.22 Vulcan TGAG shroud
Couple of months ago if you asked me if I was going to buy a Vulcan or Mutant my answer was no. I was happy with my .22 Cricket and .25 R3M. But since I have no life and I hang out with old folks on here, I was constantly exposed to the Mutant and Vulcans. Mutant appealed to me because of how quiet the report was and the smoothness in the cocking. Very similar to the Cricket and that’s why I held out so long. Tell you the truth the Mutant compact is a very nice and quiet gun. I prefer it over my Cricket based on the weight and compactness. Then comes the Vulcan, I had a prod sitting around that was never going to get used again because of the mutant and I had other airgun accessories laying around. You guys probably saw a bunch of my ads on the Yellow. Any hoot, I was able to gather enough money to buy a Vulcan. Oak man hooked me up real nice on a used one with all the bells and whistles. He said it was too loud for his shooting even though it has the latest TGAG shroud. It baffled me so I took a chance on it. Ernest had already worked his magic and got rid of the twang and ping. But here is the thing, the gun screamed like a hungry fat lady. Oak wasn’t kidding when he said the gun was still loud. It rang my ears for a long time and this is only after a few shots. Really bummed out, I kept thinking how is this shroud so loud? I don’t own a hummingbird but others have compared this new shroud to it. Very tempted to sell it to another member on here, I gave it one last chance and made my own shroud for it. After seeing jfrazier30’s video(http://talonairgun.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=54&t=33399) of how quiet his gun is I was determined to get mine to that level. He’s also shooting out of a TGAG shroud but mine doesn’t sound anything like it.
I spent a few hrs in the garage and made my own shroud. Crossed my fingers, closed my eyes and pulled the trigger. The sound was night and day! Exactly like jfrazier’s. Told Vince I am sorry but I can’t sell this gun anymore, it sounds awesome. Just hammer slap and hardly any muzzle blast. This shooting without LDC. With LDC, forget about it, super quiet. When guys say there is no hammer slap, they are lying, when metal slaps on metal there’s going to be a hammer slap. However, there is no ping. Just a quick slap.
Here is what the TGAG shroud looks like inside
Everything looks like it was CNC very nicely and the baffle holes are very tight to the .22 pellet.
Here is what is in my shroud, just two baffles, two metal curlers wrapped in felt and spacers
My shroud has 4 vent holes in a line at the top.
Also topped off with a black delrin cap.
For this one, I mad an LDC without the cone shape in the back to make it short as possible
I am very happy with this gun now but still trying to figure out why the TGAG is so loud. Any suggestions? Do I have to align the holes in the side of the baffles so that they are all in a line?

Something was definitely wrong with Oak’s shroud. I have the gun now and when I first shot it, I couldn’t believe this was the gun people were talking about. Removed the shroud and put on my CF shroud and it sounded 10x better.
Are you shooting this inside the house or outside. It makes a big difference when your outside and you are listening to the guns being fired. The Vulcan might be louder to get shooter but actually very quiet 10 feet off.

Oak when these guns first came out I had a friend over with his 22 Vulcan and could not say it was loud at all. It’s not as quiet as my 22 cricket but nothing alarming.

Talk to Donny Du about his gun once the muzzle blast is removed. He told me it was quiet. Ernest told me the same thing after he made it quiet for me. You boys are not reading you are yapping. h00t take your meds man or go wrestle that deer.

There’s nothing legal, or sane, that 50 fpe with a 37gr Wicked Extreme Hollowpoint can’t handle.

the FX impact has a telescopic shroud. maybe you can fit a tigh fittin tube to the existing shroud to extend it.
I am sure I will be messing with mine when it arrives.

Hoot our desire for power has me wondering what pests do you have around your home that a 50 fpe can’t take care of.
I also want to comment about gun control and pcps. I think with the days are getting short with our liberty of shrouded airguns. A member made a comment about pcp used for home protection. I think it’s something better left unsaid

I’m waiting for Ernest’s Delrin spring guide to arrive, then I plan to put the rubber grommet around the spring. At this point I believe all has been done to my gun to lower the muzzle noise, so now i’m concentrating on that ping.
I agree…hammer slap is a fact of life on an impact hammer/valve pcp. A “hammerless” pcp, such as the Huben, would probably be the ultimate answer. But, I must work with what I own, and so far the Vulcan has the most features I desire in a pcp.
Meanwhile, delrin and a rubber grommet is my next big shot at silence.
I would love to have a .30 caliber, but I’m not willing to pay a $500 premium to go up five thousandths of an inch in pellet size. I also have to take into consideration that I shoot near neighbors and there comes a point where a body needs to reign in his need for power. I like to shoot into the air without worrying I’ll injure or kill someone when that pellet comes back down. The last thing we need is a national news report of someone getting “shot” with a “high powered air rifle”. Then Hillary, Barrack, and the whole gun control lobby, would have an entire new reason to demand control over the senseless spread of “deadly weapons” in the hands of children and adults. Same goes for a pcp machine gun…that’s courting disaster and the potential for federal control/rules/regulations on pcp equipment. For now, we are still under their radar.

Kris my goal is not to alter the gun too much cosmetically. Whatever we are doing is just minor tweaks here and there.

why don’t you guys just fit a larger chambered airsoft moderator… maybe it will extend the barrel too a bit but who cares.

you have got 2 heavy duty end caps which can be machined to fit o ring in there or have smaller aperture fitted.
and you can still use some internals hair curlers etc.
I’ve got my eight rear vent holes at 1/8th” diameter each. I can’t hear them exhaust, but I’d not go any larger because at a point they will begin to produce an exhaust noise of their own.
Right now I’m waiting on Ernest’s delrin spring guide to arrive to see how quiet I can get that “ping” down.

Hoot i have one hole in shroud and its leaving quite a bit of lead dust on air tube. So its exhausting allot of air. Too bad I didn’t have time today to drill more holes

Hoot did you try to put a O ring or grommet around main spring? I also stuffed a small O ring into the other small spring next to hammer spring. All I hear is one big hammer slap that’s it. Zero ping. I don’t thing you can get rid of the hammer slap as its too much in the open so to speak. Cricket hammer is buried so it’s not as pernounced. Hammer slap is probably the loudest part of my gun. I was shooting today and had farmer stand beside front fender and fired a few and asked for his opinion on the noise level and he thought it was not loud at all. Impact hitting sparrow is much worse.

That telescoping FX shroud is trash, who would want a gimmick like that? Donny’s LDCs and shrouds are really good.
