“I made this thread to help those looking to buy a Atlas bi-pod to make sure they get the real quality deal and not the Chinese knock-off that is out there. In this post I will point out some of the key things to look for to tell the difference between the two. Lets get started.

Due to the fact the mounts are interchangeable between the two, I have removed them for the pics. With that said, just because it has a real mount doesn’t make it a real Atlas.

These are the two mounts, the real ADM mount that comes on a BT10-LW17 on the left and the Chinese mount on the right.

Now on to the bi-pods themselves.

At first glance they look really similar, the real one has some dirt on it because it has been used and with great success.

Even from the other end the still look very similar, both displaying the same markings.

In fact they will both accept the different feet offered by BT for the Atlas.

But now we will get into the details where the Chinese version falls behind of the genuine Atlas.

The first and possibly easiest way to tell the difference is in the knurling on the bi-pod. The real Atlas has the regular style knurling you would expect with the little teeth sticking out for grip but as you can see the knurling on the fake is inverted offering far less grip.

When looking at the leg pivot stops you can clearly see the Atlas has nice machined edges and is thicker where as the fake is thinner, stamped, and with rounded corners.

When looking at the pivot bolt and pivot stop pin, you will notice there are slight differences between the real and fake. (real is on bottom)

And the last major difference is the fact that the real Atlas will both tilt and pan while the fake will only pan with no tilt at all.

(Now the pictures are showing an older style replica…the one from greenbase is more detailed and has the pivot motion along with a better pivot bolt….when I get my new atlas from greenbase ill post pics up for comparison)

Also be carful buying an atlas bipod off eBay, he has photos of real atlas bipod and selling for 225.00. Then he ships theses fakes the box has atlas and the bipod is stamped atlas. But the bipod is the one that greenbase sells, exactly like the one they sell. This guy has sold four or five of them but after my complaint his auction got cancelled so I think he has been stopped.

All I can say is thank you for this thread,. I bought a atlas bipod on eBay, just got it and it looked off. Was able to read about the bipod on greenbase went to their site and foun the bipod that I just bought. Am now filling a complaint with eBay and will get my 200.00 back. I had seen the cheaper knockoffs and this one is better than those so I didn’t know what to think. If I hadn’t seen this and found out about the biPods greenbase sell I probably would have had to keep it.

I have to agree – to a point. While i fully understand the frustration an inventor has to feel when/while someone takes an advantage from one’s work without having to pay anything to the originator of the idea/product i also understand why there’s such market for counterfeit products. The reason is money, pure and simple. Many people don’t have the money to buy the original or if the “next best” product is offered at a fraction of price it’s kinda hard to motivate a common consumer to not to go the knock-off way when on a market for- for this instance- a bipod.
I’d be furious if i invented something and someone on the other side of the world started to sell a knock- off at the fraction of the price without me being able to do anything about it since the thief is not bound by the laws or acts from a country that don’t much care about the international patent ruling.
But,as usual, money is the deciding factor and it rules the market – for better and worse.

WalkonKing, Glad to do it, I appreciate moderators that do what they can to keep the leeches at bay. Just took a call from a guy that thought he bought a authentic Atlas but instead got stuck with a chicom knock-off that broke, he paid 175.00 for it… Just another cost to us and consumers that the sellers of such crap could care less about.

A quote attributed to John Ruskin

“There is scarcely anything in the world that some man cannot make a little worse and sell a little more cheaply. The person who buys on price alone is this mans lawful prey.”

WalkonKing, let me know when you get ready to buy an Atlas.

Hi,

My name is Kasey and the Atlas Bipod is my baby, my name is on the patents. I found this thread looking for “fake Atlas Bipod” as is obvious we have a Chinese company(s) counterfeiting our products and as the C&P post above that I posted on another site clearly states the V7 was licensed not the V8. Neither Greenbase or Airsoft Cart have the right to manufacture any of our bipod designs. The only company that has the rights to manufacture the V7 Atlas is PTS. NOBODY has the rights to the V8 except us, B&T Industries L.L.C.

Anyone that knows they are buying a counterfeit V8 Atlas, and ALL CHINESE V8 ATLAS’S ARE COUNTERFEIT, are negatively effecting American jobs and saying to me that my God given creativity, time, money and energy creating the Atlas doesn’t matter.

My hope is that true gun guys will step up to a higher standard of conduct and pass on buying KNOWN counterfeit items regardless of what it is.

Thank you for your time and considerations.

Thanks for posting and clarifying.

I love your bipod and hope to have one some day. It really is a work of art

Much rather have U.S.A. if available, China does not care about us, nor 1/2 the stuff they make.

Lets keep the discussion to legal Atlas Bipods and not show off the counterfeits.

If you have a counterfeit bipod picture on this thread I ask you censor yourself and remove the offending posts.

We do not want to promote the knock offs….. Atlas makes a great product and deserves the business.

So please take out pictures of the fake bipods.

Here is a pic of the bipod.. I understand your frustration on the issue but how can you be mad if someone is looking for an alternative than paying 300…the bipod replica is made we’re the u.s copyright laws don’t apply….that’s why atlas took the steps to push their product to different country’s to further their copyrighted product…as I stated before I’m still waiting on my legit atlas to come in…..but don’t try and force your oppinion own someone else just because you find it wrong……if the moderator wants to close the thread than so be it.

I am far from frustrated. I am trying to show people the error in their thinking. Many are just misinformed. As an American citizen, importing counterfeit Greenbase Atlas style bipods like the one shown above is illegal. Just because they are counterfeited where USA laws don’t apply does not make it legal to import them or own them. You should not reward bad behavior or in this case illegal activity by supporting a company that is counterfeiting a patented product.

Perhaps this is best explained by showing you a comparison:
Question: Why does USA Customs seize all Chinese counterfeited Louis Vuitton luggage when discovered?
Answer: Because they are counterfeited goods and illegal to import.

Edited…

Well I got the replica bipod and its not a replica of the V8…it doesn’t have the extra lip on the pull knob to extend the legs…
It is a sturdy replica but does have it’s flaws…like the screws that hold the legs I. Place keep working its way out but a little locktite could fix.

Uh, yeah, right, sure, ok. Is that how you are able to justify buying counterfeits? Take a look at the pics above. You bought a counterfeit V8 – period. The ones that Greenbase are selling are exactly like the one shown above which are genuine Atlas bipods manufactured in the USA. Does anyone else here not understand this? Should I speak in another language?

I just need to clarify, the bipod labeled V8 is the Greenbase variety?

Thanks.
