Q:

Cricket stock stripping

Just started the first processes of re-staining my cricket stock….and that’s stripping the varnish off the stock…
Now this is about my 3rd application and I must say…whatever kalibrgun uses to finish their stocks is tuff stuff…
On the first application of the same stripper I had the edgun stock almost all gone of the original finish….so now i see it’s going to be a long process to get this stock to what I want it to look like.

Never tried that. Curious to see the results.

Yea I want to try this little truck with putting vinegar and steel wool into a jar and after 24 hours rub the liquid onto the wood…it’s suppose to darken the wood due to a chemical reaction.

Looks like you’re going to have to tone that stock to get the ebony finish to be even and rich.

Yea the wood doesn’t soak up much dye…only the grain took the color….when I get bored of it ill do something similar to what you just mentioned…

Cant see it either.
Stock is looking good. After your report on the stocks not taking stain I’ve decided to go with a sandstone type finish. I know I’ll be covering that nice wood but if I decided to change it later down the road I can citri strip it in a hour and be back to square one.

I dont know if it’s just me but syn I can’t see your pic.

I removed mine but had to break the spacer to do that I’ll be making a new one out of aluminum.

I´d make it up/down adjustable while at it.

Like this?

Well, ok, it’s not an adjustable spacer but it is a fully adjustable butt assembly.

😀

I like it.

Ok guys after letting the black try and penetrate the wood…the stock wouldn’t soak in as much as I wanted…so I went a different direction….I removed the black but left enough to darken the grain…which gave the stock a old vintage look…let me know what you guys think.

Yep. Not good to ruin the look of that nice stock with a make-do adjustable butt pad. Seen those during the years , not especially pretty sight in most cases.

I’ve considered that but haven’t come up with a design yet that I think I could build with my limited tools that wouldnt look cheap.

The butt pad is glued but I couldn’t get off the white part it’s attached to. That sucker is on there and wasn’t meant to be removed.

A question : How’s the rubber butt pad attached ? Glued ??

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk 2. This POS iPhone sucks though …
