Attn: People with Custom Stocks from Michal Osyda….V2

:hoot:

I strongly suggest holding off on ordering, until I can report further developments.

My order arrived yesterday (Friday 10/21/17). I got quite a surprise…and it wasn’t shipping related.

I will explain more later! For now…patience. I want to give Michal every reasonable opportunity to respond to the email and pics I sent him yesterday. His customer support has been extremely courteous and timely up to now. Whatever happens, it will be informative and interesting about ordering stocks from Poland, and how well they stand behind their product.

I agree with Greg , Osyda isn’t new to wood working and he took a chance on a pretty looking piece of wood that really
should not have been used . I’m sure that he inspected the stock before he shipped it and knew that the cracks where
there and shipped it anyway hoping that the cracks would go unnoticed . Poor business practice on his part . A business
is built on pride of workmanship and quality of the product sold . Osyda should replace the stock , it was not worth the
money that was paid for it , that is what business integrity is all about . :8: :8: :8:

hum …. a crying shame …. a poor wood source if you ask me, improper kilning and or cutting/dissecting of the timber, an end cut.

But as a wood worker you are responsible in properly selecting of your wood.
An old wood carving method before diving into such a time consuming artistry is to wet the wood in question with denatured alcohol, any crack and dry rot spots will easily show up as darken areas.

You took it upon yourself to mess with the stock and now you want him to send you a new one? Unbelievable! And now you’re trying to call him out and shame him into sending a new stock? You should have waited for a response to see what he can do for you. Shame on you! Shame!

Sorry too hear this Uncle Hoot……
My holes 4 the stock were just a little bit off, on mine.

I just used a rasp on my stock no biggie.
But was not off like yours, he should replace it with the cracks & all on it.

It’s a shame it looks very nice, I like it with the checkering.

Long time ago I bought some wood carvings in the Philippines, many of which cracked later within a year. I was told by an expert that if the wood is not dried long enough this can…and will happen. The items I bought were tourist stuff, but I was told that high-end art pieces would have been carved from a properly aged wood by reputable makers.

Now, I do not know much (if any) about wood, and since it seem to have arrived cracked already to you before you carved it up, in my opinion Michal should replace it….period. I personally would not have carved it up until I hear back from him. However, let’s see if Michal has our Western customer service standards.

Hope it works out well at the end…but either way at least you have a nice stock that you should enjoy. Let’s hope don’t have to unleash the fury! :angrymob:

OK…it’s unfair not to let you in on the details.

I received the stock Friday, opened it and found the Mutant Shorty would not fit into the stock. It apparently had been cut for a different action, perhaps a standard stock???

At first I thought it was a “high spot”, or a miscut, but then I realized the two screw holes didn’t line up with the Mutant’s mounting holes. The opening in the stock was cut too far forward, by at least 1/2 inch.

I’m not about to return the stock to Poland, so I got out the trusty Dremel and wood chipping bit and opened up the back end and widened the slots mid-stock. I finally got the action to drop down into the stock, but the trigger was barely visible and the safety was completely out of sight. That’s when I realized I would have to hollow out the bottom of the stock at the trigger site to get the trigger and safety down where I could reach them.

After two hours of grinding I finally got the action to fit into the stock and it fit nicely, that’s when I noticed the cracks in the butt of the stock. There are three of them, one which extends around to the cutout section in the stock. Pictures below. They are hairline fractures apparently from the wood continuing to age and dry.

These three pics show the hairline fractures, the big one extending around into the stock cutout…

These pics show the extend of “excavating” I had to do to get the Mutant action into the stock. First pic shows major cuts to get safety to drop down into the trigger opening…and I had to round out the opening so my finger can reach the safety. It’s not pretty, but it’s also not visible!

It still didn’t fit properly, so I had to move the entire action to the rear by cutting out the wood at the rear of the stock.

Here is the only evidence I have of the need to make major alterations in the cutouts in the stock. Now I have the right fit, I have to repair a couple of wood “dings’ I made with the dremel. A bit of sanding and oil should take care of them.

It’s a beautiful stock, miscut, hairline fractures, but I really like the design and checkering, and it fits like a glove…now. I can’t say I’m real happy with the result. I was expecting a “drop-in” stock, no fuss, no bother. It just didn’t turn out that way for me. Perhaps others have had better luck.

I sent Michal all the above pics, and a few more, with a lengthy explanation yesterday. As of today…no response.

Due to the nature of his business I am giving him the benefit of a doubt. He doesn’t read his emails every day…he’s busy. So, I am not drawing any negative conclusions about his customer support. Time will tell. Up to this point he seemed to take a personal interest in my order. I have hopes he will replace the stock…but I’m not holding my breath on that. The hairline fractures are my main concern. I don”t believe there is any way to cover them up on an oiled stock with the grain showing through.

Thoughts on this anyone???

If shipping wasn’t the issue with Hoots’ stock and he had to contact the maker in Poland , than one can only assume that
the stock itself is the problem .

it wasn’t shipping related? Now you got my interest up! I’ll wait patiently for whatever it is, hope it works out for you
