Atlas bipod compared to Replica.

“I made this thread to help those looking to buy a Atlas bi-pod to make sure they get the real quality deal and not the Chinese knock-off that is out there. In this post I will point out some of the key things to look for to tell the difference between the two. Lets get started.

Due to the fact the mounts are interchangeable between the two, I have removed them for the pics. With that said, just because it has a real mount doesn’t make it a real Atlas.

These are the two mounts, the real ADM mount that comes on a BT10-LW17 on the left and the Chinese mount on the right.

Now on to the bi-pods themselves.

At first glance they look really similar, the real one has some dirt on it because it has been used and with great success.

Even from the other end the still look very similar, both displaying the same markings.

In fact they will both accept the different feet offered by BT for the Atlas.

But now we will get into the details where the Chinese version falls behind of the genuine Atlas.

The first and possibly easiest way to tell the difference is in the knurling on the bi-pod. The real Atlas has the regular style knurling you would expect with the little teeth sticking out for grip but as you can see the knurling on the fake is inverted offering far less grip.

When looking at the leg pivot stops you can clearly see the Atlas has nice machined edges and is thicker where as the fake is thinner, stamped, and with rounded corners.

When looking at the pivot bolt and pivot stop pin, you will notice there are slight differences between the real and fake. (real is on bottom)

And the last major difference is the fact that the real Atlas will both tilt and pan while the fake will only pan with no tilt at all.

(Now the pictures are showing an older style replica…the one from greenbase is more detailed and has the pivot motion along with a better pivot bolt….when I get my new atlas from greenbase ill post pics up for comparison)

OK, it appears that I am writing and speaking English. This is good.

To me, the comparison is showing people how good the counterfeits appear to be in comparison to the genuine Atlas bipods. We should not be encouraging this type of behavior nor supporting counterfeiters. With that in mind….

Now, what part of counterfeit, fake, unlicensed and unauthorized are some of you finding hard to comprehend?

Atlas bipods are made in the USA.

Greenbase bipods are made in China.

Atlas owns the patent and copyright.

Greenbase does not own any patent or copyright.

Atlas did not license Greenbase bipod for airsoft or any other use.

Atlas did license Magpul Asia to manufacture the older V7 for Airsfoft use.

Magpul Asia is not Greenbase nor do they sell to Greenbase.

Atlas DID NOT license the V8 which Greenbase is selling illegally.

Greenbase’s Atlas Style bipods shown on their web site and what the OP has posted in post #1 are counterfeit, fake, fraudulent, illegal, unauthorized, unlicensed and produced without authorization and any compensation to the USA patent holder what-so-ever.

Now, if anyone does not understand any of that I feel very sorry for you.

And to the Moderator – you were correct in pulling the thread. Whomever coaxed you into republishing it is wrong. They’re counterfeit. Take it to the bank.

Photo’s of the difference between the V7 & V8 to follow in next post.

I blame the old guy from Norway for this extravagant purchase. His beautiful pictures are irresistible. 🙂 $502 + $15 shipping for the bips from SWFA with discount. Something to do for Fathers Day weekend.

I And just FYI — I don’t know the legality for shipping them outside of the USA but if I were able to, here are the USPS charges to Europe:
Express = $50
Priority = $25
And you can ship 2, 3 or 4 of them for a slight additional charge thus reducing your shipping costs when divided among each unit. Quite reasonable if you ask me.

Apparently you and I live in different worlds………. 😉

This is the best offer I’ve found on EBay (- and the only one who would ship to Norway):

Somebody is obviously trying to make a profit from the lack of supply………

The Accu-Shot list price is USD 279,95……

From the above you’ll see the total (before 25% VAT here) is more than USD 100 higher than the US-price……….. 🙁

I don’t think this US-shipper’s approach is helping the US economy much. On the contrary, – he will most likely send loads of people straight into the arms of the Chinese… 😥

How this shipper is able to ship world wide is another issue, – not even Amazon accepts to ship this to Norway………. 🙄

Cheers
Trygve 😀

PS: Btw I just got my shipment from Accu-Shot, – turned up out of the blue……. 😀 (no bipods though ….)

Actual shipping is what I quoted earlier. What resellers charge over that is just business. If I were shipping these, my charge would be as quoted. Some people need to add profits to everything. I feel your pain. 😉

I just noticed the paint job on the stock.

After reviewing the thread and the information in the quotes here. I will let the thread return. The company says it is a licensed Airsoft version of their bipod.

“First of all, B&T products including the Accu-Shot monopods and Atlas bipods will never be made “off-shore” they will always be made here in the USA.

Second, ZERO jobs were lost by this agreement with PTS, in fact we have hired 5 more people in the last 45 days.

Third, we licensed one company, PTS, to make airsoft B&T products and part of this agreement was they would mark the items as such along with their logo. PTS is legitimate, they do business like any other legitimate company, they are a vendor at SHOT show and have contractual agreements with several well known, well financed firearm corporations. They are our partner in that part of the world and as such they will fight that fight against the pirates making the knock off seen in the OP. Without PTS we would have nobody to count on to defend our products over there.

Fourth, “ATLAS” is a copyright we own and is enforceable inside the USA, those importing these fakes do have a liability we will pursue.

Also, KUSA – you stated; “Hell, my real Atlas broke and it costed me more to get it fixed than one of these fakes cost new.” We do not charge to repair our bipods, so total cost to consumer is the postage to return it. If you were charged ANYTHING please show me this and you will be refunded.

seanh, the only part of your post I can agree with is “If you have a product worth copying and it’s made in China, it WILL BE COPIED.” And this is one reason I joined a partnership with PTS!!! They are in Hong Kong and with them having a vested interest in our products for THEIR Airsoft line, they will strive to protect their interests and thus protecting B&T’s against fakes. We are not exporting the manufacturing of our products, simply licensed PTS to manufacture Airsoft versions that will be marked as such.

I have no idea what you are suggesting we do; “….and find someone else here in the states, Mexico, Philippines, Taiwan.’ for what? B&T is not outsourcing labor so what are we going to Mexico, Philippines, Taiwan for?

PTS is licensed to make AIRSOFT products that replicate our products, these are not fakes, they are licensed and will be clearly marked as AIRSOFT with their logo. Airsoft is a huge deal in the rest of the world where real firearms are not allowed but consumers want the look of the “real thing”. And trust me PTS is doing a great job on their product line that include some of the biggest names in the industry.

The sample shown in OP photos is a fake and I am not “OK with fakes”.

Again, there are American companies that are using our ideas without compensation to B&T, so how is that any different than the “Chinese”?”

So as you can read…atlas did make and agreement with an offshore company to make atlas bipods…they are real and legal to sell as long as they print the airsof company’s logo on them….so the thread I posted wasn’t going against any rules or trying to convince people to buy the cheaper one over the expensive one…it was only a comparison made by another person that I found interesting and decided to share among us that we’re having some sort of discussion on the same matter….I’d just like a reason for the removal.

That’s Wal-Marts business model. 😕

I don’t think it’s wrong for anyone to try to seek out alternatives when they reside outside of the USA. I’ll repeat, when they reside outside the USA especially when said products are not available to them. However, when the item is readily available to USA citizens and those people seek out the counterfeits is when something is definitely wrong.

My initial intention is to buy the atlas regardless of that hideous price….I have airsoft guns along with other pellet rifles…buying a knock off honestly is a better choice being that I’m not a competition shooter or have rifles which I feel needs a 200+ bipod….if you guys think a real atlas bipod is needed for my matador…my wallet is open for donations…lol…but I don’t see the need is a real one right now when I can get a airsoft version for 1/4 of the price.
My edgun has a $40 Harris on it right now and does what I need…so a $40 airsoft atlas might do just that and maybe more.

For all USA citizens, you can buy all you want here:
http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_odkw=&_osacat=73959&_trksid=p2045573.m570.l1313.TR10.TRC1.A0&_nkw=atlas&_sacat=73959&_from=R40

Let’s call a spade, a spade — when you can buy a counterfeit for 20% of the genuine article, that’s all the motivation some require. It’s a shame but how would you like it if someone knocked off your livelihood and your patented product?

I wasn’t paying attention to the thread but there was a joker saying something about duplicating the Edgun and he was met with great disdain. In fact, he was banned and there is now a sticky about it:
http://www.talonairgun.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=22&t=26824

Is there a difference between that and the Atlas bipods?

And just FYI — I don’t know the legality for shipping them outside of the USA but if I were able to, here are the USPS charges to Europe:

Hey machine, trust me my local gun shop only deals in U.S made products and being that he’s close that’s we’re i shop….most of the time the items I buy are all American made….but on the rare days that I need something Andy shop doesn’t have it I shop online…now as zoco said the accu shot website had said for a few months now that they need to finish their contracted order before selling to civilians again…so buying direct from them is out of the question….the next is eBay…and as zoco ALSO said the shipping prices are outrageous. I’m not an anti-American and buying something for just plain esthetics isn’t bad…as for patents go…patents only work in the region you patented it for…U.S patents don’t hold water in china/hong kong that’s why everything is replicated over there…but from what I read accu shot signed a contract with a company from china to make airsoft replica bipods which say airsoft or replica printed on the bipod itself..

As much as I agree with MachineGun in the above, I would just like to mention that I have ordered (and paid) a few pieces including a monopod directly from Accu-Shot in the US a loooong time ago, – and they don’t seem to have the desire, capacity or will to ship anytime soon…….. 😉

Also I challenge you to find a shipper with a good supply of Accu-Shot items on Ebay that would ship anywhere else than the US without some impossible shipping charges (if they at all will ship outside the US that is….. 🙁 )

Add to that the export restrictions on “tactical gear” put up by the US Government, – and those restrictions apply even for export to their NATO allies……….. 🙄

There’s always another side to the story……….. 😀

Hmmmm, Atlas is patented.
Atlas is USA made.
Replica is counterfeit.
USA made -vs- China made.
China is unscrupulous
We are in recession.
7.5% ++++ unemployment.

Yep, I think I’ll order a counterfeited replica of an American made patented product. NOT!

The info being presented is useful and thank you for the insight. It should not be used for a comparison about how good the knock-offs are in relation to the genuine article.

I can perhaps see non USA citizens purchasing them but to see USA citizens purchasing them and doing so this blatantly is horrendous.

My opinion. This is a disgrace. I’m done.

I´m sure those will work fine. While you were at it you should´ve ordered some extra mounts as well. Those Leupold look-a-like´s and some of their other QD weaver (or dovetail) mounts are really good. Cost a fraction of UTG/Weaver/Leupold etc.

I can’t wait!
From the look at the pics from gb, the pivot bolt looks thincker than the pics of the fake one above.
I was also worried of the legs not being ble to stay in place or slipping into the next notch.
