Q:

.25/.257 Condor Build

Well here is my next build when I have the time. Will be able to switch between .257 and .25 barrels. This Condor will be like no other Condor.

.25 barrel is machined and half the hammer is also. Will machine the .257 barrel next and make a one piece bushing for it. Looking for 200 fpe in .25 and 220 + fpe in .257.

Did you do a string yet from 3400, maybe 6 shots,or till you drop 50fps. Leave it at pw6.

😯 NICE !!!!

197 fpe is very respectable. Is there a noticeable difference in hammer strike from 6 to 9 on your power wheel. Noticeable in that does it make the action jump any more??

Come on Doug, your killng me here. Please send me an update on when my barrel will arrive 😎 😀

Whatever is easiest for you I want that hotrod valve in my tank I suppose just make a valve for me and let me know were to pay-pal the money.

No burst disc. You want your stock valve modded or a complete valve?

All I can say is WoW!! Bottle has no burst disc or what, I would surely blow my tank with that much air I would not mind one of those valves and a sealed busk disc, is that possible? I would send you the tank, PM me a price.

So the .257 is on it’s own valve now and not the one out of my .308.

Did a little tweaking yesterday but only shot it a couple of times and ending up at 1070 fps with 3250 psi. Today Cedric came over to watch me make a valve. After I was done machining I decided to do a few shoots with the .257 and he agreed.

3250 psi 1070 fps PW 6
3300 psi 1088 fps PW 7 shot 2 1082 fps
3400 psi 1095 fps PW 9
3450 psi 1100 fps PW 9

If I would have turned up the PW a little more I might have gotten a little more. I won’t be happy until I get 200 fpe(1109 fps).

I’m at 197 fpe.

I still have a lot of return spring in the valve and will start taking some out to see what happens.

Next is going to be a .308 setup just like my .257 with a 32″ 1-14 4 groove barrel that will work on 3800 psi.

That is awesome Doug. That .257 sure is a flat shooting round! Sounds like it has the potential to give Jack’s a run for the money. Congratulations! 😎

I went shooting yesterday with the .257 and .308. Drove 100 miles to a place that my friends co worker has been going to for years. It is set up for powder burners. Closet target was 139 yds from where we setup. There were targets also at 200, 235, 239, and 300. All targets were metal. One was a old acetalene cylinder. 300 yd target was a 1.5’x1.5′ steel plate.

They also bring small targets and set them up closer for hand guns and .22 shooting. We setup pumpkins a little bigger than a soft ball at 135 yds and some closer.

I started with the .308 with 115.5 gr FN at the 135 yd pumpkins. Then moved on to the 235 yd target. It was a piece of a metal power pole with a happy face painted on it.

I was using the Mil dots to hit the 235 yd target. I them moved on the the 300 yd target. I was having trouble hitting it because I out of dots and into the lines. So I desided to adjust it to zero it out. I started with 2 full turns. It was low so I did one more turn. Now it was hitting just below the target. Used the last 4 click and I was still low. So I went to the first mil dot and bingo. Now I was hitting the target at 300 yds.

After a few shots and hits I decided to try the 119 gr pointed slugs. Now it was shooting high. So I tried straight on and it was still just over the target. So I took out 4 clicks and now I was hitting it with cross hairs on target.

Now it was time to try the .257. So I dialed in 3 turns like the .308. It shot way high and I ended up with 2.4 turns up to hit the 300 yard target.

Got bored with hitting the 300 yd target so I started shooting at rock around it. I wish they had a 400 yard target.

I’m pretty amazed at how far and good both guns shoot.

I started on a valve for the .257 tonight so I can put my good valve back in the .308 and start play with the .257 valve to be setup for just the .257.

Here it is. Still going to make a shroud for it.

Yep the Lyman mold. Going to have LBT make me a spitzer by coping the Lyman and making it have a point.

That is some great consistancy and energy Doug.

I assmunea th is with the 74 grainers?

RC

Shot 5 shots today and it still amazes me how efficient it is at the speed it is shooting.

Cedric was standing right there when I did it. Only used 250 psi for 5 shots.

Going to start on a new valve Friday and then a nice long shroud to quiet the beast.

Sweet stuff man,

i still want a bottle and reg set up for my condor, just havent had time to mess with it. one of these days i want to get you to help me with the stuff we talked about . but great to see you are playing with all this stuff still, and casting to boot.

nice!!

Got the .257 barrel in. But I for got to take a pic and it is all buttoned up and in the car ready to go shooting tomorrow.

Here’s what it does with .257 barrel. PW 7, 3300 psi .100″ TH

So 10 fps per inch is right on. Now I need to light up the valve spring and see what I can get.
