Q:

accuracy problem Edgun Matador R3M 25

Hello,

I am from Europe.
I have Matador 25 cal standard version since yanuary 2015.
So far I fired about 3000 pellets and 4 times I cleaned barrel. Speed had set at 285 m / s and using exclusively JSB Kings. (Ed advice me) .
At chrony test standard deviation is 3 m/s, which is great.
The scope I using is Tac Vector FFP 6-25×56.
Generally I am satisfied with the rifle, but obviously I have a little problem with precision.
The best group of nine pellets at 50 meters is 35mm, which is not great result. I saw that Matador be much better

Please advice or suggestion how to improve the accuracy?

I forgot to write that I thoroughly cleaned the barrel before shooting, I removed the shroud and there was no clipping, just fine lead dust (as in my other rifle FX Royale 400). So the problem is not in the clipping.
As for the barrel, as far as I could see through it, it is great and there is no visible damage to the point wiew eye.
I still have left to listen to Gerrard advice and use bought magazin separately 🙄

These groups are useful, and I had some excellent long range killshot, but I know that Matador can be much better and that’s why I bought it. It is very frustrating when you miss something, a few minutes before you hit the target perfectly, at same distance and same conditions

Dear Realbone,

The Edgun will consistently outshoot the best of marksmen.

The problem may not be the gun, it may be you, or some other outside factor.

Place the gun in a heavy, well anchored, solid vice or gun holder. With only your finger touching the trigger, fire several five shot groups and see what the results are. If they are tight, then it’s not the gun.

Eliminate the obvious before you spend a great deal of time searching for other causes.

Kind regards,

The Edgun can even make a senile old man look like a marksmen

If it is not you, there is some accuracy problem. Can you check the shroud for clipping? You should also look inside the barrel. BTW, Ed guarantees 20mm groups at 50 meters.

Did you used only one magazine? Some times the accuracy problem is from magazines. Try different one’s and see if there is any difference in the group size

Hello my friends

Yesterday I finaly tested my Matador. I took yours advices and went to an abandoned warehouse.
There is no wind at all,I also use solid vice and gripped the gun, I was shot from 50 meters (54 yards)
I made 4 groups of 5 JSB King 25 grains pellets and got the following results …
As you see it is better now,but not excellent like Keyser soze group 😥
Obviously my Matador has a some problem that affects the accuracy.
I discovered that it did not regulator, not me, not scope…
My logical conclusion is the barrel is problem or something else but I really do not know what ???

I believe the .25 will make a terrific Leyla. It’s not the 12″ barrel that limits it’s performance, it’s the limited air supply.

If Ed gets them to 30 fpe, as he said, they will still be dead on accurate out to 100 yards, but your shot count is going to be limited. I’m guessing 20+ shots with a 25gr JSB, in the 750 fps range…which produces 31 fpe according to the calculators. You can buy lighter .25 pellets to increase velocity, but I’ve found anything above 700 fps is generally plenty for small game under 50 yards. It’s best used with a small mil-dot scope of limited magnification.

The Leyla isn’t a high powered bench gun. It’s a tiny, silent, “Back Yard Assassin”, and will do it’s best work at close range, from cramped quarters, from under cover, a car window, or any place you probably shouldn’t be shooting. It has a place no other air gun fits into. It’s ideal for urban shooting.

My thoughts based on what I’ve heard. I may be off, but I don’t believe it will be by very much. I love this tiny beast!!!

dang, and all this time I’m been comparing them to Melons. 😯

Leadbetter what caliber did you order in the lelya.? I got mine on .20 I have had a hard time stretching the .22 past 170 yards with any consistency.

.25

Ole poot said it’ll arch like rainbow. Never really considered it for long range. Had to pass on a good deal for r3 .25 a few weeks ago would’ve made a nice long range gun.

Most of my target shooting has been with a couple S-200’s I got. Both of those shoot real well. If your not hitting the ten ring it’s wind conditions. 100 yards is as far as I’ve stretched them. But I’m comparing apples to oranges 🙂

I’m okay with wind as long as the wind is consistent. I have trouble when I have several wind events happening down range.

Crosswind at 7 o’clock kill me 🙂 haven’t tried 200 yet but guessing up drafts would really mess up your day.

Keyser and Demp make good points. It reflects the observations and results of a lot of .25 Edgun owners during the past few years.

Breech and single/multi shot action/shroud changes have never been a factor in these guns being extremely accurate at all distances.

I’ll admit that 200 yard group is very dang good for any airgun, or shooter, on this forum! My speculation is the Edgun could have done even better, but finding a shooter
of that caliber is not easily done, and conditions would need to be perfect.

Regardless of what shortcomings some owners may find, I’ve never heard of anyone who claimed they could outshoot an Edgun’s potential!

Hoot:

Keysers group is very nice. As far as conditions being perfect for shooting at 200. I would take the same approach as 1000 yard benchrest shooters do and wait for perfect wind conditions then fire off the desire amount as quickly as possible. Yet waiting the wind out for each shot would work well too.
The hardest thing I’ve had to overcome with airguns are reading the wind properly. Conditions that would throw a shot left with a rimfire will throw the shot right with a airgun. I might take my imaginary leyla out and do some shooting and testing today

It seems to me that you have cracks in the barrel

I clean my barrel rougjly between 3-5k shots. Usually just run a dozen or so Balistol coated pellets down the barrel every few hundred pellets to keep cleaning to maybe two patches. Then again mine is well seasoned with over 100k pellets down its barrel.
Take time to learn how to shoot it. The 25 does jump more when fired , it’s every bit as accurate as its little brother.
50 yds should be one slightly ragged hole
