Airmax PCP Pistol
Mine showed today took a couple shots JSB 8.44 736/736 right out of the box. Trigger stinks, seems long and gritty. Going to need a trigger block either that or degass it. Didn’t realize my finger and thumb was so fat. Has a good solid feel and fairly loud. Not going to mess with it right now.
So what’s everyone planning for sights on this?

How do these compare to a P-Rod? I guess they are louder. I have an ldc on my P-Rod and it is silent. Seems like the same power. P-Rod trigger stinks but accuracy is good with right pellet.
Anyone know the thread pitch on the barrel end? I’d like to get a ldc adapter made or try to make one myself. Don’t have a metric thread gauge handy.
Just exactly what I have been thinking. Take off the pistol grip and build it into a bullpup or compact carbine.
Is there any open sites for it?

No opens I know of. Might be able to shoot the longer distance if someone comes up with a shoulder stock.
N oW is this pistol just something to shoot paper and cans . Or can it take Sparrows and Euro Doves at 38 yards????

I’ve decided to put a rifle scope on the pistol, and shoot hunched over a bag most of the time. Given the short shooting ranges at my disposal, I went back to a Winchester 2-7×32 rifle scope: Winchester by Daisy Outdoor Products 2-7 x 32 AO Winchester Scope (Black, 2-7 x 32) from Amazon:http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002QB02EK?keywords=Winchester%20by%20Daisy%20Outdoor%20Products%202-7%20x%2032%20AO%20Winchester%20Scope%20(Black%2C%202-7%20x%2032)&qid=1456405312&ref_=sr_1_1&sr=8-1
I am familiar with this scope because I put one on my Crosman 1701P pcp pistol (with carbine stock). It meets my needs: 2-7x power, AO allows it to focus to less than 9 yards for indoor shooting in my basement. The glass is clear, and it has a quad-plex reticle. At 7x I can clearly see the center dots in the 1-inch bulls at 25 yards, not to mention the holes made by the .177 pellets pf the Crosman. The price has gone up since I bought the first scope. It’s now a whopping $40.00 USD. :biggrinn: Oh, I had already tried the original scope on the Airmax. It showed me I needed the 7x even indoors. :sadn: Now I’ll have to practice the Taco hold for free style shooting (when not using a bag).

I’ve got a couple 2x7x32 pistol scopes BSA and Hammer. I’m getting ready to sell. Another impulse purchase, I actually though I could hold a pistol steady enough I could hit some thing. 5 shots down range at 10m proved I’m definitely not pistolero.

Well, I finally got the offset scope mount I wanted. Now the scope has to be returned because it is defective. I bought it off a reputable Ebay seller, no the return is no issue. Back to square one. Dot sights don’t give me the magnification I need even at the short indoor distances I’m shooting in my basement.
Right now I’m kinda like you, I’ll stick to my pellet pen and gravity lol. unmolested air guns sell at a better price. Right now it’s to loud for shooting in the back yard. Same problem with the varmit PCP great guns just not my backyard friendly.
MIk, first looking at it, I thought the same as you, initially. But now I think if a groove is cut (or filed) into the swing gate, and thinking of the sort of pellet-tray depth I’ve seen, the pellet might sit too low to feed into the barrel. Not knowing how much material could be taken off before the “tray” was too deep to allow a smooth feed is what I’m concerned about. So,I will follow this thread and hope you keep us posted on how your experiment turns out. Meanwhile, I let gravity help me load the pistol by pointing the muzzle down.

The main breech seal is on the breech side I see no reason why you can’t cut a shallow slot directing the pellet into the breech the block sure looks to be solid aluminum. I guess I could pull the block and file the slot by hand.
Mik, I think something that lays on top of the loading gate, maybe clips in place would do the trick. It could be cast plastic. Know anyone with a 3-D pprinter? 😎 A groove would require a new gate because if the grrove were cut into the present gate, the pellet would ride too low to feed properly. That’s what I see anyway. Still a good idea. I’ve found that letting gravity help, by pointing the barrel downward works better for me than trying to insert a pellet while the gun is resting on a bag. More than one way to skin a cat, I suppose.

BTW I see a simple pellet tray in my head. It sits on the loading gate, which when open swings the tray into position. Anyone with proper equipment know how to make that happen?
Darryl
Yup a simple groove so when you drop the loading gate almost level with the bore. I thought the same thing the otherday.

Been a while since I owned a Prod. I have a friend who owns one. When he could not get decent groups I gave him a tin of H&N FTT domed pellets with the 5.53 head diameter. I din’t have any use for them so he was welcome to them. They grouped very well for him (too). As for comparing triggers, I call them even, iirc the Prod’s well enough. Both good triggers but not top-shelf in my opinion. Then both are middle-to-lower shelf products. I guess I give the slight edge to the Airmax pistol upon reflection, but I did like the trigger on the Prod. With the regulator on the Airmax pistol, shot consistency is improved over the Prod. Like the Prod power is sufficient to take small game if you can make the shot. 30 yeards is doable.

PS in looking at this spreadsheet, think 55 good shots.
