Q:

Condor 18" tony tuned

I ran a shot across the chrony today and got 1154fps with PW on 7…This thing sounds like a .22 mag. without a shroud…I will be really impressed if a shroud can quiet this thing down..Cross your fingers Don G..Wow!

varminter you link isn’t the right one, here is the one for the calculator 😉

I have looked and played with a bunch of these and I can not find the perfect one that takes elevation as well as temperature in to account 😥 do you know of one that dose both?

The sound barrier is about 1100 fps. 1128 fps is the exact answer at sea level at 70 degrees F. This depends on the air temperature (since Air is a gas). You can dynamically find the results, though, by using this online calculator; http://hyperphysics.phy-astr.gsu.edu/hbase/sound/souspe.html.

Just turn it down below the speed of sound and you’ll be okay. This will also help your accuracy. Once the pellet goes over the sound barrier you will hear a loud crack and then when it slows down and drops back below the speed barrier, something else happens… you lose accuracy. This is why accuracy suffers when you shoot over 1100 fps. Your accuracy doesn’t suffer from breaking the sound barrier, it’s when your pellet goes back down below the speed of sound that will hurt accuracy in a pellet gun because this is when the pellet will start to tumble. You can keep it accurate at short distances because you haven’t dropped below but accuracy will suffer at longer distances. A shroud will quiet your airgun but you’ll still hear the loud crack when you break the sound barrier. Do your calculations and keep it below and you’ll be okay.

I have 6 500 count tins of Kodiaks on the way…I like the way you think….Thanks

if I was you I would just get some beeman kodiaks

and some eunjins

http://www.pyramydair.com/cgi-bin/pellet.pl?pellet_id=194

those will keep you slow enough

JSB diablo exact Jumbo 15.8grn

what pellets are you playing with?

if it came from tony the p/w is in it’s sweet spot and I wouldn’t mess with that or the tophat.

That surely makes sense….I will try lowering the PW tomorrow to see what the lowest FPS is or at least try to get it down in the 800’s..I mostly want accuracy and consistancy. Power is not that big of a deal although, it is nice to have….
Thanks for the info get the blue jay. I was very much doubting that this thing could be quieted to a reasonable level no matter who made the shroud….

1154 fps….. I hate to tell you this, but a shroud will not help you with the pellets you are shooting. you are going to have to step up to something heavier and get them speeds down below the sound barrier.

there is just nothing you can do when this is happing with the led your slingin
