Q:

.25/.257 Condor Build

Well here is my next build when I have the time. Will be able to switch between .257 and .25 barrels. This Condor will be like no other Condor.

.25 barrel is machined and half the hammer is also. Will machine the .257 barrel next and make a one piece bushing for it. Looking for 200 fpe in .25 and 220 + fpe in .257.

Still tinkering with this thing. I still need to make a new valve so I can play with it more.

I sized a bunch more slugs down to .253″ I got 982 fps with the Lyman slugs yesterday.

Valve is working good but there is still room for more speed because of how tight the fps is. I shot 10 shots today and here’s what it did.

This is with 24″ barrel so when I put the 33″ in I should see 1050-1060 fps. I need to take it out and see how it shoots the lyman slugs sized down this far.

Your work sure is nice!

Nice progress Doug. With a .253 barrel you can use Jerry’s surefires made for the Korean barrels!

Had some set backs trying to work out a valve setup that would work on this gun. That is why I didn’t post the pic’s of this thing until now.

First I tried a .308 valve. I took the first .308 stem I made that started to collapse because of the angle the holes were drilled at. I turned the tophat side down to .375″. It fired a 7 ring at 900 fps but gun was not that loud. So valve was not staying open long enough. Well stem crushed so I moved on to the .25 valve.

Because the barrel is .375″ instead of .309″ just a new stem in my .25 tank didn’t work. Never got the valve to work. Made 2 new stems and center mount the spring so I could use the .308 valve springs to stop tank dump. Even put a 59 lb spring in the valve and that got it to use 1000-1200 psi for the first shot.

Put the .25 back together with it’s light return spring and it shot 1004 fps with 70.7 gr. So nothing is wrong with the valve.

So I put the gun a side to take a break from it. Thinking I spent all this time and cut up this frame for it not to work.

Hammer is 100 gr with the cocking knob. That is why the hammer looks the way it does to get it down to 77 gr before the knob.

Today I made a new stem for the .308 valve. I only put a .261″ hole in it to start. With a 13 lb .308 hammer spring and PW on 6 I was getting 977 with a lose fitting 70.7 gr. Gun is still not firing at full because it is not even as loud as the other .25 or Cedric’s .257 yesterday. So I will need to take out some valve spring so it stays open longer. I will make a new valve to start playing with instead of messing with my best .308 valve. Right now it only has a diffent stem in it and that is as far as I want to go with it.

I sized some of my .257 slugs down to .254″ and .253″. My barrel is on the lose side, right around .253″. They weigh in at 73.8 to 74.3 gr.

With the Lyman slugs it did

I would have shot more but I ran out of sized slugs by the time I got it figured out. Not using a lot of air though.

I started making this setup for .25/.257 and a larger one for .308.

Made out of 8620 bar stock. I will make a piece that will have the bottle threads on it. It will be fish mouthed and welded on to the tank.

Nice work Doug!

Looks damned good

Looks good !
Interesting design in hammer.

Had sometime to work on the .25/.257. Machined the hammer down and made a cocking knob.

Not sure if he finished valves for it. Gonna need a valve that can push enough air to make use of the barrel. I have two tanks I’d like valves for. I’ll send him an email tommorow, hopefully he responds sooner then later.
Thanks

Yeah I can make something for it. What else you think it needs to finish it? Get it I will get up and running for you.

I believe he did get the inside of the frame threaded.

Is your frame already threaded? The one thing I can’t do is thread the frame.

If I can get my setup back what would u charge to do a frame threaded moderator for a 30-31″ barrel?

Can’t wait to see results, will be interesting to know what I could expect from my 30″ .257, If it ever gets completed.
