust any thing on the gun yet, So its just as it came to me,
I do need to lighten the trigger a little, But thats no big deal.
So far the Vulcan seems to like the 13.43 gr JBS redesigned pellets with in my 48 yard range,
Donnys Tatsu really made the gun super quite, Still getting a little puff of air but seems to be getting better.

It does not make any sense to me, why don’t you go for lighter pellets and do headshots.

Mike I’ll send you some sparrows down there to shoot. But of course they’ll already be dead.

I ordered my Huma regulator because I can’t get my Vulcan regulator to go over 125 bar. It’s currently shooting at 880 fps and I want to crank it up to 930 fps. Every time I try to raise the regulator past 125 bar it shoots up to 170+ bar. And I’m talking just a minute turn of the adjusting screw. It’ll go to 130 bar for about 5 seconds then shoot up. I even changed O-rings three times thinking I might have a bad one.
I backed off my spring adjuster to 3 turns in and it shot 780 fps, then I screwed it in to 3 1/2 turns and it went up to 825 fps. When I had it turned in 6 turns, I finally got up to 880 fps. I think that’s hitting the valve to hard and may cause some damage on the valve.
What’s nice about the Huma regulator is it’s premarked with different bar settings, and yes, I’ll double check the pressure with a pressure gauge.
One other thing, I did notice better accuracy as the velocity went up.

Why install a Huma?
Maybe something down the road to look at,

Lucky i do not have to count pellets, One magazine holds 15 pellets , So two magazines = 30 pellets an so forth .
But after sight in I get really bored at shooting paper, I can watch my PSI and Magazines and give a pretty close estimate .
About 90 shots , I will start shooting anything. Pill bottles filled with water, or grain, My old inhaler lot of springs in them,
Penny’s with a drop of super glue to keep them from falling over, Old 12 gauge shells, 22 shot shells, Colored marbles cheap ones explode ,
These dam sparrows have gotten smart, The days of 60 kills is over, I can get 20 to 30 kills if I get the camouflage out and that is trying real hard, I still have to shoot a couple of Euro doves a week to supplement my Turtle food.
Pecans are a blast to shoot the native Texas small hard shell are the best,
I really need to find me some feed lots , But most of them are up north 200 to 300 miles from me
Mike

Crank, I ordered one for my .22 Vulcan this morning and am having them set it at 130 bar.

Install a Huma?

What is the shot count Mike?? Or can’t you count that high?
