Sooo, you like singel shot? Why??
I have owned and shot them all, I can say without any hesitation that the rear bolt design of the matador is hands down my favourite action and also what sold me on the Edgun over other bullpups all those years ago. I am still a little gutted that the single shot is now only offered in .30cal though the mutishot does nothing for me at all.
When I first ordered my Matador R3 ( the first of them, singe shot steel breech) I actually wanted a R2.5 but Ed had just stopped making them.
I had also placed an order with the other Russian maker for a Hooligun ( also bolt action back then) but by the time they could fill tat order they had relocated to CZ and now making the new model Kalibrgun Cricket.. on seeing the new side lever/multishot breech I cancelled my order. The Hooligun was a much better PCP than the Cricket IMO.
I disagree there Keyser, the Edgun hammer is one of its best design features.. the valve is just too thin for the higher reg pressures on the .25 and .30cals. It has too much flex from the opposing pressures which is causing the bending and breakages.. 3 or 4mm stems are the answer.
The early Matador R1 and R2’s actually had inline hammers and even though they were only .22cals they came with the signature PING and bad hammer bounce (air wastage) associated with that design.. it would be far worse in a .25 or 30cal. The current hammer design is also better for trigger mechanics for a better feel and ease of adjustment.

A couple of questions re: R3M “Improvements” : What is needed to change out the new breech o ring design? is there a factory tool to fit the four holes in the at brass nut or will a couple of steel pins fit in deep enough to rotate it by hand?
You say the brass o ring seal surface of the valve exhaust and forward breech transfer port have been improved, what has actually been done?
I am definitely a fan of the short Matador, I was in two minds when I bought my first .22 Matador whether to go short or std but if the short had have been available in .25 at the time it would have been an easy decision.

Bolt actions are good and proven but on a bullpub design they oblige you to change shooting position completely at each shot and this is not good IMHO (or at least can be improved)
+1 and this time over the counter and not under the counter for only a few selected supporters :whistle:
And Keyser, you speak about offset moderator but in the pictures there is no offset if I’m not mistaken.
Honestly I’ve never seen a rifle/bullpup that in the short version and in the same power setting is as quite as the long version and this would be really an improvement IMHO.
Keyser, is it possible to fit the upgraded breech internals into older R3M’s? And are those parts for sale, as well as the plastic mags?
I feel they are the same in loudness between the short and standard and long. The baffles are all the same regardless what model you choose. The slight difference is imperceptible to my ear. I honestly really love the offset. To me this is a game changer in terms of the .25 and .22. I never considered the Matador .22 a backyard gun until I got the offset for it. The two most quiet bullpups I have owned were the Mutant and now the .22 Matador with the offset. My friends believe the Matador is more quiet than the Mutant.
That photo I took (dead squirrels) was from an occupied area full of people. I was shooting the .25 less than 50 yards away from people were hanging out. My friend was watching for Libtards (modern social justice warriors self-hating Nazi liberals). Not one person even looked my direction while shooting the .25 equipped with the offset.
No it still has the same valve.
I still like the rear bolt design. No extra linkage, everything self contained. I am attracted to a more simple system. The Vulcan is hard to cycle in my opinion. If Ed changes to a side bolt I hope he uses the Fortner action
Keyser, do these shorties have 3mm valve stems?
Keyser is right, probably the angle of the hammer hitting the valve is the first reason for bending the valve rod.
Maybe making it possible to change the regulator setting from externally and a gauge to read the regulator’s pressure would also be a nice improvement (like somebody did for the Cricket).
The bolt design is getting obsolete but probably the R4 or R4M will have this improvement already (don’t recall the pictures).
A removable CF air cylinder could help to reduce weight and allow better autonomy.
Let’s ask the tuners what they would like to improve internally.
Shooter, it also fits 4 of the old style magazines. Ed enlarged the space under the rail.
Or maybe you are a dealer’s advocate? Identify yourself.
Keyser, what improvement was made to accomodate 4 magazines under the rail? Proper indentation placement or maybe smaller magazines?

For the very same reasons Keyser quoted .. more linkages a crap to go wrong.. more chances to damage pellets etc.. mags to drop and lose.
Oh and I almost forgot the most impotant reason …
You only need 1 shot!
The Edgun company motto is ” ONE SHOT ONE TARGET”
I have never to date missed a chance of multiple kills due to the inabillity to load another pellet fast enough. Its more about target selection and understaning your game.
The R3M was a step in the wrong direction IMO as with many changes Ed made to the matador because of customer wants.
