EDgun .25 vs Pigeons
So in my quest to make the EDgun perfect I decided to try something new. I followed some tuning advice from a bro in Lebanon ( I can’t tell the tune, I promised to keep it a secret). I shoot pigeons a lot on dairy farms and often times it seems like the pellet blows through the bird and it wounds the bird. Head shots are not a real option because I am shooting between 75-120 yards. I am there to help the farmer get rid of pigeons so for the sake of consistency I go for body shots. The tune took my 930 FPS .25 Maddy down to 890 FPS. The crazy thing is I get 7 magazines on regulator with a 3-5 foot per second ES. I found the lower speed killed the pigeons with a wider margin of error. The pellet is very stable.
Has anyone else noticed that slowing the .25 down a little seems to allow the pellet to transfer more energy into the bird/critter?
Here’s a little sample from my day.

Der Heckenschütze, you’re the man!

I was just wondering why looking for accuracy from a shaky tripod, sounds weird to me (IMHO).
But as you said, as long as you are satisfied.
Try not to deviate your understandings..
The accuracy testings were made on different scales, one of them on a tripod….
Hope it’s clear enough 😉
Look at things further…
Sorry Der Heckenschütze I just missed the different scales, only the “shaky tripod” catched my eye.
I’m sure accuracy was great in all scales :8:

I agree, although I do not have the equipment to truly test accuracy it is Strange to tune a gun for accuracy and not test it properly with good rests
I believe there is some misunderstanding going on here ….

Just a common sense question…. Is it the challenge or no money left for a good tripod?
Shooting on a Tripod after Fine Tuning is the Pure Challenge, 1st for my targeting skills and 2nd the gun ability in such conditions.
Imagine if i was shooting on stable bench…. what will be the result ?? A tighter group of 7.80mm maybe ?? :biggrinn:
Ah!! btw if you need to open or grow your business i can be your Investor…
Cheers
Personally for the Pure Challenge I shot off hand :8:
Stable bench only for best performance and never “shaky something” if not just plinking.
And thanks but no place for investors 😀 .
Your challenge do it as u wish… as long you’re satisfied with the results….
You knocked, i opened
9 shots
EDgun Pellets 44grs
Velocity 803-807fps and a Total of 57 Reg shots 😉
May I ask why people is doing a lot of tuning and then shot from a shaky tripod when looking for good accuracy?

That’s what I figured. I had this harebrained idea that I would turn my reg up to 135 BAR in case I needed/wanted extra power. But now, I am obsessing over accuracy and speed is not as important. I used a reg tester and degasser from a friend. I’m hoping that he’ll let me borrow it again. I’ll set the reg at 125 BAR and then tune from there, though I know very little about tuning other than adjusting hammer spring tension. Anyway, thanks for the reply.
As an afterthought, I remember shooting plenty of squirrels with a 25 Marauder set to shoot the 25 gr JSB’s at an average of 860 fps. The accuracy of that Marauder was very very good. Fairly consistent 1.25 inch groups at 100 yards. The accuracy of my Edgun needs working on. I’ll start with a barrel cleaning and then turning the speed down. Trouble is, when I turn the speed down, my Extreme Spread goes up to 20fps.I need a good project for the afternoon.

Kevin if you are hand pumping the Maddy I would definitely recommend turning the speed down. I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised at the shot count increase. I do think that a setting of 135 is too high for a HST setting that will push the king at 880. I would recommend 125 bar to a Max of 130.
Well done!!! My R3M .25 cal standard is shooting at 933 fps ave. I have been thinking about turning the power down. I might just try using the spring tensioner and leave the regulator alone. I handpump and it takes a it of time to pump from empty after emptying the tube to access the reg. My reg is set at 135 BAR. When I set it, back last summer, I thought that I was gonna want a bit more power. But my power-hunger is wearing down. Anyway, great pic and great shooting!!!
Dear Kaiser Brian,
no intention to make anything about this and I also said that personally I didn’t see/feel anything wrong.
You are now officially in business and certainly you need to make your business running and it is good you have friends like der heckenschütze to help you (IMHO).
What I would like to say though is even if the facts are straight, sometimes the timing and the way of doing them could make them appear wrong but certainly everbody has its own way of seeing things (IMHO).
Even if it might sound weird, I join those welcoming you in the edgun business and I really appreciate “the technician”, while some more openness and frankness on your “edgun dealer intentions” would have made clearer your reviews and positions.
May I ask you, when you were supporting and justifying the infamous “Edgun Lelya Hold-Up” for example, did you express your opinions like a regular customer or like a future Edgun ally?
Just for the record Kim Kardashian I don’t like tuning guns. My expectations are often too high because of this I don’t do it that often. Ernest has been sending me more work than I can handle already. My post was to publicly acknowledge der heckenschütze help to me. You’re making this more than it is as usual.

I have just bought a tin of heavies to try out.
As it stands my matador is shooting kings at 927 fts. I out a couple of heavies through it and they were shooting at 805fts.
I haven’t done any groups with them yet or seen what drop they have compared with the Kings.
What finding did you have?
Cheers
