Could it be possible that using a Shroud for a 24″ barrel with an 18″ barrel could be causing accuracy problems? I am just not impressed with the groups I am getting at any psi or PW setting….The POI is all over the place….The fps is consistantly getting lower with each shot by an avg of about 4 fps. There will be a few times that 3 to 4 shots group well but the rest are just don’t live up to the AirForce reputation…..I have checked and double check every screw and everything is tight and staying tight….I have run out of things to test….Need some creative troubleshooting methods…..

even if everything is lined up. that is alot of open area to travel thru before it exits the end cap. any small movements can cause the pellet to clip before leaving the end. I damaged a baffle one day while trying to take a running shot on a squirell. After that I opened the diamtere up to .30 instead of .25 . did’nt notice any more sound either.

I finally figured out a sure fix for the clipping on the shroud with my 18″ barrel…I stuck my laser bore sight in the barrrel then slipped the shroud on, covered the hole in the shroud with a piece of paper so I could see where the hole was then started turning the shroud until the laser was in the middle of the hole in the shroud….It worked….Now I can do some testing with the 18″….Thanks again for all the help and advise everyone….
I thought about opening it up some but decieded not to
open that can of worms….It works fine with the 24″…
So I am happy for now…..I am not sure who’s shroud it is……
Are you going to open up the endcap more? Who’s shroud is it?

You are clipping. Did you sharpie the end cap and see if there is even the tiniest of marks?

From what I can see and I have tried turning the shroud every which way but loose (you old guys will remember that movie) and it doesn’t look like it ever lines up with the 18″ barrel in there…Looks like plan B. Keep shooting the 24″ until I decide to do something else….I will also check the shroud for any clipping when I put the 24″ back in….Well a HUGE!!!!

Ok…I have the 24″ barrel with the shroud. 2,400psi
fill pressure, PW2. Starting fps 1090 with Kodiak heavy
and ended at 1019fps. Chrony was reading off and on
due to clouds so, I didn’t get a reading on every shot….
This the 18″ barrel and shroud kodiaks from yesterday…
This is the 24″ barrel and shroud….Virtually same conditions
for both except one group is JSB…
Group 1 is 2 1/4″. Group 2 is 1 3/8″. Group 3 is 1 1/2″. and
group 4 is a total debockle @ 3″…
They look somewhat more uniform and tighter….Maybe
I’ll have to settle for the fact that I suck more than I was
willing to admit….
Tell me what you think….I am going to tear down the rifle
now, clean everything, make sure everything is lined up
with no possibility of clipping, and give the 18″ a try to
compare the results….Stay tuned. We will have more

Look forward to reading your findings as I have experienced a quite a few cases on pcp rifles where factory and aftermarket shrouds, brakes, muzzle weights, etc. dramatically improved or destroyed accuracy. Its been amazing to see how the slightest of changes can make a big difference…

Thanks critter and Tony…I put 2 layers of clear packing tape around the butt of the shroud and it fits really snug now. I will take it apart and clean the inside of the frame and the hammer and put the 18″ barrel back in, then tape up the shroud tip and see where it goes from there…I haven’t shot it with the 24″ barrel and shroud yet so that will be the first test of the day and go from there with the rest of the trouble shooting tips on the list…Stay tuned for end of the day results…

First, I’d put a piece of paper or masking tape, it may take a couple layers of tape or heavy paper stock, tight over the endcap of the shroud and shoot a pellet and see if it punches cleanly through the middle or if it tears a key hole or non circular hole in it, indicating clipping.
Second, Shrouds, LDC’s etc. can affect accuracy adversely due to barrel harmonics, turbulence as much as they can improve harmonics and turbulence and accuracy…
If you can shoot it without the shroud, see how it groups. Good luck!

Thanks j3magnum…That is a definate possibility…..I put my 24″ barrel back in to make sure it wouldn’t clip and I have a shroud for the 18″ ordered so I won’t be using the 18″ until I get the shroud….
