The ultimate sparrow slayer! I love that picture on the guy in Indiana who shot all of the coyotes with his Sam Yang .357.

OG has a good point AS do Jettagirl. FX is overrated and in US ridiculously overpriced gun. The reg doesn´t hold a Candle to neither EG nor Cricket counterpart and regulated none of the FX´s has comparable power. The problem with EdGun is the waiting game involved and the other problems.
Sadly there´s no .30 cal Cricket and the .35 cal development has all but gone underground = no word on it. The rumor i heard was they´ll skip it in favor for a .30 cal but that may be old wife´s tale. Who knows.

I think those in a market for a .30 cal Bullpup are between a rock and a hard place. BTW – how´s them Evanix´s ?? Do they make a .30 cal BP worth buying ??

.30 ? Who needs a stinking .30

.357 Baby 🙂 🙂 🙂

Paid marketing on YF not to mention the controlled media. On MSNBC Obama is good.

Slayer – from reading many hundreds posts of the experiences of others and having experiences with AOA (multiple PCPs from them) including the Air Ranger I bought and had a few issues with I can comfortably say that the work required on my Matadors and time waiting for things to be able to shoot and the time waiting for shipments, parts, and AOA to get to repairs is not all that different. Also, there are several highly qualified guys like Ernest that do a better and much faster job than AOA ever could on Crickets or Matadors if you don’t want to ever take it apart. While we see some of the guys using lathes and machining things and struggling to figure them out with the Matadors, in reality the Matadors and Cricket are very easy to work on occasionally for basic things including tuning. FX not so much if at all. A lot of folks on here are really interested in the modifying end of the hobby rather than hard core shooting like you and me and guns like the Matadors and Crickets and AF guns for that matter really lend themselves to some of that. I don’t mind taking them apart occasionally and initially tuning them and setting the triggers up but that is about it. Everyone I know personally here in my area that has purchased an FX product except for one guy with an FX Royale soon wanted to sell them – especially the recent Bobcat buyers. I have never owned one because of that and the general looks, length, and weight of some of their products I thought I might be interested in. I have considered that 30 Bobcat as well many times. Its way too big, bulky, and heavy for me. That’s why I have the Standard Matador 30 which is exactly the opposite of that. Just my 2 cents.

oldgoat first of all I have been on here a while and respect your opinion and experience.
I am leaning hard to Bobcat .30 because they are here, can be fixed ta A O A and the accuracy reports are great.
I use a guppy tank 4500 psi when in field so a few more shots does nothing for me. I never try to tune my air guns much over 850 fps because in my experience they shoot great in that range. again you have much mmore experience than me and I am not questioning you just giving my side if thats what you call it?
I spoke to A O A who i have purchased several airguns from and been very happy. I have the price and accessories picked out just waiting for cash. lol
They tuned and Shot my Daystate Air Ranger exactly how I asked them too. I just cannot work on maybes, maybe in a year I get one maybe i get parts to fix it, maybe i know how to fix it. I think the Edgun is a great gun (owned the .25)
I just do not want something with so little support. I think a lot of guys on here will figure it out fix anything that goes wrong.
I do not want to be an airgunsmith. I am a shooter! lol

OG, did you ever get a Wolverine to try the .257 route with? Now that I have the Edgun .30 long, I have a Wolverine that is a lot less likely to get used and was toying with the idea of doing something different with it.

I generally agree w/ the comments above about the two .30s, but there was a pretty impressive 50yard shooting session posted over on the Yellow, so I wouldn’t rule out the Bobcat entirely. But I think I would want to handle one myself before seriously considering buying one.

OldGoat:

I am half way down the .257 TJ’s and cast slugs program myself, I’d still like to talk to you about some related questions if you get a chance.

Doug Doty…

OK, color me biased but; you asked!

I had a Boss; the key word here is HAD!

Mine was one of the first 5 that AOA got in. It would not shoot the 30 cal JSB 44.6 grain pellets over 870 fps, no matter what I tried tuning wise and I tried a lot of things! I finally got it to shoot over 900 fps by removing the regulator, adding the tuning tricks and just shooting off of the bottle pressure.

I could get it into the 950 fps range but, the shot string had a huge bell curve and I only got around 29 useable shots from the 500 cc bottle. At 875 fps, I got around 35 regulated shots. I would have lost a couple regulated shots IF, I could have tuned it to shot at 885 fps.

I wasn’t really concerned about the speeds that the BOSS shot the JSBs, I bought the gun with the intensions of putting a TJs .257” barrel on it and shooting my cast 50 grain bullets out of it. I just could never get the speeds needed out of it for me to mess with it anymore. My 30 cal R3 long has plenty of “head room” and I will see how it does with the TJs .257 barrel and my cast bullets.

IIRC, the Boss was 57” long, I haven’t measured my 30 cal R3 Matador long but, I think that it is around 37”-38” long at the most.

One of the other 30 cal R3 long owners will soon post what the OA length of the 30 cal long is.

My Matador came set up to shoot the 30 cal JSB 44.6 grain pellets at 945 fps and I got around 34 regulated shots from the 388 cc air tube at that speed. There is no doubt that I could turn the reg and HST up and get the 44.6 grain JSBs into the 1,000-1050 fps range if I wanted it to shoot that fast. The regulated shot count would really suffer at those speeds. A 44.6 grain 30 cal JSB pellet at 1,050 fps would be bad medicine on a coyote!

I turned my 30 cal down to 885 fps, I haven’t had the time to check the regulated shot count, I think that I will be close to 40 regulated shots at 885.

In no way do I regret selling the Boss, even thought I lost $800 when I finally found somebody that would buy it! I have had my 22 cal FX Royale up for sale at a $1000 loss and I haven’t had any takers.

The 30 cal R3 long is at least 10”-12” shorter, is lighter, gets more regulated shots from a 112 cc smaller air tube and is far easier to carry and hunt with.

The fit, finish and build quality of the Matador is better than the BOSS, at least in my opinion. Even shooting the 44.6 grain JSBs at 945 fps, the Matador was quieter than my BOSS ever was when it was shooting at 870 fps. Stock, the Boss had a better trigger than my 30 cal R3, a little adjusting and tuning got the R3’s trigger at least as good as the Boss’s trigger.

If you buy a Bob Cat 30 cal, you will need to buy the additional 6” long shroud extension and also the air tube extension to get the gun anywhere near as quiet with a shot count anywhere near the 30 cal R3 long. The modified Bob Cat will then be way longer and far more ugly than a 30 cal R3 long.

The only problem you are going to have buying a 30 cal R3 long is; Ed only sent 10 of them to the US and it is currently uncertain if he will build and ship any more here. The only way that you could currently buy one is to buy one of the 10 that us lucky guys bought.

Mine isn’t for sale!

I’m sorry if it sounds like I don’t have much/if anything good to say about the BOSS! HEY WAIT: I don’t have anything good to say about the BOSS that I HAD!

You won’t hear many people here say too much of anything good about FX products.

You need to go to the Yellow if you want to read glowing reports on FX air guns.

Friends don’t let friends buy FX air guns!

Well for 1 the fx is available for you to purchase NOW…
If you choose the edgun get ready for a wait and hope you don’t
Get one with any issues or your only option is return it for a full refund….that is if you didn’t do any modding
To the gun itself.

I might not like the look of the fx so much but it’s tempting with its good review and videos….I’d be willing to try one out…
