Bandsaw
I went to Harbor Freight to check out the tumbler’s and came out with this on sale –
It barely fit my trunk and then was a b&%$h to get assembled…. Worse than the mill and lathe.
But its worth it not having to use a hacksaw or reciprocating saw and then spending ages cleaning stuff up in the lathe !

I bought one of those when they were on sale. I used it for about a week and went through about 6 blades. They would just snap, always at the weld. I think I must have had a bad machine because I tried every adjustment and setting I could and was never happy. They were all Harbor Freight blades so that was probably the reason.
I started looking on Craigslist and finally found an old American made bandsaw for only 150 bucks. Hell, that was less than I paid for the other one. I took it back for a refund and went and bought the other one. It is way to big for my garage but I can cut just about anything with it.

The one they sell here at Tractor Supply is a good unit, and less money than the Harbor Freight.
YN, HF sells a bi-metal, but it sucks too. Just order a Sterrett or Die-MasterII from Lenox. The best place to buy so far is enco. The whole sale division of MSC. If you don’t have the catalog, let me know. They can be found at http://www.use-enco.com

One thing for sure Lennox blades as far as sawsalls go are the shit.
A saw can be a good saw, but without a good blade it is shit.
So Ninj, go get some good blades, Harbor Freight has no idea what a good blade is, and that machine will work.

Dude, aren’t you MOVING? I thought you’d be lightening the load, not stocking up 🙂 How much?? I”ve been wanting one for ages, the cost isn’t too bad, but everyone has been horrendous on the shipping to get the thing here to hawaii 🙁

Thats just like the ones we have at our carbon plant.
Do NOT cut a carbon tube with that. It will cut it, but the blade will dull in one pass.
Works great for everything else though.
We got another that you hold like a chainsaw, sorta. Not precision, but allows you to cut metal you otherwise couldnt clamp into the saw.
one good mod for the saw is to get a piece of duct that goes to like a vent in your house and attatch it to the underside of where the blade cuts with a screw or something in it and attatch a bucket to it .it will catch almost all of the metal and fluid makes cleanup alott easier

I’m glad it isnt just me – I spent ages looking in the box trying to find screws that WOULD fit, and ended up just going to the hardware store and buying more 16x1mm the RIGHT length.
Knife/Adam – I’ve ordered some bimetal blade’s, just have to wait for them to show up.
I use mine all the time and am thankful how much time it saves me. I use a bimetal blade from Starret.
That works great and makes using the saw a pleasure.
