Testing new design. you can get the parts from Home depot—–>the hardest part was turning down the OD of the rubber tube to get a really tight seal–had to hammer it in, also the foam filter dampen the sound from the HP air rushing to feed the reg when shot is taken and it’s 4″ from the reg. work great and don’t hear the hammer and extended ping traveling through the air tube.

I just got this baby and I am not ready to send it Ernest yet. But it most likely will go to him soon enough. I hear only good stuff.

A lot of things will work…some have used a 4″-6″ length of pvc pipe, with O-rings around it to ensure a tight fit.

Ernest’s de-pinger is a one time application. You pretty much, as always, get what you pay for!

Thanks H()()T I knew I didn’t knew this. I knew you knew more then I knew. I knew this 😀 I knew that fandangled lookin jet engine lookin Mod was more then meets the eye. I knew this some how some way. Some how I knew and I guess I won’t be stuffin an old rolled up silicon tube down my tube. :rofl: Gonna have to make somethin special maybe some ORings on a medicine bottle.

It just takes up a few cc’s of air space in the air chamber, so shot count would not be affected to any noticeable degree.

When the hammer hits the valve, the vibration resonates through the hollow air tube with a “pinnnng” noise…worse in some guns than others. The de-pinger simply breaks up the vibration in the air cylinder and stops the sound.

Pretty simple. The silicone tube also works but has a “lifetime” and needs to be changed. After a year or so, it turns white and becomes brittle. Any sound dampening effect it had is diminished. The newer high tech de-pingers last longer and you don’t have to move the silicone tube up or down the air cylinder to get optimum performance in de-pinging.

I built this de pinger and installed it. Have to say it helped with the ping but have a question. Is it possible that it impedes the air in the chamber to make shots erratic in fps. As if you shoot to fast and it did not have time to fully pressurize the regulator so that shots are inconstant.

My crickets actual serial number is 879. Dont know why I was thinking 900s.
anyway, I seperated the action from tube and barrel today anddddddd…
I have the metal valve stem! The previous owner bought from WWAG, he must’ve had them take care of it. Man, thats a relief.

My .25 barrel on my gun is copper colored. Looks just like a penny. Also has dark brown smudges on it but its perfectly smooth. Ive rubbed the heck out of it with Ballistol and take good care of my guns. My barrel color seems unusual though.. every other cricket pic ive seen has black or blued barrels.. whats up with that you think?
I also have the nice black and white numbered manometer.

I suggest you go to Youtube.com and search for “Ernest Rowe”. He has several detailed videos on how to assemble and disassemble the Cricket, valve, etc…

Good idea to bookmark those because you can just follow along and not go wrong. He goes pretty slow, but is very thorough.

Thank you Hoot.
I’ll grease the depinger and teflon the gauge threads.
I bought my cricket used from someone who originally bought it from WWAG.
Hopefully the previous owner already changed, or had the valve stem changed.
I’ll know tomorrow. My guess is I’ll be having to order one from Steve and track down the info on how to change that as well. He barely ever shot it.
If there are any other home improvements I can make to the cricket while I have it apart, I’m all ears.

A light coat of silicone grease is used on any O-rings involved in installing a “de-pinger” device.

My suggestion is to put silicone grease on the outside of the de-pinging device to help it slide into the air cylinder. Just a very light coat will do. Some of these devices have O-rings, some don’t. Personally, I use the “Mamcrackin” de-pinging method…simply an over sized 2″ length of silicone tubing that is sliced down the side, wrapped around itself, inserted into the air cylinder, allowed to expand, and make contact with the air cylinder walls. It works remarkably well. However, new types have been created and they work also. Some have O-rings. A light coat of silicone grease will get them past the interior threads where the gauge/fill assembly screws into the air cylinder.

I also put a wrap or two of teflon tape on the threads of the fill device before I screw it back into the air cylinder.

PS: You have a plastic head valve stem rod. Order a replacement from Ernest. There is NO comparison in quality between the two.

Silicone which orings Hoot? Are you saying to silicone the orings on the fill adapter/gauge thing before I put it back on after im done sliding the depinger in to place? Thanks

Haggard….I just took off the stock, released the air with the little vent screw at the base of the air cylinder…be careful when doing this and DON’T take it all the way out!!!! Just loosen it and let the air slowly out. The air cylinder will get cold in the process, this is normal. At the very end, a “whoosh…” of air will come out the barrel.

Then, using a dowel rod, or a large round phillips screwdriver, pull up the fill cover and putting the rod through the fill port, unscrew the gauge assembly Counter-Clockwise, Lefty-Lucy.

Then you can measure about half way down the cylinder with whatever you are going to push the de-pinger with, and insert it into the air cylinder.

Silicone lube the O-rings first, then carefully work the O-rings past the threads and then it should be pushed down the air cylinder tube to the desired length.

Afterward, you might put a wrap or two of teflon tape around the gauge assembly threads, and re-install it the same way you took it off. Don’t over tighten it..just take it to the end of the threads so the seam between the cylinder and gauge assembly is a fine line and no threads showing.

You can also just shoot the gun empty…

Go slow and it’s pretty easy…just get all that air out.

PS: Your valve rod head is almost certainly plastic.

Also, my Cricket 25 is in the mid 900s serial #. I don’t have it with me at the moment.
When I attempt my install I’ll check to see which material valve mine has.
