Cricket Carbine-PIC HEAVY-1/9/14Updated groups

I entered a contest Steve was promoting from WWAG. I was 2nd out of 3 contestants…nice odds! Anyhow he gave the option of getting a gift cert for the retail value of the prize. In my case I had won a Webley Raider, I took the gift cert and put that towards a Cricket Carbine. Steve included some nice schwag as well…thanks!

You guys have a lot to learn about shooting them Chrony´s …

Ville´s rule # 1 : Always make sure you shoot someone else´s Chrony – just like i did with Dr. Evil´s  It´s sooo much cheaper in the long run .
Ville´s rule # 2 : Shoot to kill ! Have some common courtesy and make the first shot count so the damn device is dead when you approach it.
Ville´s rule # 3 : If you failed # 2 a well placed follow-up pellet will put that damned device outta its misery .

Yes, I ran about 12 patches through the barrel. Didn’t seem that bad to me? I’m new to shooting period. Never hunted much more than a few rabbits and squirrels as a kid, and have never hunted as an adult. So, it’s a learning experience for me to get my marksmanship up to par.
Just bought an el cheapo Gamo for $50 back the end of September on a whim and got the bug. And here I am 3 to 4 months later buying a darn $1500 pellet rifle? Isn’t that crazy? I’ve got over $4000 tied up in pellet rifles,Hand pump, Shoebox, SCBA tank w/fill hose assy, and 5 pellet rifles and scopes? Heck it’s more that $4000, but I don’t even want to think about it!!!!LOL
Looking back, I have no regrets for the joy it brings me, but dang it…I gotta slow down.
Crap, I forgot about the hundreds of dollars of pellets, F-1 Chorny which I shot BTW, Caldwell Matrix rifle rest, gun cases, targets, etc etc etc

Btango, I can’t tell you how many times I have pulled up this post and just drooled over your rifle. 😛 😛
I finally got mine this week from Steve over at WWAG. At these prices I might be able to afford one a year now that I’ve gotten into the higher priced airguns, so I’ll be in hopes of getting a Colibri in .22 cal next year if all goes right.
I know this is a Bullpup page, but do you know others over here that have the Cricket Rifle? Mines putting out around 47.5 FPE slinging 25.4 gr JSB’s at 919 FPS , of course my poor marksmanship doesn’t do the gun justice.
See ya around man!

Congrats man! I’ve got my eye on the Colibri as well 😯 The way I see it this page’s title says “Cricket, Edgun and Bullpups” so posting here about the Cricket rifle qualifies. I don’t know anybody but you owning one…at least on this forum. I saw your targets you posted on the Yellow…I think the groups are good considering the wind you were having. Have you cleaned the barrel?

I could be wrong but I don’t think re-positioning the outer knob will limit the range. I think the rotation right or left will remain the same. All the outer knob does is sit on a sprocket head, I didn’t see any stops in the knob….does this make sense?

Yep, makes sense. I’ll have a look-see when it isn’t cold and raining. If it’s the limit of sprocket travel, it may not focus beyond ~ 100 yds. If so, the Aeon will go on the RWS springer.

Whoa – I have heard this a few times now. We did a resolution test on the latest Hawke SW 8-32×56 SR Pro (mine) and an Aeon 8-32×50 (my buddy’s) about a month ago and at my 42 yard target we can read down to the same line of resolution on a resolution grid so clarity wise they are basically the same. The Hawke was clearly a bit brighter at 32x. Three different folks arrived at the same conclusion. I am always nervous when hear these claims on new cheaper products come out. Just have a test to back them up. I was very interested in finding a lower cost equivalent of equal quality to the latest Hawkes and the Aeon’s come the closest I have seen so far.

Given a choice between buying an Aeon or a Hawke I would buy a Hawke…sorry I didn’t mean to confuse the masses. Aeon’s are reasonably priced but not equivalent to a good Hawke. At 20yds my Aeon shows clearer image than my Hawke…but that’s only at 20yds. I don’t know how they would compare at 50-100yds, my guess is the Hawke would be clearer and brighter as you discovered. Also add to the parallax/focus issue I’m having perhaps this is why the Aeon seems clearer at 20yds. I have a Hawke SW Tac 8.5-25X42 on order form Optics Planet…once I get that I may sell the Eclipse or Aeon, or not.

Sir Ville I hear ya….the two Hawke’s I recently purchased are normally $500 scopes…Optics Planet was selling nearly 1/2 off!! Some say it was a mistake on their end…regardless I paid $297 for the 8-32 and $272 for the 8.5-25. I even cancelled the 8.5-25 as it was backordered and then restored the order and OP was kind enough to give me the sale price 😀

That was a good deal ! The Sidewinder is definitely, positively worth that, any day.
Here in Swedenland the 8-32 costs 4600 SEK = 650$ plus. It falls into “no-mans-land”, pricewise and is to be considered worth its price but … Given my druthers i´d invest some more money and go for a US made (Sightron comes to mind there, as an example) with Japanese glass.
I never meant the SW wasn´t worth its price – what i meant is the AEON is hardly in the same league. If i´m ever in the market for a Chinese scope again the choice would fall between the SW, MTC Taipan or a Falcon. Anything else is totally out of question.

I was speaking of the parallax range; mine’s way off. I’m guessing if the yardage is repositioned, I may run out of ability to get focus beyond 80 yds. Gotta play with it.

There is a reason quality cost money : The high quality materials and craftmanship doesn´t come with rebated price. Period. There is NO way you´ll EVER get two different scopes that are equally good, qualitywise , and one of those is considerably cheaper than the other. And i mean thru a Vendor – not something sold from the trunk of a Car at a shady Parking Lot, since stolen goods are naturally much cheaper. 😉

Normally there´s one occasion, and one occasion only , when really good products are sold cheaper than their value and that´s when a new actor on the Market tries to get the foot in.

AEON is the same old, same old story – Another Chinese Scope brand claiming to be up there with all the quality Scopes. There´s a plethora of them already but still there always seems to be place for one more.

That said – i´m done with Chinese scopes. Done . From now on it´s only Japanese or European for me. :3:

How loud is it compared to the bullpup. What speed were you getting with the jsb 18s?

I don’t have a sound meter to test but I think it’s quieter than the BP. I’ve done some tuning since I posted the last string…I’m avg 915fps with the JSB 18’s

You’ve got a beautiful set of guns there, Brandon and zeroing in on the one-holers quick! If you get a chance, please see how close the focus/range on the Aeon is to reality. I’ve got an 8-32 on my R3M, and it looks like the range is way off and it won’t focus beyond about 100 yds. 😕 Not sure if the knobs can be adjusted in their travel.

Your chrony data is impressive, too. Thanks for posting w/ the pics.

I’m not sure I understand “focus/range on the Aeon is to reality” but here’s my attempt. I don’t feel the parallax adjustment is accurate for shit. When I first got it, I adjusted so that I could see at 20yds(length of my back yard) well I forget what it was telling me I was on yardage but it definitely wasn’t 20yds. So I unscrewed the hex screw and positioned it so it said 20. When I try to adjust the parallax past 30yds it seems like I have to go all the way to infinity to achieve focus. I’m not sure about 100yds or beyond. But I will say at 32mag it is clearer than the Hawke is at 32…so for what I paid for it and what I’m using it for it’s not a huge deal for me. Sorry yours is giving you difficulty….I discovered that the description on WWAG website is/was wrong when it said they will focus down to 10yds….Steve chimed in and said his bad and if any one wanted to return or exchange he would do so. It doesn’t affect me but you may want to give him a call…he’s selling Hawke’s maybe he’ll exchange…he’s a good dude.

The look of that Carbine is starting to grow on me … Is it just me or does it look a lot like a plain wood stocked Steyr ??
Damn it – now i may have to get me a Carbine too, on top of that elusive Hummingbird.

Yeah….you’re right! Perhaps if I removed the shroud it might closely resemble the steyr. I’m sure the neighbors wouldn’t mind 😉
