Q:

Edgun Leshiy .25cal super tune

Ive spent a bit of time on my new Leshiy this week and have refined it to my liking..
While the 350mm barrels and shroud extensions are available for higher velocities I wanted to keep mine compact and light as it was designed to be.. this comes with the compromise of the shorter 250mm barrel which produces lower velocities or less shot count.

This is the typical performance you can expect from a .25cal Leshiy with 25.4gr kings:

250mm barrel: 12-13 shots at 760fps
350mm barrel kit: 12-13 shots at 810fps

Thats not bad but I devised a plan to get a little more from mine without the long extension and also make it quieter than the std Leshiy…

25.4gr JSB kings get 18 shots at 800fps 36ftlbs!

Want more speed? 6 shots at 925fps 48lbs

Want more shots? 25 shots at 700fps

Want 12ftlbs? 39 shots at 460fps 11.9fps

Want a better trigger with a predictable break? … Yea me too… give me some more time on that one…

The same tune in a .22 or .177cal will be just as impressive..
All this performance in this short little setup..

I will explain the mods in a tuning video soon…

I have been getting loads of emails from guys wanting help fitting the huma reg so I have made a quick vid to demonstrate.

I’m tempted to put black kryptek ‘typhoon’ hydrographic on grip and trigger guard of mine…

Picked mine up today
It’s a plastic new edition

Thanks Buddy… and thanks again for my new toy.. arrived in NZ last week 🙂

Cheers guys… I would say just mildly moddified..

Handsome combo!

That’s one heavily modified Leshiy lol. Love the dark walnut grip

Extended walnut grip finished..

I had a bit of a testing session today by making various length valve spring spacers to fit on the valve and put more tension on the valve return spring.
Ed has added this to all the new Leshiys to get the best efficiency at 130bar on his reg but after some chrony work I have forud even the Huma reg set at 110 bar responds well to a little more valve spring tension.

I started by making a 15mm long spacer from delrin on the lathe and found it needed 3 more clicks on the HST to get my speed back up to the 800fps it did without the spacer and the shot string was a little tighter and it got one more shot on the string.

Shortening it 1mm at a time and re testing with my previous HST setting I found that a spacer at 8mm long gave me the same 800fps av but 2 extra usable shot in the string. What this means is that even with the longer 310mm barrel the valve dwell time was too long meaning the valve was staying open too long dumping and wasting more air than the pellet needed to get the 800fps. The stronger compressed valve spring now shuts the valve sooner and possibly reduces hammer bounce that may have contributed to wasted air.

So my current tune sits at 108bar on the Huma reg, a 250bar fill gets 20 shots at 800fps av with the 310mm BSA barrel.

That looks good! Well done buddy!

That’s some nice wood, should look awesome.

Wish I had the skills to make my own.

My ” Super tune” continues with the addition of a black walnut grip.

While the std plastic grip is usable I decided to make one a little prettier and more comfortable.
Now although I could have got wild and made a fancy target grip or something I wanted to keep the exact Edgun ambidextrous “hunting” shape but Im adding 10mm to the bottom of it to fit my hand better.

Those who know me know how much I hate wood work and putting dust all through
my tools and workshop but this one is a relatively simple and fast job.

I drew around the old grip then hand cut it just outside the lines before squaring everything up on the linisher fitted with an 80 grit belt and disk.
The inletting was fairly basic and only took about 10 minutes in the mill with a 12mm and 8mm cutter.

A few more radius cuts front and back and again on the linisher to get it down to the outline size.

With a bit of careful shaping it should soon look just like the plastic one

Dear Wingman,

That would indeed be best. He will contact you in due course.

Thanks,

Hans

Dear Wingman thanks for the good advice.
But how would I go about installing a 320 mm barrel .25 in my Leshiy since that combination has proven to combine power so well with “stamina” (when using the Huma regulator).
Finally, you mentioned something about widening the beginning of the barrel to place the pellets more precisely.
If I had some measurements or drawings, I could ask my gunsmith to perform this alteration. He is not an airgun specialist by any means, but is one of the few “Meister Büchsenmacher’s (master gunsmith)” in the Netherlands well experienced with working on barrels.

Best to have your “Meister Büchsenmacher” contact me directly if he needs help..
