Q:

accuracy problem Edgun Matador R3M 25

Hello,

I am from Europe.
I have Matador 25 cal standard version since yanuary 2015.
So far I fired about 3000 pellets and 4 times I cleaned barrel. Speed had set at 285 m / s and using exclusively JSB Kings. (Ed advice me) .
At chrony test standard deviation is 3 m/s, which is great.
The scope I using is Tac Vector FFP 6-25×56.
Generally I am satisfied with the rifle, but obviously I have a little problem with precision.
The best group of nine pellets at 50 meters is 35mm, which is not great result. I saw that Matador be much better

Please advice or suggestion how to improve the accuracy?

May be just shorter shroud which covers the buffles off the gun, and buffles and longer shroud on the gun.

Interesting information I would like to know more.

Marco

:hoot: :hoot: :hoot: you postulate that the baffles do not affect accuracy at all unless there is physical contact with the pellet. Sounds like your theory is not true in this case. Do you have any explanation for that?

Man, how did you test the gun without the shroud? It keeps the barrel in place.

finally works !!!!!
Yet it was the main cause of the imprecision clipping
I took off the shroud and thoroughly cleaned. Not seen traces of clipping, just fine lead dust (all buffles were as new and undamaged) .
That is why I was 100% sure that it is not clipping the cause of my problems, but here I was wrong :suprisedn:
I took off my shroud and test groups were much better. So I drilled all buffles within shraud 1mm bigger than the factory was.
Now hole is 9mm. I tested again and noticed that of my 9 rounds in magazine, 2-3 spiral flights. I reduced the speed of the existing 940 fps to 900 fps and got what I want 🙂 I have also used CHRONY and noticed that it was now extreme spread only 7 fps. Hammer is less noisy, and the noise of the shot.
I am not person who love a lot of experimenting with a gun, or any other tool. When I buy a new gun and pay a lot, I am expect that is perfect from the box. But that’s in my case it was not so, it is obvious Matador is not perfect gun, and that you have to customize it by themselves.

Here is some pictures today’s test with 70 meters (76 yards) :biggrinn: :biggrinn: :biggrinn:

Thats exactly what I was looking for, thank you very much Keyser 😀

Squirrels absolutly hate the .25, it’s absolutely devasating on them even with JSB Kings rather than JSB Predators (I can’t get groups acceptable enough past 50 yds in mine with the Predators).
The squirrels may hate me even more when the .30 turns up…. 😈

Thanks again,

The Cad

Cad that is the setting that I have found will shoot between 880 and 910 FPS at the most efficient setting on the HST. Also at this lower setting the hammer spring tension can be lessened and this will seriously reduce the hammer slap. The foot pounds difference is not really enough to worry about. The squirrels don’t seem to mind.

my tune involves taking the regulator to 125 psi A full cleaning of the regulator and a light application of new grease. Then a full cleaning of all the other little parts The next step I do is a adjust the HST to the point where the gun has no more than an ES of 4 feet per second. On the above gun prints an extreme spread of 3 FPS. I also look for regulator HST harmony by finding the point where the gun is most efficient. Some would say that the EDgun should come out of the box shooting that way. Well to that I would say there is no way for Ed and his employees to do that. The environment you are shooting at (ie weather altitude ect) play a huge part in the gun’s accuracy. So EDgun lets me decide how to fine tune the weapon to suit my needs. Honestly these guns could probably out shoot me any day out of the box but I am extremely obsessive compulsive so I can’t leave the gun alone until it’s perfect. I have learned form others before me like old goat and Ernest how to make these Russians sing. With a little understanding and some expensive tools it’s pretty easy.

Hi Keyser,

From one obsessive compulsive to another, what pellet speed are you getting with setting the reg to 125 bar ?
I’m looking at squeezing a few more shots out of my .25 R3M after shooting another thousand rounds or so (just to properly bed it all in). I know each gun is slightly different, but I’m just looking to get in the ballpark of around 890-900Fps before going down that long road to absolute perfection 😀

Many Thanks,

The Cad

quote Pippo:

Since you have “a solid vice and the gun is gripped” I would do the following:

– go indoors
– fill the air cylinder
– mount the gun on the vice
– focus on a fixed target at a reasonable distance
– take off everything that doesn’t belong to the gun (i.e. scope, rings, etc)
– take 5 shots with good quality JSB pellets making sure you don’t move the gun at all (with the R3M this is difficult 😀 )
– check your group
– maybe repeat the test with another batch of quality JSB pellets
– check your group

if the results are not reasonable/acceptable (somebody spoke about 20mm ctc at 50 meters as a reference) then send the gun back to the manufacturer asking for refund or replacement (if you have purchased it recently otherwise repair under warranty should kick in within 2 years).

IMHO it doesn’t matter if the problem eventually comes from the barrel, regulator, etc, etc. It seems you have done all the tests that are possible to do for a private customer, you have done your part, now it’s time to send it back.

the mine .25, I do this…back from Ed,and waiting now one .22

Sorry just saw Magnificient Uncle  :hoot: already gave the same advice… 😳

What kind of tuning did you do?

octavius, what is you approach to barrel polishing?

What about barrel polishing ? It could help you increase the accuracy.

No I tuned it. It is accurate out of the box but it can be made better with some fine tuning

quote huntjunky:

Touching a bit on the subject of accuracy, does anyone know if the .25 barrels have been designed in the same proprietary fashion as with the Matador .22? I know that some great pains and money have been put into the “best match” barrel by Ed and Lother Walters to obtain the best precision, with .22 JSBs. Was this process duplicated for the .25?

Yes they are the same.

here is one magazine .25 at 75 yards

Here are four different groups shot at 200 yards (three shots to the left checking wind, three to the right over doped for wind, 4 too low, two dead center) If you take the time to learn these guns you will not believe what they are capable of.

This group of 9 pellets at 75 yards are amazing :suprisedn:
if you were doing some kind of tunning or your Matador is accurate from the box?
