How do you unscrew the valve on a co2 adapter….?????? 😯

During my scuba instructor days, I would routinely fill scuba tanks with our shop compressor. CO2 is compressed as well. Compression of any gas requires several steps and parts to arrive at the end product.

All compressors have filters to get air-borne contaminants out, and use hydraulic fluids in their mechanisms. Our filters were not changed according to the recommended intervals and got dirty, the hydraulic fluids became contaminated, seals became compromised, and oil began to leech into the air pumped into the tanks.

We ended up emptying dozens of tanks, changing the compressor filter, hydraulic fluid, seals, and refilling everything from scratch. Took days to remedy.

This was my experience. I have no dog in this discussion. It just shows that somewhere down the production line from a full CO2 tank, there are a lot of things to go wrong. While it may be very rare, shit still happens.

Been looking, but the old-school paintball type ASA filters seem to be history. Basically a circle of metal mesh, reported to be a 5 micron filter, that fit between the co2 ank the the marker…work fine on co2 “tankers” as ell, but they damned things don’t seem to be offered for sale any more. Happed to have a few from paintball markers, and they got out to use on tanker co2 rifles (including the Talon SS)

If I find them for sale again, will post a heads up…seems like cheap insurance.

Have to say, have found a few odd pieces of funk” caught in the screeen when changing bottles…could be disintrigrating bottle 0-rings or could be crap in the co2, haven;t got any way of telling.

For the ones tanks set up to fill with a fill nipple (or HPA tanks) Bob Long has filtered fill nipples (they have a little filter in the fill nipple itself) which seems like a good idea. Do not know their pressure rating for HPA or PCP, but they get used on some bulk fill co2 guns.

All of the valve leaks I’ve had co2 and air have been from not enough spring pressure on the delrin valve seat or, the valve seat isnt seated properly on the v.stem. The new valve design has a very tight v.seat /v.stem fit. I have had the delrin on and off the stem 2 and 3 times and reseat with no leaks but, the old design is a one shot deal unless you can kick up some metal to grab the delrin again. The CO2 adapters seem to all have the old style valves. I guess A.F. had to use their remaining stock somewhere 🙁

Wow Walter…..You have been compared to Don G and SteveNC and
yet you still don’t get the hint….

If you’re not going to help or add anything positive to the post, go
build on another gun….People that are trying to get something
fixed don’t need you looking down your nose telling them how wrong they
are….
BTW…You still haven’t supplied any of that great information you say
you have on clean co2…I think you’re full of dirty co2 and hot HPA…..

QB78 has one because they are a copy of the Crosman 160

Does the Disco have one? Does the 1077, 2250xt? 850? Gamo?

If I was a betting man the screen and filter date from an era when bulk CO2 was in fact dirty and the seal design could not tolerate any particles.

Mam, are you not the OP? what has this got to do with the guy with dirty CO2 causing his valve to leak?

Adam, think of teh size of the particles that would be causing a problem in your example… they are ‘bubbling’ CO2. Do you have a guess how small those dirty particles are???? microns. Do you actually believe that that would cause a problem with a valve that opens 1,000s of times more than a bubbler?

MA957 Clogged Needle Valve Repair Procedure
Over time dirty CO2 gas flowing through the regulator will start to deposit dust and dirt in the small gas line located inside the needle valve. When these deposits become large enough the gas flow becomes restricted and eventually will stop. When you add more gas pressure, forcing the gas pass the inline restriction, the flow will start back but as the backpressure subsides the gas flow and bubble count will also diminish and will again eventually stop. This yo-yo effect causes the operator to apply even more pressure from the large black main regulator knob (Macro adjustment) until the backpressure is so high that the solenoid will not close, even when power to the solenoid is turned off. This high backpressure in the solenoid piston chamber will allow gas to continue to flow through the regulator dropping the pH to 5.5 causing a catastrophic effect on all biological life in a tank.
Field repair procedure – Turn the tank off and take the regulator off the tank. Take the bubble counter off the regulator needle valve. Open the needle valve all the way open by turning the knob counter-clockwise until it stops.
Use a 1/16” drill and go through the top hole of the needle valve and drill through the base of that hole until you feel the drill pass through into the main chamber. Drill time is only about 2 seconds at full drill speed. Turn the regulator over and tap the needle valve on a table to knock out the drill filings. Remount the regulator. Note: If 1/16” drill is not available then go to next size which is a 5/64” drill bit.
