Christ hung like a horse….. Is this crucifix pornographic?
Apparently a church in Oklahoma hung this 10 foot crucifix above their alter that is supposed to show Jesus with a “distended abdomen”. What do you think?

Well, he gave a clear warning thousands of years ago to not just follow what someone tells you is right but to read the bible to learn what to do. It would be worse if he just sprang the bad news on us.
Just like Nuglor said just going to church does not make you a christian, following his teaching does.
If you want to receive the benefits, which are many, you have to be a true servant.
I can see how that might seem callous to some but if you really take a look at the facts it really isn’t.
What would you give to never have to worry about crime? Having enough food for your family? Never get the least bit sick? Never having to die?
These are all promises in Bible. I personally think that is worth the effort to live up the Bible standards.
I hope I am not coming off to preachy but its the truth.

I live 5 blks. from that church here in Oklahoma City. I also go there to vote. That ain’t the only “weird” picture in that church. I wish I could vote elsewhere.
Going to church no more makes you a christian than going swimming makes you a fish…..
and I’m not born again…. I was born right the first time. :6
Just something to think about.
Jesus sounds like a nice chap. π
You certainly have received a good education mdimdi. So many who claim to be all knowing about the Bible are so ignorant of it or maybe just chose to believe what they like to think it means without any fact checking.
Looking back on your original post, I see that I misinterpreted what you were really trying to say. A closer scrutiny would have prevented that mistake. Sorry if I made you feel as if you were being critical of the Church as a whole. There is plenty to be critical of much of what passes as “Christian” however, as you state in your posts (especially about the apostasy). I know of a pastor who says that “He believes that there is no Hell, because he can’t see his gay friends being sent there just for their lifestyle”. There are plenty of self-serving people out there who claim to be Holy. But then again, on the bright side, there are plenty of good people like you out there as well. You would think that the current media would acknowledge that, but then again… they are not exactly all that “Fair and Balanced” are they… well, maybe one source a bit more than the others… most of the time…..
God Bless all…. especially my fellow TAG members.
So mdmidi… what type of airguns are you into? (Start a new post for that.. not exactly germain to the current subject in any way…. unless of course you can find a passage that suggests what type of airgun Jesus had… LoL!)

I am a Bible student and have been a minister since 1982.
I only commented on this post because the Bible is about the only area I know fairly well. I am amazed how much people here know about air rifles and firearms as well.
I was just hoping to contribute some of what I have learned.

Great post mdimdi… very informative.
Sounds as if you are a Bible scholar, perhaps a seminary student?

Saying that the cross is derived from some Pagan origin is a bit of a stretch as it actually simply directly originates from the physical cross used by the Romans to … well… crucify people. .
I would like to make it clear that I am a Christian. I am not attacking Christianity.
If you do some research you will find that the Encyclopedia Americana speaks of the cross being in religious use in ancient china and Persia as well as Babylon. That well predates the Roman empire. The reason it is important is that Jesus himself said in Mark chapter 7 βIt is in vain that they keep worshiping me, because they teach as doctrines commands of men.β Letting go the commandment of God, You hold fast the tradition of men.β
So if we start changing and adding to what the Bible says we are worshiping in vain!
I will point out that in Acts chapter 20 Paul said βI know that after my going away oppressive wolves will enter in among You and will not treat the flock with tenderness, and from among You yourselves men will rise and speak twisted things to draw away the disciples after themselves.β
So there was a warning that apostasy was going to enter the congregation. I think you will find this scripture kind of telling of what was to come. Does this sound like any religions you know of?
1 Timothy chapter 7 verse 1 says βHowever, the inspired utterance says definitely that in later periods of time some will fall away from the faith, paying attention to misleading inspired utterances and teachings of demons, 2 by the hypocrisy of men who speak lies, marked in their conscience as with a branding iron; 3 forbidding to marry, commanding to abstain from foods which God created to be partaken of with thanksgiving by those who have faith and accurately know the truth.β So it is possible to think we are Christians and doing what is right but if we donβt follow what the bible says then Jesus will say I never knew you like I said in my first post.
Just something to think about.
X2 Buzzcat!!
The cross has many other interpretations, including Native American Indian, which also has the “swastika” as a common design theme in pottery.
Saying that the cross is derived from some Pagan origin is a bit of a stretch as it actually simply directly originates from the physical cross used by the Romans to … well… crucify people. It is not always the one commonly thought of that looks like a lower case “t”. Other Roman crosses used for execution were shaped like a capital “T”.
Just the facts….
Now as far as the Easter egg is concerned, that is an adaptation from paganism or some such non-Christian origin. So is the “Christmas Tree” (Druid). But, the re adaptation of or the common use of similar symbols by many religions is not uncommon. Especially the simple ones like crosses (some are + shaped), circles, squares, combinations of each, etc. etc. Some of it done intentionally to try to reinterpret old themes to bring in converts. The Catholic church is famous for this in regions that they “converted”. (not to mention outright murder as in South America as far as the Incas, etc. are concerned)
I do wonder if the designer of that artwork had a phallic interpretation intended or not.. It certainly looks that way as it is not a very accurate interpretation of a “six-pack”.
Personally, I’m a bit tired of all the slagging that Christianity has been getting over the last few years. True, in some respects it’s deserved, everyone has their faults, but the relentless piling-on is getting obscene in it’s tone and tenor.
But I guess it figures, Christianity is the easiest target…. you can’t make fun of the Muslims ‘cuz they’ll cut your head off in front of a video camera, and you can’t make fun of the Jews ‘cuz they won’t fund your movie project or refinance your house. π
Wow that was corny. π
I guess that’s the kind of shlong you can get if you are “in” with the guy making people.
Well then you will be happy to know that the hellfire doctrine is also completely man made. There is no bible support for its existence. So I guess that is one less thing for you to worry about. π

Jesus told us to read the Bible? I bet that would be news to Constantine π
Religion has its place. It just so happens to be in the portion of the human mind that wants to believe in “Magical Thinking”
