Another quick update on my Gen 1 .30. 220 bar fill, 25 shots, 874 avg, 3.8 SD. Over 1000 rounds now. :8:

Holy shit! Its been almost a week and a half since I had to take my .30 apart. All I have had to do is fill it. I am officially bored now! :rofl: :rofl:

I de-tensioned the barrel and rotated the baffles until they lined up. I did not need to hone the baffle holes

How did you open them up and by how much? Did you just go thru and do them all? My Gen 1 has 7 baffle plates including the exit;

You have to remember I got the gun shot it out of the box for my first video I never changed the settings. The gun was an absolute dream. Best EDgun I have ever owned as far as ES. I wasn’t about to monkey with it. What would I?. Then the valve problem. At the point of the valve problem I wasn’t looking for accuracy, I was looking at function. So when I noticed the spiraling that I reported to you at high pellet speed I wasn’t focused on a cause because I had a valve to fix.
I just talked to an EDgun international dealer and he sent me some video of absolute perfection in flight from 890-930 with the R3. He also had baffle strikes before repair.
It looks like non concentric moderator may cause pellet spiralling. However I think that every pellet should spiral in that case regardless of the speed. Am I wrong here?
Shooter, not a lot but 3 people have contacted me about the issue. All but one was resolved with the offset being adjusted or bored out.
Maybe the choke is too tight if it gets leaded often. I would not blame JSB .30. It is almost always a combination of a barrel and a pellet.
So Keyser, a lot of people complain about spiralling above 880 FPS in .30 cal?

Keyser I think you got my first post wrong.
There is nothing wrong in seeking for accuracy and being your own gunsmith specially on airguns like the Edgun where very often you are on your own.
What I wanted to say is that I consider it disappointing needing to do a lapping on a barrel that is supposed to be match grade in order to make it shoot properly and that probably the “today’s match grade” is no longer what it was used to be.

Well for a rifle (firearm) I use a lead cast and 600-1200 bore lapping compound. For an airgun I use JB bore paste, three felt pellets of the same caliber, and Kroil Oil. Use a jag designed for this task. I finish with Flitz polish. This is very labor intensive so don’t PM me, I will not lap a barrel for you. :rofl:
I do not know if it was a baffle strike or a bore that was not perfectly smooth that caused spiraling at higher speeds. I didn’t check these items one at a time like I should have. I have been messaged a lot from different people complaining about spiraling pellets in the .30 so I had it in my mind that it was the barrel. That is a mistake I won’t make again. Here is the thing about .30 pellet guns. The projectiles suck. JSB .30 pellets are all over the place in terms of weight and head size. When fired they leave a lot of lead in the choke. So a good polish if done right will only help.
I do not agree with you guys. Accuracy is not an accident, the shooter is responsible for the performance of his equipment. This is why marksmanship is so difficult. At some point to achieve excellence you’ll have to become your own gunsmith.

Keyser, please describe the lapping procedure. Looks like you can pass over 880 FPS without spiralling. Question is if the shroud realignment helped or barrel lapping.
I have lapped every single match grade barrel I have owned when I used to care about Xs and Os. I think there is a benefit.

Not yet but I am looking to scratch that itch pretty soon. I’ve recovered a few 44 and 50gr pellets from some old company catalogs and they were turned inside out and fragmented. Its just a bit to large for my AO (suburbs)
