Q:

Cricket stock stripping

Just started the first processes of re-staining my cricket stock….and that’s stripping the varnish off the stock…
Now this is about my 3rd application and I must say…whatever kalibrgun uses to finish their stocks is tuff stuff…
On the first application of the same stripper I had the edgun stock almost all gone of the original finish….so now i see it’s going to be a long process to get this stock to what I want it to look like.

Looking good!

UG, that stock is looking awesome. Thx for pics and update.

Ok here’s an update….the staining isn’t finished yet but I couldn’t help but show the progress and show off my new shroud.

Now in the first pic the stock looks like a dark cherry but that’s the lighting…it’s black!!….

This is what it will resemble when finished….I still have more staining and then the long process of adding the tung oil.

I bought a spare skeleton stock from steve at wwag a few weeks ago and used citristrip, took maybe 1.5 hours to strip completely and then another hour to round all the sharp edges and sand smooth but haven’t made any further progress its just sitting on my work bench. Will be following this thead to see your final product.

Me too! The Skeleton all day !

I am a skeleton stock fan. Ultra light weight and very comfortable. also, the bottom incline is great for a rear bench rest adjustments. There is a reason KalibrGun has the skeleton stock as the most expensive in their brochure.

I think it’s going to look the same as the current BD stock on .177 & .22, only longer at front. Much like me … 😉

I’m very interested in seeing the new design.
I have about 5 coats on the stock and it’s DARK but not black yet…I say about another 2-3 coats and I’ll be we’re I want….I got my carbon fiber NC shroud yesterday and I must say its a nice piece.

He had a stock at the shelf but unfortunately it’s for a 22 cal and thus shorter. It wasn’t plain though but had the factory lacquer on. Was it a right kind i’ve bought it and done the stripping little by little. He says he’ll get a few spare stocks in that “new” design for .25’s , the Bulldog model. Maybe i’ll have one of those instead. Naaaa, i like the Skeleton better.

Sent from a Tab my wife lured me to buy … If your Aunt has a pair of hairy balls does that make “her” your Uncle ?

No inside connection but a great dealer contact, the Finnish Kalibrgun importer. He has just fixed me a “spare” reg that he has set to 130 bar with a pressure tester and also marked it from 110 bar to 150 bar in 10 bar increments. I’m sure he can find me a bare bone ( wood ) stock if i ask him nicely.

Steve seems to be able to place custom orders regularly at Wild West.

I guess you have the inside connections with kalibrgun…maybe that’s why I’m getting a sweater from you….

I don’t know if it’s doable, to buy an unfinished stock, but i’ll try. And succeed .. 😉

I wish I know I could do that….I would have ordered the longer stock unfinished.

No doubt it will. Now i’m having second thoughts about the stripping though. Maybe i just order an unfinished stock ..
